Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

*Detective mode engaged* Double spaces between sentences. Strange. Enhance.

Rockstar instead of Rocksteady. That's it. Alfred, this poster is on mobile. Hacking into Gotham cellular towers to track his location.

An interesting theory, but I'm afraid you've confused simple idiosyncrasy and a malapropism for things they aren't. When you hear hoofbeats, Batman, think horses.

Do we know what the difference actually is between the two endings? Often, true ending means that there is like 10 seconds of extra video teasing DLC/ a sequel. That wouldn't effect the story at all.
A fair point, people made it sound like it's the "real" ending which made it sounds important, maybe they are exaggerating.

Gamespot wtf? That's an outlier if I've ever seen one.

Whoooo lets do this baby. Got the game for free with my GPU.

Father, I've failed you.

The trophy set's out, right? Is there one for getting all the trophies? What about a "highest difficulty" one? If I can do it without playing twice, I'll probably go for the Platinum. Summer break!

I'd like to read more reviews to get perspective on the Batmobile, but I'm scared as fuck about getting spoiled :l

Haven't looked at the trophies, but the game is confirmed to have NG+ which will almost certainly have a trophy attached to it. It did in City.

The Bat mobile parts looked like shit every single time they demoed them and, shock and awe, they're shit.

Unbelievable they let their main new selling point turn out so terrible.

Yeah, people have been saying the batmobile sucked since day fucking one. Disappointing that they never figured it out. They should have just had a section or two where you used it instead of making it the big drawing point for the whole game.

Still can't wait for Tuesday. Awesome reviews all around.

I don't want to be forced to race. I'm not a big fan of racing and I'm not very good at it. As long as the batmobile is just a vehicle of destruction and mayhem, I'm fine with it. I hope they can somehow magically patch in "fun" to the batmobile if its terrible all around.

I have a small dilema, I played all previous Arkham games on the Hard difficulty as it seems ideal for a pretty overpowered character.

I want to do the same here but I'm afraid the Batmobile combat sections will be even more tedious on this difficulty, wonder what i should choose... Probably Hard anyway.

I'm going to be sad if/when we find out the Xbox version is sub 1080p.
I wonder how big the city is while driving around?

How did they fuck THAT up? They were hyping the Batmobile so much ever since the reveal. Thought they'd nail the mechanics down and everything. Insane.

It's alright. Don't care for the chase sequences, but you're only mostly using it for some combat sequences, traveling, and puzzles. They're pretty distinct mechanics, conflating them all doesn't make any sense.

Yea it seems combat is what they messed up with, too bad it's a pretty dominant part, still but not all Batmobile gameplay is bad, only the tank mode by the sound of it.

I specifically liked parts of the tank combat, especially towards the second half of the game when more advanced enemies popped up. It turns into a pretty good cat and mouse setup, like twisted metal except less frustrating since the thing can just strafe around to escape.

Believe me. The batmobile is not terrible. Though for people who really suck at driving...yeah you probably won't dig it. The only big thing I had to wrap my head around and spend time adjusting was
Square is to reverse the car.
Once I had that down. Oh man...you can really do some cool stuff.

I think it's pretty great so far. I love that they made it an extension to Batman himself. It's the best gadget in the game. (so far from what I played) I love that they thought about using it in a variety of ways. Just one example, I positioned myself outside of a small room that was situated high above. I was able to eject out of the car and jump through the window above and takedown a guard and start instantly into combat. The "Batman Moments" in this game are so fucking good.

ALSO WARNING: For people who don't want to be spoiled. DO NOT even think about scoping out a quick stream or something over the weekend. The littlest of things could ruin the whole thing.

Oh you have already played the game!
Good to hear someone at least thought the car combat was cool :)

I prefer Mario Kart and Arcade racers to sim racers. If the handling/physics is fast, loose and forgiving, I probably won't dislike it too much. If running over enemies is easy and plentiful, I may even enjoy it.

I have many questions. 1. How big is the map? 2. Did they take and build on Origin's detective mode/crime scene investigation? 3. How would you judge the voice acting and writing so far?

So is the bat mobile actually terrible, or is there a chance it might just be some journalists sucking at using it? Not to sound condescending, but one think I've witnessed from countless racing game reviews, videos, off screen show recordings, let's plays, preview vids and all the rest, is that so many of them are plain terrible at racing or driving in games, and let's not get in to racing game reviews...so yea, anyone who's already played it, what's the deal? What specifically is bad about the bat mobile sections?

Hard is fine.

For all the mixed reception to the Batmobile I'm still really excited. Been waiting to drive this mofo around Gotham for a long time.

It's a breath of fresh air really.

Without it, I don't think the game would have been as good. The riddler challenges are really good imo.

The Driveclub party is over man. Let's move on.

It's not just DriveClub dude. Nearly every single show floor video over the many years and different shows, let's play videos etc. How many times have we all laughed and been outright stunned at how bad some of the driving has been? Lol. I know I sound so condescending and twatish, but I'm just being honest lol.

Then again, maybe that in itself indicates differences in a games learning curve? Not all gamers are going to be racing or driving fans and enthusiasts, or even core gamers full stop. Eg, the kind that might play so many different games, often competitively, that their experiences with them might differ somewhat compared to more casual gamers.

What is the main complaintcomplaint about the bat mobile?

Sounds like the batmobile combat. You constantly fight the same drone tanks over and over (one of the reviews claims one section has you taking on 40-50 of them). The game does eventually introduce a new tank unit but those are even worst because you have to use "car stealth" to sneak behind to the rear weak point -- if you are spotted it pretty much one shots you. Also the Fire Fly chases are terrible.

Driving and everything using it as transportation - including Riddler races - is totally cool. Using it as a weapon or gadget... Not so much. Though I do like using it as an aid in hand to hand combat.

I see. Is that because the controls are too complex or cumbersome, or because the functionality of the different weapons etc is just not very polished, fun to use or intuitive?
