So, I have an activated Windows 8.1 pro and did the force download thing, will it ask me for any keys or anything when I'm going through the update stage ?

No, if it does ask, then somethings gone wrong.
Did this get linked/talked about yet?

Things that you are able to turn off, but how many people even know about it. Should be off by default imho.
Ugh:
And:
Windows 7 or 8 key has nothing to do with windows 10.Just did a full clean install of Win 10 Pro using the the usb key created with the MS Tool. The machine is a Lenovo Thinkpad T410 that came with Win 7 Pro.
For some reason when I enter the product key from the Windows 7 Pro sticker, Windows 10 says it's not a valid key. What gives?
So my guessing its already live in Western Europe, in particular Ireland and U.K?
I wonder what exactly triggers the update to take hold and download? Still a reservation box for me, with clicking the check for updates doing nothing...
WIndows 10 Upgrade icon refuses to show up for me, must be because my 8.1 came from Dreamspark. Tried all the fixes I could to make it appear, but it won't. Giving up for now before I start to get frustrated.
Yes, it can be touch and go. I recommend a full 353.62 install, using the clean install option.

How to force the update:
1. Go into "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and delete everything in that folder, but not the folder itself.
2. Now, run a command prompt as an administrator. Type in "wuauclt.exe /updatenow" with no quotes.
3. Wait a minute, and watch the folder you just emptied. It should start to have files show up.
4. Go to your Control Panel > Windows Update and your Windows 10 should start downloading. Once that is completed, you will be prompted to begin the installation process*
*may not work in territories where W10 is not released
Hope that helps
i can already tell i am going to use a lot more metro/modern apps. Allowing them to be in Windows helps a lot. I had the VLC metro and VLC Desktop app installed. Uninstalled the VLC Desktop app, prefer the modern one now.

If you have no icon, no reservation, or are tired of waiting, try the force method.
Some people have reported that it takes multiple tries. Also, give the updater some time. It's not instant.
Does anyone else have a white line next to the date and time on taskbar? Not sure what it i or how to remove it.

I simply used the media upgrade tool, over and done with.
The far right of the date and time is actually a button that you can use to quickly get back to the desktop.

Skype remains as slow and sluggish as before. Why did they ruin that software so much.

Thats what im trying, its just telling me to inset recovery media. Which of course i don't have cos i did the update through windows update.
Will it ask for a key if your doing a clean install from the iso or does it look at the existing partition first to see what version your eligible for?

Its been there for a whileAhh, still seems an odd place for a button. Wish I could get rid of it to be honest. Hopefully in another update.

You need to create a recovery USB/DVD

It does ask for a key. Do a upgrade, note down the generic key it gives you when you're booted in and then just do the reset in Windows 10 if you want to do it clean. Easiest way.
Lastpass doesn't work with Edge.
Also, is there a way for Edge to clear browsing history and its cache upon closing? Internet Explorer 11 and Firefox have this.
You can completely skip the CD key step, its not relevant for people who upgraded and have an associated windows 10 activation. You need to create a recovery USB/DVD

Microsoft is giving everyone the same keys dependent on version of Windows 10, they don't show it to you. It is hidden in the system and can be found, but it is not needed.Hmmm, I got no "generic key" after upgrading.
Run Windows update normally, install everything it lists. Then attempt it again. It shouldn't have done anything like you described. It's possible it's not passing the 'ready' check.

Why is MS trying so hard to kill the classic Control Panel? Sigh.
Win10 upgrade much smoother than expected though. I was honestly surprised.
Nvidia needs to fix their drivers though. What a shitshow in 4K desktop resolution.
