Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

You know I was kinda dreading having to take smash out to pop in splatoon, especially when I just brought DLC for it and im feeling lazy...but then I suddenly remembered that I brought splatoon digitally. Life is good.

FInally got on a streak tonight. Managed to win 16 in a row. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop and to lose horribly.

Also tried to do Ranked Play again. I tried once I reached level 10, but didn't enjoy it. Something changed. I was loving the hell out of it. Ended up winning all the matches at C- and clawed my way up to a C. I actually love the new map for Ranked Play. I'm sure I"ll hate it once I start playing the decent players.

Noobs get paired up with other noobs, right? Just picked up the game and doing some single player, but not started MP yet. Threads in MP heavy games always end up sounding quite intimidating after a while, its all in-talk etc.

Not really. Haven't played with anyone yet and my W/L is about 50/50. Plenty of variety in skill in the MP, though you might wanna dip out on the rooms where you're getting blown out because that usually means the other people are teamed up.

I've got a NES Zapper and it's simply to cool for me not to use - though I've noticed that the starting weapon holds quite well in MP!

I would like to learn how to use the roller but alas, I'm horrible with it. But I get owned time after time on MP by some roller geniuses :(

As far as we know the matchmaking is all random.

Don't worry, if you play through the single player you should do just fine in mp. Its a good introduction and the bosses especially get you ready for it. The sp is great and you should definitely play it all but once you feel comfortable with aiming you can jump in mp and should do fine.

If you have any questions just ask.

That's the general idea. It doesn't happen all of the time and the game and universe can decide to let you lose for hours on end, even when you tend to do good. That's an extreme case though. The opposite can also happen.

Just paint and enjoy the game. Don't forget that walls don't give you points, so don't obsessively paint them.

One thing I am noticing is that I'm focusing on painting less than I am focusing on trying to suppress the other team. It actually makes the game a tiny bit less fun, but it's still fun. There was a lower level random dude who was in our GAF room who just wanted to paint, but everyone tore him down whenever he was spotted. Even though I did the same to him, I felt a bit bad. =(

But yeah, just enjoy the game. Practice Gyro on the SP and enjoy the final boss, which most of us loved. =D

While it's nice to roll into someone to splat them, that's not the preferred method of offense for rollers. You want to play sneaky when going for a kill. Learn the splash attack that rollers have. Get Ninja Squid so that no one sees the ripple that forms when you swim. Also, develop your sense of awareness. That's the key in any game like this.

If you want to have fun, try taking control of the Blackbelly Tower as a roller. It's pretty cool. You can even jump down on an unsuspecting squid and splat them.

So that's why it's called Octo Valley.

I'm guessing you'd just fall off the rail. And if they were gonna put them in I'm sure a lot of them would be over bottomless pits.

The best way to balance it would be so that it takes at most 200 points of damage to change the color of the line. To allow an inkling the chance to escape, the line wouldn't change immediately, but rather change as if you took a straw that was filled with soda, transferred it to a glass of water, then started drinking. The soda would be replaced by the water in the straw as you're drinking, which would be the same thing happening when the opposing team takes an inkline.

Generally speaking, yes there is some sort of match making even in Turf War. Most Turf War games I play only has players above 15 (I'm level 20) and I almost never see any player below level 5. I have played many matches with only level 20 players.

However, the level is only how much the player has played the game. There are some extremely bad level 20 players, and great level 7 players. (The rank is the skill level.)

how do you use chargers in this game? They seem pretty useless, bad for painting and charging a shot takes way too long
Hilarious. Point and shoot, duh. =P
That said, I had the other team like some fish in a barrel and I couldn't hit them. 'twas a bad hour of Charger play.

I can agree that it should be more than 1 shot to take over than inkrail, but 200 sounds a bit excessive. Taking an inkrail while someone is on it could probably lead to their death, so it shouldn't take any more damage than an enemy player would before dying.

Well, an inkling is 100 points of damage, so it really wouldn't take too long to hit 200 points (at max).

At the same time, have you seen how fast these weapons rack up damage? The slowest one are Chargers and Blasters, which can still rack up the damage fairly fast. What if you tried to take back an inkline after the area was clear, jump in it, and have that fast enemy come in and take it back as you're trying to get to the other side? Death by inkline is a bit harsh, unless the ink wasn't immediately changed.

I'm imagining long inklines that take 3-4 seconds to travel through, so maybe you're thinking of shorter ones. I dunno. I agree with 100 points for shorter ones.

$3 to 42? DD:

Who what now?

I have the same feeling. I think it marks the end of the "honeymoon phase" that people talked about some weeks ago. Now you don't only play for fun, but also to win (which is also fun).

I think it would be considered a pretty advanced stage element so a high risk high reward aspect to it seems fair. Plus, unless I'm forgetting some all inkrails are 1-way only, so presumably, unless the inkrail was placed in the center of the map, the enemy would have to first work their way into your base in order to claim it for themselves.

ugh oddly enough inkzooker isn't as useful as you'd think on bluefin ranked, the splat zone has cover right in the middle of it and it's really awkward to try and fire on the zone from pretty much anywhere

I'm not sure if I like this mode better or if it'd be better if there were two splat zones...

Strafe and mash the trigger to paint, covers ground real well.

Utilize grenades to cover stuff while you move around, place sprinklers in high spots on walls while painting elsewhere.

You can travel through inkrails both ways. It's just that there's only one end that you can ink to activate it.
Edit: Oh, so they would be limited to your base?
Completely OT but this picture looks so good. I wish I could find a nice Splatoon pic to use
XBX is still day 1 for me.

Why is everyone standing in front of me? Jesus it's like their intentionally blocking my shots...

It's too frustrating playing a charger atm. I'm tired of hitting my teammates instead of my target.

Or you can be a normal person and ink the corner-most block, but that's no fun.

Yea that's what I meant. And while there's no reason they have to be limited to team bases, I'd be surprised if they have any which start in the center of the map, unless it loops around the center or something.

no grenades or sprinklers on the Custom E-liter though :/
I can't give up the Kraken

It sucks when you do 10x better with a gun despite wanting to stick with Chargers. =/

Custom E-Liter is more defensive because of the beakons. The Kraken allows you to break through an area, which would let you place more beakons so that your team can come in whenever.

I had fun imagining a stage that was made up of inklines that alternated between your team's color and the opposing team's color. Green, blue, green, blue, etc. There's no floor to stand on, so you have to jump out of the line to splat. Taking control of the other team's inklines would net you points. Maybe add random floating platforms for the chargers. I dunno, just something goofy like that. =P

That's all I can bring to this discussion. I'm getting really tired.

I just got 19 kills with the Kelp Splatterscope on the Warehouse. damn. This isn't even Splat Zones either lmao

EDIT: oh you're using the Eliter. Yeah I have no idea how to use that thing either.

If only... that would be the only way to teach random people not to stand in front of me because giving the enemy a double kill sure as hell isn't doing the job.
