FIRST ANNUAL NEOGAF FGW EVO 2015 PREDICTION COMPETITION!

I am personally holding NeoGAF's first ever EVO prediction contest. I will be listing a bunch of questions and you have to predict as many as you can. The person who gets the most points gets awarded $20 by me personally!

Here are the questions (finals/top 8 means finals including all days):

1) How many US players will be in the top 8 of Persona 4, Tekken 7 and GGXrd combined?

5

2) How many US players will be in the top 8 of USF4?

2

3) How many “gods” will be in the top 8 of UMVC3 (gods are Justin Wong, FChamp, ChrisG)?

All of them. Uh, 3.

4) How many players will cry on stage (whether tears of joys or tears of sadness)?

4

5) Will Ono appear in a cosplay? If so then which character? (getting the 2nd question right will award you bonus points)?

Of course. It'll be a new character. If I have to get specific, then I'll say the one teased at the end of Ken's trailer.

6) How many different characters will we see in the top 8 of USF4 (counter picks included)?

7

7) How many different characters will we see in the top 8 of UMVC3 (counter picks included)?

I got not clue honestly. Gonna say 15

8) How many different characters will we see in the top 8 of both the Smash games combined (counter picks included)? [Same characters from the two different games count as different characters so if there's a Fox in a Smash 4 top 8 and a Fox in Melee top 8, that counts as two separate characters as they are different games] See this post for a better explanation.

Uh, I'll guess 10

9) How many fatalities will we see in the top 8 of MKX?

4

10) Will Tekken x SF be at EVO? If yes then name two characters that they will unveil at the event (getting the 2nd question right will award you bonus points).

Hell no.

11) Which game will have the highest stream numbers at EVO in a top 8? Bonus question: Which game will have the lowest stream numbers in a top 8? (cannot specify same game for both in order to increase your changes to get at least one right)

I'll guess one of the Smash game will have the highest. Melee since it's on finals day. Are we limited to only official games? I'll say Tekken 7 then for lowest.

12) How many players will appear in more than one top 8 at EVO?

3

13) How many grand final bracket resets will there be at EVO?

4

14) Will there be more Season 1 or Season 2 characters in Killer Instinct top 8? Bonus question: By how much?

Season 2

15) How many different countries will be represented in the top 8 of USF4?

6

16) Which game will have the longest top 8 runtime? Bonus question: Which game will have the shortest run time in top 8? (Cannot specify same game for both in order to increase your chances to get at least one right)

Smash 4 for longest. Persona for shortest.

17) Will any player make a repeat win at this year’s EVO from last year?

Yes

18) Will there be a brand new fighting game announcement at EVO? Bonus question: If so then what will it be?

Nope.

19) At what time will EVO finish at (rounded to the nearest hour) on the final day?

Uh, I'll guess in EST. Gonna say 2 a.m. Because fuck me.

20) FINAL QUESTION: Who will win EVO for each individual game?

USF4: Momochi
Marvel 3: JWong
Smash 4: Zero
GGXrd: Ogawa
KI: CDjr
MKX: Sonic Fox
Melee: Mango or however you spell it.
Persona:
qsbXThc.gif
BananaKen
qsbXThc.gif

Tekken: Pops (I don't follow Tekken at all and this was the only name that popped into my head. I don't even know if that's an actual Tekken player)

Getting a regular question right will give you 5 points. Getting a bonus question right will give you 3 points. Final question is worth 3 points per game you get right.

In the event of a tie, the questions that involved guessing with numbers will be used as tie breakers (ie. who got the closest to the guesses across all questions).

You can post your responses in FGW or you can PM me your answers. Deadline is before the start of EVO 2015.

I really like the Hayabusa stick. It feels so much smoother than a JLF.

I'd have it in my main stick if it could fit. It's a bit taller than a JLF and my stick box is already a tight fit so I can't get it in there. :(

Also that sentence sounds really odd out of context.

Anyone buy the HRAP4 Kai? Curious to what folks here think about the Hayabusa stuck and Kuro buttons. Already read 60 Amazon reviews and Markman's thoughts. Just curious if any locals have experience to contrast against Sanwa stuff.

Hayabusa stick is amazing, feels like an improvement on the jlf. The buttons are usable, but sanwa buttons are better. Kuro buttons feel a bit sticky, while sanwa buttons are very smooth. Overall its a great stick, only thing I really dislike is that there's not enough wrist space. TE has a lot of wrist space and I got used to my wrist sitting flush with the surface. With the kai, if I play like I did with the TE, the edge hits my wrist.

People hoping ASW ever makes a game with a non-anime aesthetic gonna be real sad for a real long time.

Man maybe they could hook up with Rocksteady and 343 and Rockstar and like you could have Batman v Niko and then Halo comes in as an assist.

Apparently Kazunoko has a pretty easy path to top 32. Anyone doing some kinda bracket analyse for other players?

Probably the juiciest block of pools to make top 32 is Xian vs. PR Balrog and Momochi vs. Valmaster. Then the losers would play. Gackt and Koji Kog are in the mix too.

Wao, 15ms or more input delay? That's, no good.

That is relative to the fastest board on the system measured, it's not an absolute measure that holds up between PS3 and PS4, for example.

I've a new-board Q4 that's 15ms relative to the 360+ on PS3 and it's completely playable. That said, if you can buy a faster stick or a slower one, prefer the snappy one. I tried another guy's modded TE playing Yata (have to use Q4 in PS3 mode to be able to map all the buttons) and it was noticeably more fluid-feeling.

I love the Evo game break down where it proves that most people there are Monogamers in the competition and makes people calling it a Community seem VERY ODD.

But man dis Cammy cosplay

Wonder why PS3 mode TE2 is so much faster than PS4 mode

The PS4 mode is faster because it reports a higher polling rate to the console, so the controller's state has a higher chance of making it in on the current frame's input processing window. ie:

Input windows: 1, 2, 3
PS3 Poll rate: X denotes when the system asks the controller what it's state is
PS4 Poll rate: Y

Code:
11111111111111112222222222222222
_________X_________X_________X
____Y____Y____Y____Y____Y____Y

Probably not worth getting too worried about given that the TE R1 is sitting at F and D for PS3 and 360 respectively and everyone and their mothers was using that for years. Still, happy my TE-S is dual modded with Cerberus :O

Yeah it's definitely not the end of the world but a faster stick is a faster stick and you can definitely feel the difference, tried new board Q4 (~15ms) vs. modded TE (<1ms) on PS3 and it was possible to feel the difference.

Really, the point is: When buying a stick, pick the faster one all else being equal.

Does anyone know how Best Buy is handling the SFV beta? I have my preorder with them, and I know they they were listed as an eligible retailer.

My favorite stick of all time. Perfect with 2lb spring. A bit loose stock for me.

Running on 28 hours with no sleep now. Getting wedding stuff done, then dinner with the in laws and going to check out that gameworks place tonight.

Well I bet evo has more girls competing than LoL.
