Reading this is amusing knowing I had like 30,000 crowns by the end of the game, having no money problems after first 30 hours or so.
I never even repaired my stuff (had indicator disabled) unless I was visiting armorer/blacksmith anyway. Ocasionally I just used the repair kits I accumulated, if I noticed in inventory something broken.

Uhm never had that problem, I have to much money. Maybe you are doing higher lever (sub)missions. You should do every mission on or around your level. I never had any problems with durability (lvl 21 atm)
If you loot enough you will find enough weapon repair kits for 10 years. Also you can craft them if needed. I never had too. Plus you will get enough gold that repairing them won't even cost much anymore.
Are you using magic swords? I have a feeling they have less durability. I stopped using them and just went for Witcher swords when I could.
Pretty close. Like 2 hours or so.
Had the same problem early on in the game.
Once you get to novigrad, youll have more money than you know what to do with.
Just gotta bear with it for now.

The quest was 3 levels higher than me, but do my stats even improve? The leveling of signs and such is the only thing I'm really doing since I wanted to focus on getting a bitching Quen and Igni sign combo. I really don't think a couple of % more damage would have made much of a difference even if I was buffing my core stats. The problem was it took a lot of trial and error to figure out how to beat these ghosts. The only reason I survived long enough to figure it out was because I myself have the super cheesy Quen->Health regeneration buff which makes me essentially invincible because the conversion of damage to quen into health is enormously efficient. And thank goodness it was since that darn ghost does like 60% damage to me each hit.
I really don't want to have to do every quest. Is that honestly your recommendation?
Edit:
I should also add that the 250 coins I got as a reward for this quest is like, the most money I've seen in the whole game. Prior to this it's been "10 crowns for this" and looting a few coins that I can't spend because I need to go to a bank.

what's the quen to Heath combo?
Have you been reading your bestiary? Hopefully you're not ignoring Yrden while fighting the ghosts.
If you feel weak, do a main quest or two and you'll level in a jiffy
Contracts in particular almost always give 200+ gold on completion unless you managed to piss off the client one way or another.

Leveling Quen in the Ability tree allows you create a bubble that absorbs damage and restores vitality.
Are you using Yrden and Moon Dust? Makes it much easier as they are then forced to stay in one form and you can get consecutive hits on them.
If you just do main quests from now on, around 10 hours (Edit: probably more around 5), maybe a bit less.

Enjoyed EVERY part of it upto now, been a great experience. Do reckon I will just do main quests from now on maybe with a contract thrown in. Undecided if I will play through again yet or just wait on the Season Pass stuff to be released.
Actually, I forgot I did do some side quests after that. It's maybe more towards 5 hours than 10 probably.

If you're level 7 you can craft and wear the 1st set of Griffon armor which is found by buying maps from vendors. Ignore the level requirements for these treasure quests as you can often sneak past any high level mobs and just loot the crate they're guarding.
Also if the contract you just completed was Jenny O'the Woods I found that a pain in the ass at level 17. Generally I'm found the crafted gear is more durable and equivalent to gear several levels above it found out in the world. Money will stop being a concern soon either from mission rewards or just selling loot from boxes. Lesser runestones and glyphs are free money as the crafting system seems to be broken as most cannot be used to craft normal grade runestones/glyphs.
Edit: Sorry it's not general vendors just blacksmiths that sell these maps (they're the ones that have the icons that look like a map folded in four parts)

Silver sword is the one I'm having the most trouble with. I don't find them lying around often.
Don't have the bomb. I was using Ydren. Even with that, it turns out you have to be hyper aggressive with the hunting down of them when they split apart, otherwise if you give them even a few seconds the health regen they have is enormous. The fight lasted probably 15-20 minutes or more before I got into the rythm of it.

That aside, great game. No major complaints. Doing another playthrough where I'll play Gwent, try a different skill build and do as many sidequests as possible. At the end of my first playthrough, I had a bunch of weapons diagrams that were over my current level by a significant margin so I'm assuming I missed a lot of the small stuff.

