Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to PC Early 2016. PS4 Holiday 2016

Square will launch this game, probably a good game, on only the second place platform in a packed holiday season, day and date with Fallout 4, where it will get crushed.

Then, they will wait a year to launch on the leading platform and will still charge $60 for it anyway, again releasing in a packed holiday season. Less Ps4 owners will care at this point, or if they do care they will generally buy the game later at a cheaper price because at the moment they are focused on the Holiday 2016 releases.

Square will call the game a disappointment in sales, even though it is entirely their own fault through a series of fucking stupid decisions. Unless the check from Microsoft really is THAT big.

Book it.

Surprised they said anything before the game was released on X1/360. That is not too long of a wait for the PC version, hopefully there are not too many spoilers around in the interim.

With fallout, doom and a lot more interesting stuff coming out in the timeframe for the PC and PS4 version square can go F themselves cause I ain't getting that thing for $60.

Uncharted is Spring. The longer they wait (if it was truly up to them), the worse position they will be in on the PS4 due to pricing.

They could have launched it Summer or Fall the latest and still avoided Uncharted. This is definitely a paid exclusivity length to be a whole year out, not an Uncharted reactive choice.

Exactly. This has nothing to do with Uncharted. It seems pretty clear that MS locked in a console exclusivity deal that lasts an entire year.

I'm probably just drawing blanks, but how often did we see games being bundled with demoes from different genres, e.g. an adventure game with an included jrpg demo?

So, basically timed exclusives make perfect sense for Sony but are ridiculous and unfair when MS pursues them. Ok, got it. If only they had an event in the Olympics for mental gymnastics, we'd have ourselves a sure-fire gold medal winner!

It makes more sense in that Playstation has a userbase that is more receptive to these kinds of games, just like how it made sense for Bioware RPG's and things like Bioshock to be Xbox only, even if timed.

Welp...300 to 10 really is a big gap.

And some people still try to use the "b-but the port will pay by itself.." excuse.

No..it won't.

It's also just dependent on where you live.

The GameStop I help out in is much different. Granted it's one store, but PS4 XV last I saw has mid 30's and xb1 has mid 20's. I didn't check on Kingdom Hearts though.

The only reason the PS4 version is delayed a year is because Phil Spencer paid for it to be. I don't see how only PS4 owners could still support CD after making a deal like this.

I hate when companies buy time like this. Whether content or game releases. It's stupid and fans suffer for this. I'm glad that they finally said something about other platforms. This practice really needs to stop.

Unless ps4 has exclusive classic hot pants costume........

If that happens i will buy it in heartbeat. But then again eidos is not that smart.

I wonder what the politics are of announcing this now.

Did something change? Did they add another 6 months, but then decided to make it public because of $ term changes? You would think with an exclusive contract, there would be terms about keeping the details silent?

Is this to pump up Windows 10?

It seems weird to give out a PR statement of launch time info so far ahead of schedule.

I've listed the many reasons in my other posts about why there is no evidence of any large FF fan base on the XBO, if you have any counter arguments then lay them out. Your statement above is basically meaningless.

You got a response already. There are lots of FF fans on Xbox. They are just a better breed of FF fans than the PS4 ones because they knew to steer clear of the pure garbage that is Type-0 despite their fandom.

Sounds reasonable.

That western as fuck game Ryse though that reviewed terribly? Nope Xbox fans couldn't resist that.

Xbox Japanese game fans have better taste than western game fans confirmed.

Why does everyone think the PS4 will have DLC included ?

Why should SE give you all the DLC for free when they could also charge for them.

They probably think a year is too long to wait for most people. 6 months is one thing, a whole year is another. Capitalizing on typical consumer impatience.

In this case consumer has lots of other choices to squander impatience.

Releasing this same month as fallout4 is stupid stupid move.

Well... we had very successful "space mech game + tactical stealth game" combo. But that was with Kojima, hype around MGS2 was through the roof.

Maybe Square will soon release their financial report for calendar Q2 [April-June], and they need some news cleared out so that there will be less stock fluctuations.

I've been saying that all the time, but everybody kept telling me, "no it'll come to PS4 in less than 6 month", now we finally have the official announcement.
I'll play it day one on Xbox One and then i'll replay it on PC in 2016 hoping in new effects and features.

