Fighting Games Weekly | July 13-19 | Stream Monster Yearly: Evolution 2015

It's for the new characters after the initial 16 character roster

Well if thats the case, then I'm fine with it. I'm not a fan of hots/lol weekly free characters. It gets boring quick. Awful for competitive play. It would be even worse in a fighting game.

Haunts is a homie. I was doing the SRK live blog for the panel :D hope it was okay.

Last chance to suggest questions for Peter and Matt :D

at like 11am too

Something I noticed is that after Smash was added to EVO the thread sizes stayed around the same but the majority of the posts turned into ones about Smash, seems like it might be the same this year.

No judgment, EVO/fighting game love is love, it's just interesting. I think stream schedules accommodating Smash all the time is a big part of that.

oooooooooooooooh, thanks.

But damn, so characters have a whole 'nother set of normals for rising out of a crouch?

Well not like 20 moves or anything, but yeah. Punishing stuff from a crouch is different than from standing. You -can- hopkick directly from crouch though, just by doing u/f+3 or 4 or whatever it is for your character.

So there's also sometimes different mixups from crouch, so you can fool people by ducking for a bit. Risky though. Could get launched for it right there.

Got to add to the Catherine love: was pleasantly surprised at how watchable it was and understanding how it worked wasn't all that hard either :3

I ain't one to hide my love for melee, but personally, before Evo started holding smash I was way more SF4/Marvel eye focused for Evo, that said in terms of player storylines both of those seem to be going in an absolute stasis, with other caveats like me disliking SF4 systems and Disney killing MvC and its population. So yeah, especially recently, there's the leffen and demi god uprising in smash to watch, and really I'm only interested in the very top brackets of the other games besides like Clockwork. (I really want to watch Xrd as well, but I literally know zero players in that to root for, and commentators are really hit and miss for me in past tournaments.)

Catherine is pretty up there in hype, realistically speaking though, was during a bit of a calm before the storm.

No I think the 16 players are made free but the new characters you get via DLC you can grind to unlock or just pay to unlock.

Not that there won't be mirror matches in the first month... I mean it's fucking SF there will be Ryus and Kens online.

I will be trying out Ryu and Ken first, that's for sure lol. 09'er here and all I know so far are shotos

Smash being bigger and more appealing than the fgc isn't new I guess. Genuinely jealous of their scene at times, although the games don't do much for me.

oh yea. If nintendo actually tried harder, smash would overshadow the FGC. although I feel Street Fighter by itself can compete but it still has a lot of stigma behind it as a game to casuals..

I only played shoto's for over 20 years. The first time I picked up a non shoto was Yun from 2 years ago. And I never really invested a lot of time into him until this year.

With no Yun in sight it looks like I'm back to only playing Shoto's again. Maybe I'll learn another character later but it's going to be Ken and Ryu to start out with.

Not about big/small, just kind of pointing out the other game/stream discussion lessens instead of being additive.

Constant number of GAF viewers. Different streams being focused on.

Also, a lot of Smash regulars are using the OTs for discussion.

Anyone know why ZeroTheShadow got banned and how long is he banned for?

Need to settle a bet but can't get in contact with him because he's banned...

If you are reading this ZeroTheShadow... my Paypal is daniyal.hameed88@gmail.com.
Betting ZTS?

His contract with Madcatz is up, decided to do something else.

RIP Madcatz. Hopefully he is going to Namco and can fix them up.

With other games you can at least shit on them...but the Smash army is just too strong and dedicated. I think it is best to stay away and leave them to enjoy it.
