Look back at this E3, when long-awaited announcements happened. Things like Fallout 4, FF7 Remake, The Last Guardian and Shenmue III. Nevermind that these were megatons, what I want to point out is a lot of fans of these games waited so many years for these things just to be acknowledged, and look at the reactions to them. Look on the various threads here, on Twitter or YouTube, these titles mean a lot to people and it's a very emotional roller coaster for them to be on, and it doesn't have to be this way. Valve doesn't have to string Half-Life fans tortuously like this. Even if Valve's focus is just the F2P games they want to pump out and the continued growth of Steam as a platform, they can help those HL fans start to feel closure. Not knowing what's gonna happen, for years on end, isn't fair to anyone.
As I've said, I'm not a Half-Life fan, but my personal disappointment stems from them doing very little to seem to care about the millions of players on their platform with so little communication. Maybe it's because I'm used to having communication from figureheads in the PSN and XBL communities on a somewhat often basis, even if it's just to talk about the game releases of the week or community events. Maybe my own expectations should be lowered when it comes to Valve, but I never considered myself to be a greedy person.
Within reason, I'd just like a titan of a company like them, that I do business with, to be more involved in the community in regards as a platform. Not just updates for CS:GO or DOTA 2, but for the millions of others who use the service not just for their biggest cash grabs. They couldn't come to E3 and talk about all of their new hardware? Sure, I can pre-order the stuff and about a half a year later get it, but I would've figured they'd be enthusiastic to show of the fruits of their labor.
How am I supposed to feel confident about this stuff? Are they just saving it for their own show? Are they really going to let all of the VR competitors demo their stuff first for the public? Microsoft is already demoing their $150 controller and Sony their Morpheus on the E3 floor. I don't remember if Hololens has a demo booth at E3, but they at least showed it off and talked about it. With MS and Sony having more indie game showcases, I also wonder about the status of Steam Greenlight, which seems to have been in limbo for months now.
I apologize if I appear to be rambling. I have nothing further to contribute to the topic.