In terms of marketing this game has been horrible. From the reveal, and the partnership with Microsoft. Now they release on the same day as Fallout 4 and next year they are trying to jam the game in the Holiday season. Dont really think that people are going to buy a year old game when there are so many great games coming out.

Have you ever seen November and December NPDs. Tons of games release, and tons of games sell well. There's a reason the Holiday seasons are stacked with releases. Publishers aren't releasing these things in October, November and December without a reason.
Yeah, I've seen them. It's also not just Oct./Nov./Dec. games that chart. Some of the big yearlong sellers are going to be on those sales charts too.

Last year's December NPD Top 10 had COD, GTAV, Madden, Smash, NBA, Minecraft, Far Cry 4, Just Dance, Destiny and FIFA.

You can expect the same to happen again. So not only will the game be competing against Rock Band 4, Halo 5, Rainbow Six Siege, Guitar Hero Live, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Just Dance 2016, Need for Speed, Black Ops III, Fallout 4, Battlefront, XCOM 2, Just Cause 3, Hitman and potentially No Man's Sky, Persona 5 and Fable Legends, it'll also be competing against big sellers like FIFA, Madden and NBA.

I'm not guaranteeing that it's going to do poorly, but I also don't think that it's getting the best chance to shine by releasing at the time it's releasing.

The only reason the PS4 version is delayed a year is because Phil Spencer paid for it to be. I don't see how only PS4 owners could still support CD after making a deal like this.

The only reason Call of Duty gets DLC first on PS4 is because Sony paid for it, the only reason MS gets MOD support first in Fallout 4 is because they paid for it, the only reason Saturn didn't get Tomb Raider 2 is because Sony Paid for it... we can keep going for hundreds of games. This is common stuff in this industry.

lol ok

You realize it's entirely possible Tomb Raider (2013) sold more copies on 360 than PS3, right? I'm not sure we have an official breakdown, but the game sold very well on Xbox 360 and most third party titles sold more copies on Xbox last generation.

A game like Tomb Raider is the type of title Xbox players are more than fine paying money for.

Now, if you're referring to PS owners being more receptive to a game like FF...yeah, probably. But that doesn't change the fact that these deals are very, very similar. Sony clearly made a deal with SE to keep FFVII off of XB1 for a period of exclusivity. I personally couldn't care less...it's business. These things have never bothered me.

Why does everyone think the PS4 will have DLC included ?

Why should SE give you all the DLC for free when they could also charge for them.

Because they'd have a way better chance of people actually buying the game if they gave the illusion that DLC would be worth something.

lol ok

Pretty sure most of Tomb Raider's sales were in Europe which skewed heavily towards PS3.

But tomb raider fans are mostly on playstation because Sony did this exact thing themselves. Tomb raider one was on the Saturn, Sony paid to keep it off the Saturn and it later came to PC. You're fine with them doing this once, but not twice?
.

Will get it for PC in Early 16 then.

But you really have to wonder if Squeenix really is thinking that this game will even remotely sell enough one year later (Holiday even, when all the "new" games hit) that they will end up making the same or more money (inclusive the one from Microsoft) that they would have made without this deal.

Not a chance in my opinion. This (then old) game will be a sidenote on PS4 holiday 2016.
And i'm not even talking about the brand damage they have already done to the long time fans (who are mostly on Playstation and PC)

Hope we are soon done with this exclusive 3rd party bs. (From Sony and Microsoft)

Not happy about that. I'm hoping the year makes it less relevant at release time, because I wouldn't like to support it, but I'll end up buying it knowing me.

A year is a long time graphically.

This is how the industry works my friend. Everyone pays for exclusive stuff to get an edge.

You start boycotting one company you're going to end up boycotting all of them.

Why does everyone think the PS4 will have DLC included ?

Why should SE give you all the DLC for free when they could also charge for them.

Because no one is going to buy a game that is a year old for full price unless there is some hook to it.

By the time this release on ps4, xbone version will be $9.99 or lower.

How else you going to convince consumers to buy the same exact game?

LOL. Thanks, I missed that one.

Because releasing a game a year late at full price without any incentive will be a hard sell.

Edit: lol, the post above me speaks wisdom.

Guess they don't want to sell many copies of the game to PS4 owners then. Their loss. Why even bother making it at all if it's coming out at such an irrelevant time?
