Giant Bombcast - 08/18/2009

Am I the only one wondering wtf happened in Germany?

It's a joke, GB have said in the past that they can only go to so many events a year and given that most of the demos at gamescon in the past were merely E3 demos they decided to skip it.

HAY GUISE. Ryan Davis here, just felt it necessary to address something here. Turns out my GAF account was approved ages ago, so I'm not sure why I received a rejection notice recently, though it probably has something to do with me forgetting this account existed and trying to create another. What can I say, I'm a freakin' Internet genius!

Anyways, I would like to redact my incendiary Twitter comments about the GAF account approval process, and thank all of you for listening to the Bombcast! YOUR DREAMS AND SEXUALLY EXPLICIT ANONYMOUS EMAIL MAKE THIS ALL POSSIBLE.

Lol.

Now that we have Ryan, where is Vinny? :(

Keep up the awesome work Ryan. The bombcast makes my sexually explicit dreams possible!

I'm actually comfortable with a giant rock named Dwayne Johnson destroying life on Earth. And it would be a wonderful game premise.

a) Yay Ryan.

b) Holy fuck, I don't want to play Brutal Legend anymore. I actually had to "rewind" the podcast to make sure that they were still talking about Brutal Legend. I have no idea what that game is supposed to be anymore.

Can someone post an iTunes link to the bombcast? I'm sure someone said they grabbed it from iTunes earlier. It's not showing on my phones iTunes here at work.

^
That's how I grabbed it, but I don't know where to get the link though.

Don't listen to their blah blah. They were talking about the MP and dumbly at that.

Didn't they say that SP is basically that as well?

Bombcast! Ryan!

Managed to listen to the first hour on the bus to work... keep up the Fallout 3 discussion, I've only just started my first playthrough... Brad, you said you would start when Vinny was done, he's done. Keep the dream alive.

The two are separate, but they certainly didn't do a great job being clear.

I've seen like, 100-150 minutes of BL and it is nothing like what they described. The single player experience I mean. The multi is a whole different monster and is definitely geared towards the hardcore crowd whereas the single is Tim Shaferian weirdness and more fit for a broad/casual audience.

Single = Jak 3 meets God of War
Multi = Single Experience Mixed with RTS

Do a quick look of the Lost Planet 2 demo :D.

And here I thought Brutal Legend was merely Tim Schafer's attempt at a Zelda game...

Good thing I dig on Pikmin and Overlord I guess.

Get BENT!...You too Senpai! :lol

All I hear now is Vinny's voice and getting bent, I seriously need to stop watching the endurance run.

This show has become my favorite series to watch:

1. House
2. Endurance Run
3. Dexter

I can't believe I'm matching ER with TV shows.

No... NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! No more Fallout 3 talk, just like Bethesda be done with it. I would like no more wasteland talk now that there is no new content being done.

I'm surprised at the lack of Trials HD talk. I would have thought it would have hit Jeff's competitive nerve with the Leaderboard integration. He was a bit down on it in the Quick look too, and no review yet either :(

There are more than double the people who have played Trials HD than Madden 10 on GiantBomb :P

You've seen a different 100 minutes of the game than I have, then. EA has shown off story missions in the single-player game that revolve around the exact same RTS-esque gameplay the multiplayer is based on. Sure, there's plenty of other stuff in there (collection, races, humor), but if you think the BL story mode is just an open world with God of War hack and slash, you're wrong.

Right but I think listening the podcast, it gives people the impression that the game on the whole is some clunky, burdensome RTS game.
Granted you cats have probably (obviously) seen more of the game than me, but I just don't think that it's the best comparison in the world.

That's like saying that Mass Effect is a RTS because you direct your squad and give out attack orders.
The online portion of the game however would fit into that category much better, but I don't think it's an accurate summation of the single player to say it has an RTS foundation.

I'm not trying to be an ass, but yeah.
If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, I'm fine with that, but the way you guys were talking it just seems to be an incomplete description and turns people off.

woo. gotta give dap for the O.G. metroid lovin'. But then again, hating on Brutal Legend is foul play. >:(

good show as always

The discussion about Rage being Carmack's manual on how to survive the incoming asteroid fueled apocalypse, while he lives it up with his trusty rocket on the moon was hilarious :lol

Can't believe I haven't heard or read someone connect the dots like that before this. It just makes too much sense not to be true.

The best quote of that discussion goes to Ryan

"I do not want to live on John Carmek's Mars, let me make that very, very clear."

Also the whole Gearbox talk was hilarious.

hey Ryan, thanks for reading my emails on the show. i love you for not ignoring me. ;) keep up the good work!

I seem to recall Tim himself saying that the MP of Brutal Legend actually came first, and the SP serves more as a really long ass tutorial for the MP, as every level introduces a new element of the MP for you to learn and play around with.

Something like that. So it seems if you don't like the MP you probably won't like to game itself...perhaps? I dunno. I haven't listened to the podcast yet so I'm unsure of their impressions, but I heard mostly everyone talking high praise for the game and it's multiplayer

It's nice to know that I'm not the only person who has had their interest in Brutal Legend become almost nonexistent.

The Carmack talk had me laughing way too loud at work.
