He's 8th in the NFL in Total QBR. Above Rivers, Flacco, Luck, and Eli.
i'm sure he met the minimum passes to be qualified

I agree completely. I think this contract is the first step into the abyss of mediocrity. You can't give 1/6th of your entire salary cap to one dude and expect to be as strong at every position as you have been in the past... unless you're the best drafters in the history of drafting...
They have drafted very well and no doubt that is part of what they are going to rationalize as their answer.I agree completely. I think this contract is the first step into the abyss of mediocrity. Graham was a necessary casualty of exactly what I just talked about. We tied up a ton of money in a handful of guys and it has hamstrung our flexibility ever since.
What made our Super Bowl run work so well was we get elite performances out of a bunch of people but didn't pay elite dollars.
Now Seattle is slowly getting to the point a lot of winning franchises get where they are dishing out elite money for non-elite talent and will have to slowly hack away to make things work.
As another poster said, what made Seattle so deadly is they could afford all this elite defensive talent and an elite running back because they didn't have to pay for their good quarterback. Now they are overpaying for their quarterback and it will come at the cost of other areas of the team.
No salt, I have a ton of respect for Seattle but I can't hide my excitement that they are taking the first step toward taking a step back.
Wilson pretty much has all the leverage here. In today's nfl even having a decent qb that can just not lose is worth a lot
If Seattle won't, half the league will be happy to oblige.
A huge contract would make it tough to resign some of their other players in line for a payday(Hello Wagner. Tough position to be in.
The Seahawks have proved something these last few years. You don't need a great Quarterback if you surround him with better players. I say ditch him and get a $10 teeball stand for Lynch.
I get the feeling Wilson wanting more money is going to come back to bite him. Either he's going to get injured or have a bad season and he'll never see that $21 million/year offer again.
Not to mention that by paying him that much or more per year is going to make his team worse because they'll have a harder time signing other players. Since he's on a rookie deal right now, they can spend a lot of money on that Defense that they couldn't if Wilson is taking up a huge chunk of the Salary Cap.
If Joe Flacco can get 120M over 6 then Wilson should hold out for more. Joe fucking Flacco the guy who people keep on saying will be elite one day. He is 30 and is not going to be an elite QB.
Pay the man.
Half the league might be an exaggeration, but there are going to be a bunch of teams bidding for his services. Shit there are two in the AFC East that would kill to have him. He would immediately improve the Jets and Bills. Both have good defenses. There are probably 10 teams right now that could use him at QB, and that isn't an exaggeration.I don't think "half the league" is that stupid. They all watch tape on him, they know his weaknesses as well as everyone else.
The Seahawks will also learn another lesson if they let him go. Reliable quarterbacks are hard to come by. They are playing a very dangerous game if they don't sign him. The days where just an elite defense is enough to win the super bowl is over. The Seahawks have proved something these last few years. You don't need a great Quarterback if you surround him with better players.
He's a good QB, but he's not a top tier one.
That was a good throw, just better defense.![]()
$21 million baby!
That was a good throw, just better defense.
FMT is right look at what his 49ers did by paying Kap. Look at the team now.
He should go play baseball. Save his body and make money.
half the league wouldn't pay wussle $25 mil (or whatever he's looking for) per year because half the league doesn't have seattles defense or running game.
i think he is vastly underpaid, just as a ton of productive rookies are, but he is nowhere near elite. i wouldn't put him as a top 10 QB in the league but he is good for the style seattle plays so he is definitely a top 5 QB FOR SEATTLE. their pass blocking is so awful they need a QB like wussle back there. so while i think a guy like flacco or eli are better than wussle, i don't think they'd fit as well in seattle as wuss does. still, you replace wussle with a ton of QB's in the league (and im talking starters and some backups) and seattle is still a playoff team. you put wussle on the jags (for instance) do they really improve much? highly doubt it.
ultimately i hope seattle pays the fuck out of him. i hope he gets the $25 mil per year or even more! first off as others have said it will make seattle a worse team but secondly fuck these owners. dumb motherfuckers make cash hand over fist off these players and i don't think the players are paid their fair share considering what they bring in
Um he's the most underpaid QB in the league and easily one of the best. Dunno if he's worth 21M a year but you can't dismiss him.
seahawks would kill for wussle to take a team friendly deal like kap did but he's not a team player like kap is
I don't think "half the league" is that stupid. They all watch tape on him, they know his weaknesses as well as everyone else.
His MLB rights are owned by the Rangers now right? The thing is he could make significantly more guaranteed money playing baseball than football.
he's got tattoos and backwards caps won't ever be a leader. probably doesn't even know what scriptures are etched in his back either
he's probably going to blow all on money cars clothes and hoes. what do you know about that fmt
Doubtful. Wilson is really in the perfect situation in Seattle. Great run game/o-line, great defense. How many teams can replicate or at least come close to that environment? I'm not sure he can walk into a situation and be an Aaron Rodgers type QB.who can do everything, plus not require high draft picks spent on offensive weapons. If Seattle won't, half the league will be happy to oblige.

Teams that would sign him right now for $20-$22 million if they could:
Philadelphia, Washington, San Francisco, St. Louis, Chicago, Minnesota, Buffalo, Miami, NY Jets, Kansas City, Oakland, Cleveland, Houston, Jacksonville.
Tampa Bay and Tennessee would have paid him that if they hadn't drafted a QB this year, and if either QB tanks would be willing to pay it next year.
That makes 16 teams, and literally half the league.
The pass was fine. Butler just made an insane jump inside to get it.it's not a bad throw but it's not the type of throw an elite QB makes
lolollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
none of those teams would pay wussle $20-$22 mil right now for a variety of reasons (either they are already paying a QB lots of money or the QB they have is better than/equal to wussle or a combo of both)

I've seen elite QBs make the exact same throw, it's just that this time some no-name guy who practiced this exact route the week before made the play of his life.
Part of "if they could" is if they could dump the QB they're paying right now without a salary cap hit.

It's not half, but there is a good size of teams that would be bidding for him. The Jets and Bills to me seem like no brainers. Of course this is assuming they have the cap space. Really all you need is a couple of teams to drive up the price. Jets could do that all by themselves quite easily. If Russel goes out and has a good season there will be several teams bidding for his services. Even if he goes out and does what he has been doing there are still going to be teams bidding for his services.
i bolded the teams previously
Minnesota would absolutely dump Bridgewater for Wilson. Not that they're going to for any number of reasons, but if they had the opportunity to, they would.
here are the teams that i think would make a big offer to wuss:
bills
jets
browns
texans
eagles
bears (assuming cutlers contract was off the books/cap)
cardinals (assuming palmers contract was off the books)
rams
so 1/4th of the league

Honestly don't even need that many. Just need like two or three. Shit I've seen the Red Sox bid against themselves for a player on the whispers that the Yankees were interested. If one team offers him funny money it puts the Seahawks in a really tough spot. It's an interesting situation. Of those teams the Bills scare me the most. The coaching sucks balls, but that defense is insane. With just a solid qb they would be terrifying to play against.