He is portrayed as this scheming Machiavellian character who has a nose for politics. Then when he betrays the alliance between Thaler, Roche and himself, he expects Geralt to just leave Roche and Ves to just die even though depending on the path you take, they just helped you defend Kaer Morhen. Even more out of character is the fact that he himself is involved in the fight despite being an obese man with a chronic ankle injury. Makes no sense. I actually would have preferred that this loose end be tied up in the expansion since the post-war world of the Witcher 3 seems super interesting

Did you fight the wraith(s) in a Yrden field? The first one I fought I chipped down without Yrden and it does a real number on sword durability to be sure, but then I read their bestiary entry and saw that they were weak to Yrden. From then on my strategy with wraiths has been to drop a Yrden between myself and them, keep on the opposite outer edge (rolling or dodging as needed) and when they enter go for a strong attach followed by two weak attacks. That first strong attach on a wraith inside a Yrden can take half or more of their health away.
Also, if it is a noonwraith or nightwraith capable of summoning three wraiths you need to go all quick attack (or crossbow if you have it) at them asap because they'll start trying to drain your life to regen the noon/nightwraith. I believe the black blood potion would solve this as well, not 100% on that though.
Other than that, if you go for a quest a good bit above your level what you're really looking for there is the payoff between damage to your gear and the quality of the reward. Three levels higher shouldn't be a big issue though. When first arriving in Velen I basically wiped out my silver sword on a level 14 forktail (type of draconid) when I was level 6 at a random "hidden treasure" and it cost me a good chunk of my money to get it fixed. Entirely worth it however as I got a pair of Assassin's Boots with two slots that I used for about 10 levels.
As the game progresses you'll find ample repair kits of all ranges from Amateur (15%) to Master (90%). I ended up just selling 25 master armor repair kits simply because I didn't want the weight.
An additional strategy for early game play with weapons, as silver swords are harder to find, is to keep all silvers you come across and basically use the weakest one you think can get you through a fight, then as they wear down below 50% sell them for a nice stack of gold or dismantle to build the next in line.

Yep, I've commented on this a few times in this topic and the spoiler topic as well. Politics in general has been simplified compared to The Witcher 2 - maybe as a reaction to the criticism that there was too much politics and not enough witcher stuff in the latter.

Half your gold? How much money do you have at level 7 where a repair of 50% takes half your gold? Sounds like severe money problems. In case you dont know different merchants buy different items at different prices. So selling weapons to the armor vendor or vice versa will get you much less than selling to the correct purchaser. Also pelts in your junk tab sell for large sums of money at innkeepers. For selling other stuff like ingredients my rule of thumb is to keep an onhand stock of 10 and sell all the extras. i made like 1k gold when i realized how many fucking drowner brains i had.

At the main menu of the game when you first load it up, there's a DLC menu under Options. You can disable Yen's alternate outfit and the alternate Gwent card designs, too.

And Lambert impersonating Vesemir with the hat and all. Once they contacted that one mage, I just had to laugh. It was actually quite funny. I haven't laughed at a videogame like that in a while

Time to leave Skellige and return to Velen, I kinda don't want to because Skellige is so beautiful. This game, man...

Yesterday I had to restart the game because Geralt suddenly forgot how to grab onto ledges.
On another occasion he decided to refuse to dive.
It's annoying when you need to climb during a fight but since it's mapped to the dodge button you can't. If I sheath my sword he goes into fist mode so it doesn't solve the problem. Was attacked by echidnas in a small hole and couldn't climb to a better vantage point because Geralt was locked into fight mode, really annoying.
Roach randomly stopping for no reason seems to happen more in Skellige because of the terrain.
Ursine armor looks cool. Already have the diagrams for the enhanced version but my level is too low.

I reloaded, yes, that was enough to fix it.
I'm getting really into total immersion mode in this game. No minimap, no fast travel. It's fun. If I want to go to Skellige I just get in a boat and sail to the sea's edge, then fast travel when the map is forced to pop up.
Probably why it's taken so goddamn long for me to do everything, but I discover a lot more cool stuff and am way more in touch with the landmarks and how to get around the world.
