Here's a thread for people wanting to get into the program. Please note that the process is not immediate and it might take a while for you to be accepted into the program. Acceptance is not guaranteed either.

This thing really makes you realise how goddamn good the 360 library is. This past week I've been constantly going "Oh right. That game. That would be cool to play again on the bone".

Picked up Blue Dragon in anticipation. I hope it gets added for the holidays :)

I am hopeful too, but on Giant Bombs E3 streams Phil said that multi disc games are not supported by the emulator, though that he would love to get Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon working eventually.

A lot of people like to suggest that the 360 doesn't have good exclusives, but it's crazy talk.

You know, Outrun Arcade is delisted but I can still re-download it to a real 360 even though nobody can buy a new copy any more.

Hey, I can dream...

Yeah I was wondering today how they would handle multi-disc games. I guess that kind of answers that. They don't know yet.

My copies of Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are standing by.

I wonder what will happen with Fallout NV.

My wife picked up the Ultimate Edition on 360 recently, and all of the DLC is on a second disc.

Yeah they said they are still working on that. It's tough, some games had you install a disc and then play from the other, like Halo 4. Others had you swap discs part way through, like Mass Effect 2. Each game handled multi disc differently and it's a matter of working that out with authentication and packaging on their end and with publishers.

I would rather it be that they allow the BC from the OG Xbox to be available as well, then we could play the far superior (even to C2C) Outrun 2. Hopefully there's a chance of this happening, because from memory the emulation on that was almost perfect, except for the odd texture issue (I think only on the loading screen) and speed.

I fired up Mass Effect this morning...

I couldn't find any DLC through the game menu.
Is it still available, has it been pulled, does DLC not work with backwards compatibility?

From remastered to remakes, now repackaging.

Multi disc games that were never released as GoD would have to be repackaged. Basically the compatibility wraps the emulator around a game on demand copy or disc image, right?

Yeah I was wondering if the disc is the key that unlocks your digital download and lets you play the game, would we still need to swap discs? I'm curious to see what the solution ends up being for these different multi-disc situations.

what are you getting at......?

If you weren't part of the preview program and you had a friend who had recently played the supported games, and you yourself owned them digitally, you could download through their recently played list. Some people are reporting that this doesn't work anymore so if you want to play BC games, you'll need to be part of the preview.

A new week is upon us! Maybe we will get a few more games added.

I imagine we get a few more before Gamescom so they can mention it there too.

oh. I'm in the preview so I guess that doesn't affect me. Thanks.

I wonder if they blew their load before Gamescom, hopefully there are many more surprises.

They said they had as much distinct content at Gamescom as they did for E3, iirc.

We know 3 titles 100% there: Crackdown, Scalebound and Quantum Break. ReCore is pretty much guaranteed if they want to hit Spring 16

Should be a good show, plus trailers for Halo 5/TR/F6/FL etc i'd guess

Yeah Gamescom should be a good showing. Really looking forward to seeing those 3 (now 4 with ReCore) games, all pretty big ones to have missed E3.

I wonder if there will be a steady stream of titles for Preview members this summer.

I'm a little late but thanks MS, now I will buy an X-bone. Still waiting on they who shall not be named to add bc and stop dreaming about how to fuck me on games I've already bought.

Did this page just leak the official release month by accident? it says fall 2015 or "this holiday" multiple times except for this one question

http://www.xbox.com/en-IN/xbox-one/backward-compatibility/qa

Q: Does Home Gold work with Xbox One Backward Compatibility?

A: During preview, Home Console content sharing will work, but Home Gold will not. Home Gold however, is a feature we will add before the program launches in October.

Also another question on that, seems like buying 360 games through the XB1 won't be possible at launch:

Q: Can I purchase Xbox 360 titles through the Xbox One Store?

A: Xbox One Backward Compatibility titles are already integrated into the Xbox One marketplace alongside Xbox One titles. They are searchable and available for download, but will not be available to purchase directly through the Xbox One Store at launch.

October sounds about right.

Not surprised at no purchase xbl store through the xb1 though, for certain disc games its much cheaper to buy at the moment anyways

compatible XBLA only games are fine though obviously

Also found this that points to October aswell, at the very bottom of the US version of this page:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/backward-compatibility

*Initial preview titles with more to come. Games are subject to change.
Xbox One Backward Compatibility feature works with select Xbox 360 games, see http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/backward-compatibility. Kinect and accessories designed for Xbox 360, and games requiring those accessories, are not compatible with Xbox One consoles. Xbox Live and broadband internet required for initial download of game to console. Xbox Live Gold required for online multiplayer and cloud saves (sold separately). Beta preview program has limited functionality and only supports select Xbox 360 digital games. Advanced features not available until October 2015. Games sold separately. In-home streaming to Windows 10 PCs coming soon. See xbox.com/xboxone.

Edit: Rainbow Six Seige has a release date of 13th October, so official release date is likely sometime between Oct 1st & 13th

October makes sense. They obviously want to make it a bullet point feature this holiday to help push 360 owners to buy in. Will probably be some nice bundles too.

I'm guessing more on Recore at TGS?

Would love to see the Xbox 360 shmups become backwards compatible - Ikaruga, DoDonPachi, Under Defeat, Guwange, etc.
If the BC remains at the state it is I really don't think this is a way you'd really want to play those games to be honest. And some of the best ones were region locked.

Q: Do I need to put in a disk every time I want to play an Xbox 360 on Xbox One game? Or will the Xbox One save it after the first time?

A: No. After putting in your disk the first time, your Xbox One will save the information and remember it for the next time you play. You’ll only need to put in your disk once.

Do I read no disc-check from this ?

If all betas remained the same, what would be the point? We've actually seen improvements in some areas like improved texture stream and faster load times.

Forced V-Sync and possible drops in performance. I would bet there would be added latency as well which would basically kill trying to play shmups like that.

It's a beta. It's not finished.

Games that would be unplayable with added input lag (like Super Meat Boy) work fine.

They will of course improve. I am talking about the current state of the emulation.
Also the improvements they are implementing don't really help the game we are talking about here but the drawbacks of their current implementation would hurt them significantly.
So wait and see. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was a bad idea.
