Fighting Games Weekly | July 13-19 | Stream Monster Yearly: Evolution 2015

I've always wanted to run a small Ryu mirror only multi-game round robin with some friends. Any decent FG with Ryu in it that we can get our hands on, and have at it.
Smash 4?

I used them for a few months now, and they're still more resistant than sanwas.

I have a round 1 TE, and compared to the Kai, the TE1 has about 1 inch of extra space between the stick/buttons and the red slant.
Thanks! Do the buttons ever cause problems?

wait he's 22? what the hell then?
If he lives with them, he lives by their rules IMO.

Namco is the worst fucking company
I actually don't get the hate.

22 year old dude can go if he wants to, but if he might not want to be disrespectful like that. Assuming he has the money.

This brings up a whole other set of issues I have but eh, not the thread for that.

They are backwards morons. Haven't even bothered to announce a console release for their biggest FG franchise. Hype up a big announcement...ends up being a tournament most of the world can't enter. Huge delay in the release of TTT2. Just a long series of missteps and weird decisions.

Speaking of cross-pollination, I wonder if a fighting game "triathlon" could be a thing. Similar to the Mystery Game Tournament except the games are all known beforehand. What games would you pick to maximize breadth of the genre? How would you score such a tournament?

I'm thinking SF, Smash, and Tekken for the three representatives (with potential for a VS game and an anime game too), and round robins in each of the games. Not sure how to set up a single or double elim bracket to give equal treatment to all subgenres though.

Is Tekken enough to represent 3D, when they're all different? You potentially treat SF, Marvel and anime as separate categories, but MK and KOF are skipped?

Additionally, say Apologyman beats Aris at Smash 4. And then Leffen beats Tom Brady at KOF. Does that really prove anything?

It might be fun to watch unknown players go through this, but what makes the mystery game tournament work is that everyone's on equal standing going in.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Asked my friend about this and he says one of those Naruto clash of Ninja games for the 3D fighters lol

You know I want you to go off on this.

Aris would be so proud of me. I just ate a bacon wrapped hot dog.
We are all proud.

No they work fine, just not as fun to press as sanwas.
Thanks!

MK and KOF are similar enough to SF in my eyes, but it's a pretty monkeycheese list anyways lol

Why did you list four different players? The advantage with round robin is that you get to judge Apologyman vs Aris, Apologyman vs Leffen, Apologyman vs Tom Brady in Smash, then the same matchups again in KOF, Persona, etc. You need to do well in everything in theory.

The issue with mystery game format is that you are unable to prepare for it beforehand. By having a preset list you can see players at their best across multiple formats.

I dont remember that

You remember playing online co-op with Rog on SFxT? There was a player that hit cr.mk into Cross Arts with Mega Man and you saying "Online players just do it! There's no way he hit confirmed that!" That was me. =P

If people can prepare, it isn't a mystery game anymore.

hahaha, I don't remember that specifically but that sounds like something I would say.

I miss being the best in that game.

Sayah, so you know of any AI exploits or issues in TTT2? Ditto for anyone else that knows of one.

Example: MvC3 AI never ever blocks Foot Dive or Sentinel c.M.

Well, I'm pretty sure I did it to Rog but it was funny seeing you react to it. It's been ages though, I don't know if anyone remembers the 'What is the universe?" thing and the "Salt mines/world/universe" gag with the stream monsters.

I'm hearing some stuff about BBCF's active flow. Sounds like a bad vorpal to me since it only rewards aggression lol.

I'll have to see and hear more on it, but I'm kind of meh on the idea. Negative penalty probably still exists too.

Can you tell me all about it? Trying to figure out what stick to get before SFV. About to send my other sticks in to Amazon as a trade in to afford it.

Sure. Putting looks aside, I've always been a fan of the Vewlix layout (first two buttons closer to the stick), it's fairly easy to swap buttons out on it, and I'm a big fan of the Hayabusa lever, which I would compare to a smoother Sanwa JLF.

The Kuro buttons, on the other hand, are hit and miss for people. Some have buttons that squeak or aren't as sensitive as sanwas, or they're not clicky, etc. They did not feel as sensitive as sanwa buttons to me and I had a harder time doing certain things (like kara demon with E.Ryu), so I swapped them out... that's it, though. Perfect stick for me.

notworksafe did a pretty good analysis of it. Some of it is genuinely hard to explain.

Possible downside - examine the wrist area of it. There's not much to it. If you're used to resting your palms and wrists under the buttons on the base of the stick, this might not work out for you unless you can adjust to how it's shaped.

loke test happening already?

I said Apologyman, instead of say Zer0, because what does a low level smash 4 player beating 3 other dudes who don't even play the game, prove?
I mean, you might as well have League of Legends and add ClakeyD and Marn as players.
