Just finished the game. What a ride. The most memorable scene - maybe not the best though - is
the night of drunken debauchery at Kaer Morhen
.

Reading The Last Wish right now, kinda strange going from game to book since I've already been in this world. It seems like this game nails down the armor more accurately to the books, as they detail Geralt clad in leather with studded with nails and spikes.

If you're going through the novels, just keep in mind that both The Last Wish, and the recently released Sword of Destiny are short story collections rather than novels in the main Witcher saga. The Blood of Elves is where the main story begins, and continues through Time of Contempt and Baptism of Fire. So far, that's everything that's been translated into English, though I assume more are on the way.

Yeah, I'm just gonna read through them in order posted in the community thread and assume I'll be fine.

I'm only like 20% into the book, but so far it's played out suprisingly similar to what goes on in the games on a general level, with Geralt being the main character.

Yeah, they're definitely great books. I'm not a huge fan of Fantasy novels anymore, having read my fill of them when I was younger, but I'm still glued to this series. There's a great blend of traditional fantasy content with politics, which you wouldn't expect to be as intriguing as it is.

nope that's Keira

Yeah, I'm team Keira, too. She just does it for me. Sucks that I ended up choosing the path
of killing her. I was like oh shit...I seriously have to kill her? And then when I did, it happened without any dramatics, it was kind of jarring. I thought for sure I was going to spare her in a cut scene, but nope. It actually bugged me for a little while after!

As for comedy, the drunk scene was great, but the White Whale one also cracked me up. I never really gave Witcher 1 and 2 a chance, but this game made me really grow attached to the characters. Good job CDPR!

well i did every Gwent quest, whenever I play new innkeepers I dont get cards from winning anymore, and ever since the latest ps4 patch, I bought all the gwent cards from innkeepers....

but it still says I have not completed "collect em all"

what the hell...

Did you play every merchant/blacksmith/armourer/etc who gave you the option as well, until beating those new guys stopped giving you cards? Did you buy all of the cards being sold by innkeepers and some merchants?

I think I missed the ones sold at the Kingfisher, will that be patched on PS4 at all or am I boned?

This game is ridiculously addictive... Been exploring a lot more and it's opened up so many more option for me. Finally learning my way around potions, oils etc.

There's only 1 point of interest I can't complete in White Orchad. It's an Abandoned Site that looks like a shrine on the roadside, but there aren't any enemies in the area to get rid of. I googled it and apparently a lot of people have the same issue where the enemies just never spawn there. Am I missing much by just skipping over this?

I had the same issue and fixed it by coming back at a different time of day.

I don't know about that. The Griffin set is the only one that vaguely matches that description and even that's weirdly bulky and not spiky enough.
It's the other witchers who get perfectly witchy gear. I wish I could get Eskel's jacket and Vesemir's gauntlets so my Geralt could become fantasy Rob Halford a less fantastical version of Rob Halford.

Oh god, the scene with
you drinking with Eskel and Lambert in Kaer Morhen is so good. Loving the Kaer Morhen stuff. They recreated TW1 castle so well.

Also, anyone who says that Geralt never shows any emotion in the game has clearly never actually played it.

This gorgeous gorgeous game!

One of the best-looking areas I've found so far. If you go over to that lookout point on the other side of the bay (top right of the picture), you can actually see all the way to that huge Elven tower on Undvik waaaaaaay over to the West (on a clear day, at least):

Their relative positions on the map, for reference. Geralt up in the top right, Eldberg Lighthouse west a bit, Kaer Almhult a bit further, and Tor Gvalch'ca way down in the bottom left:

Draw distance for days.

You can also dive all the way off the top of the bridge to Kaer Trolde :p

Alright, so I was plowing through story stuff trying to get to the end and decided to do that optional side-quest involving
politics
on your return to Novigrad.
What the hell is with this quest? Reason of State has to be one of my least favorite in the game to be honest.

The side-quests keeps on delivering. Just did a quest that seemed like a simple fetch-quest called Black pearl. An old soldier promised to gather a Black pearl before reuniting with the love of his life. It ends up being a story about
Alzheimers since when he finally returns with the pearl she does not remember him
. Really touching stuff.

Agreed. CD Projekt managed to make even mundane and ordinary quests interesting and, at times, heart wrenching.

....beat the Witcher. Wow. Gonna need some time to process. Been a long time that a game leaves me feeling depressed cause its over. After the ending I was left in the starting castle but all alone (not a spoiler). Felt so...melancholy. Threat is eliminated, but...now what? So I ran around for another hour just taking in the sights 😢😔😮☺

I was just thinking about this... What can the expansions really be about considering pretty much all of the endings? Is there one that ends with Geralt merrily going off on new adventures?

It is a bummer that the expansions pretty much
can't use any familiar faces except for Zoltan and Dandelion. Those guys stay alive no matter what choices you make, right? I guess we never saw Eskel leave, so he might be around. They probably won't use either Dijkstra or Roche because of that one stupid quest. It won't be Cerys or Hjalmar since we already know the expansions don't take place in Skellige. Is there a branch in the baron's path where the daughter dies? Otherwise she might be back.

Did any of you encounter a
level 48 Archgriffin
on one of the smaller Skellige islands? That was so epic! It was my last fight of the game and a fitting send off.

