Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

It's too bad the stream shopped showing this game. There was a brief window of people actually taking an honest look at the thing and saying it looked pretty fun, now we're just back to the drive-bys.

Hopefully Nintendo uploads bits of their stream before too long.

The way I see it is that, why would Nintendo announce a spin-off of a game that they know people have been clamoring for unless they are developing one already.
They also said they won't talk about the NX, so you connect the dots.

Aren't you guys watching Treehouse!? This looks fun as hell.

Yes, and it still looks shallow as hell compared to the hundreds of other coop games there are out there.

It's not Monster Hunter meets Metroid, it's not Warframe/Destiny meets Metroid, it's a cheap as hell cash in on the Metroid name.

This is the equivalent of publishers digging up some beloved IP from the past just to make some f2p mobile game that has nothing to do with the franchise. ,,Could be fun'' doesn't cut it. Especially since it really doesn't look fun. The Blaster Ball section of the NWC looked like some random, low-tier indie title.

It can be fun. That doesn't change why people are disappointed.

Bomberman Act Zero: Metroid Edition

Come on, were you even around for half of those games being announced? The response to ALBW was the exact opposite of that from most people.

Er, yes, yes I was around. I've been gaming since the Atari days.

oh shut the fuck up

nobody ever said that shit
Plenty of people did. There was a vast number of optimistic people, but there was definitely a large number of skeptics for every last single Zelda iterations, questioning everything from art direction to combat to control to multiplayer to platform.

And because some people were once wrong in their criticisms of a game pre-release, all criticisms of games pre-release must be wrong?

People were criticising Destiny's amount of content and story structure prerelease, and they ended up being pretty correct, even though blind optimists shot them down for having a critical opinion prerelease. Therefore I guess all prerelease optimism must be wrong?

Where was this community of people that ravaged the previews of Zelda II? Where were they, exactly?

Where was the community of gamers that were disgusted with the previews of Link's Awakening because it was in monochrome?

As I said before, citation needed.

Metroid fans, welcome to the Zelda cycle.

"Zelda 2 isn't like Zelda 1? It'll never work!"
"Link's Awakening is a black & white Gameboy game? It'll never work!"
"Ocarina of Time is jumping to 3D? But Zelda is a top-down perspective game! Won't work!"
"Majora's Mask has a time limit? That won't work!"
"Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons have a convoluted password system? That's so stupid."
"Wind Waker's art style is for babies! Death of the series!"
"Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks only use the stylus? That'll never work!"
"Multiplayer Zelda? Four Swords will be a disaster!"
"Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword use motion controls? That'll never work!"
"A Link Between Worlds is just retreading the old game and is non-linear? Bad decision!"
"Hyrule Warriors? What's this Dynasty Warriors knock-off. Horrible!"

Is this the Metroid game I wanted? No.
... But I'm going to give it a try and I may end up LOVING it.

I've been following Zelda for a long time and I never heard these complaints before for most of the games. People were not complaining about OoT being in 3D, people were not complaining about multiplayer Zelda, people were not complaining about the Oracles' password system.

Metroid Prime without the awesome level design, OST and ambientation, you know the things people loved about the game, not because it was a subpar fps.

I'm not going to pretend this game is going to match Metroid Prime in quality, but you don't know that this game doesn't have those things.

What's not ambitious about a Metroid game that doesn't star Samus, with a chibi artstyle, Monster Hunter style missions and co-op? Sounds like a pretty big gamble to me.

It's made by Next Level Games, trusted developers of mid-tier Nintendo games. I have no doubt in my mind this will match the quality of Strikers, Luigi's Mansion and Punch Out.

Internet didn't really exist then brah.

Lol at expecting Destiny meets Metroid for the 3DS.

Game looks fun. It's doomed to get hated on sadly. Nintendo needs to announce Metroid Prime NX before this comes out in order to calm people down.

If (mega if) this can be tweaked and improved into a Metroid Monster Hunter, it'll be neat. I'd be interested in that.

Here's hoping there can be some real game journalism done and dig into this thing.

Lol at putting a game that focuses on online multiplayer on a portable system, if you're going to bring the console it's on into the conversation.

People keep saying this but it makes no sense. How is it like MH rather than simply coop game?

I think it was the use of consumables and the fact that the ice beast mission was centralized around controlling an AI monstrosity via aggro.

The space pirate one looked more like normal multiplayer metroid prime

I'm not gonna lie, now that the dust has settled a bit this game seems like it could be really cool

The Treehouse segment looked pretty good.

I'm not really going to call it the death knell of the Metroid series. It's a cute idea that I can't get mad about at all, and NLG has done good in the past. I didn't expect Metroid going in and it's a little too late for that to happen on the Wii U.

Most likely, a new Metroid ends up being an NX ordeal.

I really like Next Level Games, but I hope this isn't the only thing they've been working on since Luigi's Mansion.

They've never really done more than one project at a time. These are games they made;

Super Mario Strikers - GCN - 2005
Mario Strikers: Charged - Wii - 2007
Punch-Out!! - Wii - 2009
Luigi's Mansion 2 - 3DS - 2013 (!)
This Wierd Thing - 3DS - 2016

Note that until LM2, they only needed 2 years to pump out great games, but needed more time for Dark Moon, and it showed. Before Dark Moon, they were thinking about making a new 2.5D Metroid game for 3DS, but Nintendo made them cancel it in favor of Dark Moon. Instead of going back to doing that, which bad Samus design or not, fans would have loved it, they go on and make this.

Digging up the odd (and unpopular in cases) negative opinion on games that turned out good doesn't invalidate criticism directed at this though. What about franchises that changed their direction entirely and ended up just as poor as they were perceived to be, like Shadow the Hedgehog or Bomberman Act Zero?

It's not like I want to be disappointed by this game, and it could be fun all the same. But it looks way too far from what I want in Metroid to be accepted as a new entry in the franchise.

I guess I just don't see the point in making a Metroid game like this, especially with the cutesy art style, when we've all been slobbering for a new Prime/Super Metroid/Fusion since Other M.

it may be fun...

but i was disappointed with this annoucement

was hoping for a nes/snes traditonal side scrolling maze adventure that was a direct sequel to super metriod/fusion as link between worlds was to LTTP.

i was waiting for my special limited edition metroid n3ds to pre-order right after E3.

Why do you omit their non-Nintendo titles? From a LinkedIn leak we know that they work on a WiiU title, which may or not be moved to NX.

Geez, so many skeptics that there were skeptics of nearly every Zelda game. I'm gonna have to pull out the Internet Archive Machine and my old copies of GamePro, EGM, Nintendo Power, and Computer and Video Games magazines.

But, citations requests, citations deserve to be given. ... I just gotta track them all down.

All that notwithstanding, the gameplay I have seen of this game looks fun... but I'm one of those nutcases that enjoyed Prime Hunters and Pinball, so what do I know.

People keep saying this but it makes no sense. How is it like MH rather than simply coop game?

There's a video of gameplay posted a couple of posts before mine where they show a team of 4 use different weapons/ load outs to work together and capture a beast. Now, I don't know if that leads to getting better gear, but the goal of hunting monsters/ space pirates or whatever as a team feels very similar to monster hunter.

We don't really know enough about it now to judge whether the comparison is even more accurate, but that was my first impression when watching the gameplay video.

---

I also think it strange that the video got so many dislikes. Doing something new doesn't mean Nintendo is trying to pee in your food. the outrage is actually hilarious.
