Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Comic-Con Trailer

Batman 89, Batman Forever, Batman Begins. If you include the animated films, The Dark Knight Returns & Batman: Year One. It was just in the TV show too. Throughout media it's been recreated hundreds of times, I just don't see why we need another one.

It's like doing another Spiderman origin story; at this point, everyone has seen it.

Ah I see, thanks! I was under the impression it was only 89 and Begins. I mean I get the sentiment, but in regards to film I don't really care if it's been shown in a bunch of different animated features or on TV because that all feels like such a far realm from movie universes and whatnot - but that's a personal thing i guess.

Are people forgetting that we might not have seen Robin yet?

If speculation is correct, of course.

Yeah I forgot about her too, lol.

...But that Robin suit in the trailer with the Joker crap all over is obviously for a boy, not a girl. And, I dunno, I can't see them putting in another Robin in this movie. When they already have Superman and Wonder Woman and Lex and apparently Aquaman and....

You can't really say "never," but it's weird.

If I were to put money on it I'd say it's more likely she's Batgirl than the red headed female Robin from Miller's work (dunno her name, sorry). But doing Batgirl with a retired Batman is kind of weird... I dunno haha.

Any other possibilities as to who she could be? Lana? Someone connected to Wonder Woman?

Yeah this is gonna be bad, obviously

some might disagree with that, but no one will disagree that jesse eisenberg looks god awful, lol

Frank Miller did it with Robin in Dark Knight Returns. He came out of retirement and she basically joined him whether he wanted it or not.

Considering the visual/tonal inspiration they're taking from that book (if not at all the plot) I don't know why her possibly picking up the mantle of Robin at some point in this cinematic universe is out of bounds. It doesn't have to happen this movie. But it could.

Batgirl would be pretty cool but don't see that happening. She would make a great one though...

In my dream world, she's Babs, and Bruce asks her how Dick is doing, cause he emotionally and physically cut everyone but Alfred out of his life after Jason was killed.

I'm down with this. Jena's someone that could fit either role, but I think Barbara's a better move and an easier sell than Carrie. It's an obvious play for the universe-building and this Joker they're setting up.

Sorry, I was talking about Batgirl. I know about the Robin story in the Miller story.

I think Batgirl post-Batsy-retirement is odd because of the fact she's Gordon's daughter. Like, what's Gordon been doing all this time, then? Why does she choose now to become Batgirl instead of during Batman's prime? These are not difficult questions to answer...but in this particular movie? when we already have all these characters? I think a new Robin like Frank Miller's would make more sense, but even that I think is a bit much in this movie...

Disclaimer, I never read the Miller story, but I know of it. So for all I know that comic makes way more sense for this movie than I realize. Still, like, how is this movie not four hours long? Haha oh man I hope it's not a bloated mess.

In my dream world, she's Babs, and Bruce asks her how Dick is doing, cause he emotionally and physically cut everyone but Alfred out of his life after Jason was killed.

But then they'd have to acknowledge Jason exists. Siiiigh I just have no hope for Batfamily shit in DC movies.
I really feel like the gravestone saying Richard is definitive evidence that he was the Robin who died and Jason really doesn't exist, there was only the one Robin, blah blah...which is disappointing as fuck, but I expected as much.

Sorry, I was talking about Batgirl. I know about the Robin story in the Miller story.

No, I know, but you were talking about Batgirl as an alternative to Carrie Kelly because you didn't think they'd put Carrie Kelly in - and then you offered up a scenario that is essentially Carrie Kelly's exactly, in a movie obviously visually and tonally inspired by the Dark Knight Returns.

It's just going the long way around to arrive at a character that would essentially serve the same purpose as the other character you just dismissed out of hand for reasons that don't make sense considering your pitch for Batgirl. But then again, you just said you're not really familiar with Dark Knight Returns, so it makes sense why you might go that direction.

If she's playing a superhero in this movie, it's probably Robin. It just seems way cleaner, narratively. Especially if they're looking to give him some sort of arc beyond "I hate Superman - Superman's okay." If losing Robin is a key motivator for his actions, him getting a new Robin on different terms might allow for that. It worked in Dark Knight Returns.

Wow! This is the super hero film we have been waiting for!

MCU is colorful and all fun but i need some supar-powers rekt-ing chaos!

It is too bad Zack movies have questionable logic flow, but im in it for the action!

Get used to it, just like Marvel has a visual identity with it's films so will BvS & Justice League I-II.

That's what happens when you use the same director.

Actually, the problem with Marvel movies is that they don't have any visual identity. Despite having numerous directors, the movies all have that made for TV bland look to them. You really can't tell who directed what.

So the ending battle will be Bats teaming up with Supes and WW to take on Doomsday?

I guess WW is in to because she is tracking Doomsday or something.

Fair enough--because, like I said, I never read the Miller comic. Though maybe I wasn't super clear with what I meant, because I agree with the bold; doing female Robin--a new character that the average audience member wouldn't be familiar with--would be easier, in the end. That's all I was trying to say, haha. Doing Batgirl seems like it would raise more questions. But, as I said, never read the comic. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm sorry it just sounds overrated and boring to me. I'm a terrible Batman fan I know lol.

I would be interested in either, honestly, if it could somehow fit into this movie with all the other plot threads.

Because Robins suck. All of them.

Yeah well maybe YOU SUCK

joking you seem like a cool guy

In all seriousness there are a number of ways of doing a story featuring Robin while keeping it mature. It doesn't need to be Adam West or Batman & Robin. Robin has worked fine for years in comics. And...if you don't like any Robins, you can just...not watch the movie. Throw the Robin fans a bone and then make five more Batman movies where he's alone and broody--there, everyone's happy. :D

You're just jealous of Dick's butt though, admit it.

The identity of the Robin who was killed in this movie has been revealed via set photo hidden behind spoiler tag in this thread a couple times, I believe.

You ever have hair whipped in your eye?

It stings >:(
In high school this girl was sitting in front of me and I happened to look up at the exact moment she whipped her hair around at mach speed. Her hair hit my eyeball and I can't even explain the pain. It was excruciating.

Anyway back on topic, this trailer got me hyped as all hell. I like the story presented so far and I think its going to make me enjoy Man of Steel more in hindsight.

I hope the movie is as good as the trailer, because that trailer was fantastic.

I'm confident in this movie because Chris Terrio wrote it.

It's not like 300 and Sucker Punch where Zack Snyder wrote it.

Or like Man of Steel where David Goyer wrote all of it.

I actually kind of like Lex. The more I watch the trailer, the more Eisenburg's take is growing on me.

Still though, I hope Jenna comes out of nowhere as Carrie or Babs and steals the show.

I will never understand this argument. I feel like it's just something people have started parroting and don't even really know what they're saying anymore.