Yeah, the quests in this game are great, even ones like this that are basically your typical fetch quests mechanically. I wasn't too hot on the game anyway but the side quests in games like Dragon Age: Inquisition are a joke compared to Wild Hunt's.

I'm usually not into fantasy settings or pulpy novels but I'm thinking about getting the books. Love all the characters and I'm bummed out that I'm done with the game.

Yeah, Witcher 3 has some of the best quests I've experienced in an RPG personally. And there's so many of them too. It seems to have both quantity and quality, that's truly rare.

Got the
Ciri becomes a witcher ending
and quite happy with it. Only thing I'm bummed about is the fact that
I was left alone 'cause I had a relationship with both Triss and Yen. I didn't play the first Witcher game and haven't read the books so I didn't know a lot about Yen. Triss was like my only romance at the beginning because of the second game only. The problem was that I realized later in the game that I was way more attracted to Yen so I told her I loved her also and well.. got what I deserved :(

Anyways, definitely one of the best games I've ever played and the best open world RPG I've played. Getting lost in its world was a gaming experience that I'll surely remember for years to come.

Thank you CD Projekt RED

Part in the game where you're helping Keira with the tower
and i ended up killing Keira. I am actually pretty gutted about this. She was a good character and I didn't see it coming. Shoulda gone back and redone the scene!
Great game though. Really enjoying it.

Obviously I haven't read much, but Wolf or even Cat gear is much more similar to what's been described to me so far; black overcoat, leather vest studded with nails, spikes on the gauntlets. Sounds like mastercrafted Wolf gear to me.

P.S. I did some exploring early and came across a little abadoned village south east of Fyke Isle called "Drudge" if I remember correctly. There was a house with a dead body and a locked stash that required a key, but I couldn't find anything in the area. Anyone come across that?

Afaik, the expansions will take place during the events of the main game, not after them.

Which leaves me wondering how they're going to integrate them into the game. Are they going to be part of an expanded main story or optional, self-contained side stories? I hope it's going to be the former, but it's probably going to be the latter. They're probably going for optional side quests that will, however, have an effect on the ending.

I've put some points into Delusion so it's up to level 3 now, but I still don't seem to have access to the conversation options that required Delusion lv2 even. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Did you put Delusion in your active skill slot in the abilities menu?

Expansions will be set before the ending so that's not a problem and they also said we would be seeing familiar faces from the past ! (Shani ? Saskia ? Iorveth ? )

Have you put the skill into an open skill slot? Higher level conversation options won't work if you don't "equip" Axii.

I thought about that but I don't know, man, I've never seen an expansion that shoehorns itself into the middle of the main campaign. It's always an epilogue or a sidestory.

Re-reading what info is out there, I'd say the first expansion is just a few side quests that make probably only references the main story by talking about the war and stuff like that, but likely has no direct connection to Ciri or any other main character. The other expansion sounds like it's basically just a standalone minigame with no relation to the main game.

You guys got links? I just went on a googline spree and there was nothing about them being set before the ending. Just mention that you'll be seeing the Man of Glass and "dearly missed" friends and going to Toussaint, plus the typical CDPR promises of delivering worthwhile content.

And, yeah, my immediate conclusion was Iorveth too. Explains why he's mysteriously completely missing from the game.

Finished up everything and only got one trophy left to collect all Gwent cards. Only missed the Zoltan card in my first run from the scholar in White Orchard. Could wait for a patch but Batman is not out yet so I just now decided to start a "Gwent Speed run" on the easiest difficulty. Let's see if I can get it before the end of the week.

I honestly don't know how they managed to make this game so damn good. The sheer quantity of stuff in the game should by all accounts mean the overall quality should be lower. But somehow they've managed an incredible amount of quality and quantity. I feel like I get to have my cake and eat it too.

Around 85 hours in, seems I'm nearing the end of the main story. There are still dozens and dozens of hours of side quests and exploring I could do, but the story has me hooked and I really want to see it wrap up.

I love the whole (pre final battle spoilers)
gathering the troops trope. It's used quite a bit, but very effectively done. It's extremely satisfying to be combining forces with all these great characters you've worked with throughout the game. I definitely feel a bond with so many of those characters after spending many hours with each throughout the game, and to have them all rallying to help you and Ciri and Kaer Morhen is touching. I loved walking around Kaer Morhen talking to all of Geralt's friends, while reminiscing about all the adventures we had together throughout the game.

If this was a Bioware game, that'd be the final confrontation

It isn't. You've still got an entire arc left with free open world exploration.

I'm at level 7 and item durability is getting really annoying. It cost like half my gold last time I had to repair my sword, but I did it anyway. I was back to full or whatever high percentage they repair it to. Then I did a night-wraith contract... and I'm back under 50% and in need of repairs. ONE FIGHT. The buggers regenerate and its really hard to seal the deal quickly. Really fucking angry right now. It feels like I have almost no money constantly yet I buy almost nothing but occasional alchemical supplies. Maybe I'll eventually be able to cash in these foreign coins at the bank or w/e but currently this is "financial stress and irritating group combat simulator 2015".

What's the difference between a Nilfgardian and a Drowner?
A Drowner knows how to swim.
