Valve didn't accepted PC Gamer's invite to PC Gamer Show

From the article:

This is what I'm talking about. Merely just saying Half-Life doesn't do anything. They haven't been clear about the game at all, just stringing people along with a good chance of false hope for those who want closure. It's something to see him say "Yeah, I get it" when he talks about the possibility of missing out on good experiences that won't happen again, but doesn't seem to relate it to what Valve fans want to know about. And not showing up to PC events like E3 when they're clearly one of the biggest dogs in the industry kind of seems like a slap in the face, especially when they have a lot of announced shit to show off anyways like the Steam Controller, Steam Boxes, the Steam Link, VR tech, etc.

You really consider it a slap in the face? It's not like they didn't go to a friend's funeral or something.

Can't blame them, especially after the megatons yesterday, the expectancy for a HL3 announcement would have been through the roof.

GAF: "Valve doesn't care about games anymore"

Dennis: "You could say........the valve has been closed..............YEEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!"

I imagine it like this

Nvidia: Thanks for linux driver and porting games to android for shield, deposited 10 million into your account
Gabe: I got a invite to PC gaming show
Nvidia: Give u 100bucks if u dont go
Gabe: ....
Nvidia: 100bucks more if u add gameworks to Half-life3, tessellate headcrabs 100,000 times
Gabe: $$$$

Look back at this E3, when long-awaited announcements happened. Things like Fallout 4, FF7 Remake, The Last Guardian and Shenmue III. Nevermind that these were megatons, what I want to point out is a lot of fans of these games waited so many years for these things just to be acknowledged, and look at the reactions to them. Look on the various threads here, on Twitter or YouTube, these titles mean a lot to people and it's a very emotional roller coaster for them to be on, and it doesn't have to be this way. Valve doesn't have to string Half-Life fans tortuously like this. Even if Valve's focus is just the F2P games they want to pump out and the continued growth of Steam as a platform, they can help those HL fans start to feel closure. Not knowing what's gonna happen, for years on end, isn't fair to anyone.

As I've said, I'm not a Half-Life fan, but my personal disappointment stems from them doing very little to seem to care about the millions of players on their platform with so little communication. Maybe it's because I'm used to having communication from figureheads in the PSN and XBL communities on a somewhat often basis, even if it's just to talk about the game releases of the week or community events. Maybe my own expectations should be lowered when it comes to Valve, but I never considered myself to be a greedy person.

Within reason, I'd just like a titan of a company like them, that I do business with, to be more involved in the community in regards as a platform. Not just updates for CS:GO or DOTA 2, but for the millions of others who use the service not just for their biggest cash grabs. They couldn't come to E3 and talk about all of their new hardware? Sure, I can pre-order the stuff and about a half a year later get it, but I would've figured they'd be enthusiastic to show of the fruits of their labor.

How am I supposed to feel confident about this stuff? Are they just saving it for their own show? Are they really going to let all of the VR competitors demo their stuff first for the public? Microsoft is already demoing their $150 controller and Sony their Morpheus on the E3 floor. I don't remember if Hololens has a demo booth at E3, but they at least showed it off and talked about it. With MS and Sony having more indie game showcases, I also wonder about the status of Steam Greenlight, which seems to have been in limbo for months now.

I apologize if I appear to be rambling. I have nothing further to contribute to the topic.

please stop rambling, calm down and realize that valve still makes games.

why will Nvidia tell/pay Valve to not go? this show don't hurt Nvidia products at all. and Valve getting money for Gameworks feature wat

People love to think that Nvidia is a big evil monster they should hate but this make absolutely no sense

I honestly expected Left 4 Dead 3 during the "PC" event until I saw no valve.

After how painful it was to watch, I'm glad they weren't there.

Valve seems way closer with NVidia, it's understandable. Not to mention, they're big enough, and privately owned, so they don't need to present at a conference. They have much more freedom than most studios, and they like to exercise it by doing passion projects. That being said, they've made it clear that they're not passionate about Half-Life anymore.

uh even if there were no megatons dropped, they still wouldn't have appeared. You're making it sound like the whole thing was put together in one day. While it didn't have the highest of production values or anything, it still takes time and planning to coordinate everything.

If it's true that NVIDIA were prevented from being a guest, then that really kind of ruins the image of the event for me, that's quite bad. PC gaming is surely about choice and options, having a PC gaming show that prevents one of those options (even ignoring that they are a hugely important company in PC gaming) from appearing is terrible.

I hope PC Gamer choose a sponsor next year that either won't prevent competitors attending or isn't a company in which has a similar competitive market.

The Vive is the only one of those hardware devices anyone seems to care about and you can't show off VR at a conference.

On the games front, I doubt they have anything to show.

it's shitty but AMD sponsored the event and while I have no idea how much they spent i'm sure it wasn't pocket change so you honestly can't be surprised.

Surprised? Maybe not. But if this is the case, as I said, then I'd rather PC Gamer try and find a sponsor that doesn't do such things for the next one. If you're here to "celebrate" the PC as a platform, then you can't have terms like this - I think it goes against a core principle of what makes the PC as a platform successful.

"Never have a PC Gaming Show and prevent the flag bearer for PC gaming from participating. #pcgamingshow"
If that's how they were going to act on stage I'm glad they didn't get an invite. And nothing stopped them last year to do it before AMD did it this year.

"I blame X for not inviting me to me Y while I could've done X myself" - NVIDIA you sound like a jealous 10 year old neighborhood kid.

Highly doubt that NVIDIA would've invited AMD if they hosted it... something something black plot and kettle.

like I said it's shitty but if the alternative was not having a show at all then i'd still take this over nothing

I think less poorly on the PC Gamer Show after hearing this. It's fucking Valve. The year of Last Guardian, FF7 R & Shenmue 3 and Valve didn't have the decency to announce Half Life 3. Shameful & inconsiderate.

Is this a real opinion? What?

I'd rather have nothing. These announcements would have happened regardless, no one made announcements that wouldn't have happened anyway without this event.

The primary benefit for such an event is to showcase the platform and the community of that platform (e.g. contributors to that platform, developers, hardware makers, etc). If you take that away, it soils the whole thing for me.

Guys, you've just got to accept that Half-Life 3 is never happening. That's it. End of story. We had 2 amazing mainline Half-Life games and that's all we're ever going to get. I accepted this sometime ago and I feel liberated. Join me.

Yo we just got TLG, FFVII remake, and ShenMue 3

never say never.

AMD took a rimshot at Nvidia during the conference, wish we could have seen their reaction lol

I actually wish they went there just to troll everyone.

"We know the fans have been waiting for it and it has been a long time coming. But today on this stage we are proud to reveal the next iteration of what you love us for. And here is the exclusive trailer" The trailer plays and shows clips from half life 1 and 2, then at the end the screen goes dark and the words: "the.... brand.... new..... steam controller in white" show up.

Judging from the few cringe worthy posts in this thread, I dont know whats worse, them declining or them deliberately trolling.
