Toucher and Rich know nothing about sports, or much of anything else. They just have a fat Mexican guy they talk about constantly, which they used to do on their old ride-home show on WBCN.
Yea, they are funny as hell, that's why I listen to them.
If he was guilty I'm sure he would just have admitted that. No one would have thought less of him because a lot of QBs admit they like the ball a certain way. It's a matter of principle: he didn't ask anyone to deflate the balls, and the NFL said he did. He knows he didn't. So he isn't going to admit to something he didn't do.
I very rarely listen to Boston sports radio anymore (mostly because I don't have a car) and I'm much better off for it, I think. I did tune in a bit this morning though.
Why would Mortensen refuse to go on the show only to give up his source off-air? I don't get how that makes any sense.

Yeah - I call BS on the Tensil stuff. No way Mort would ever tell some random DJ his source but then refuse to go on air. WEEI is full blown homer; and they're pretty full of it (I think Deadspin has a specific tag for them at this point) on a regular basis.
They also routinely act as their local sports team conduit to smear people on the way out (Red Sox) or who they don't like (Patriots) - so this is most probably someone from the Patriots going after Tensil and WEEI claiming it was Mort.

Mortensen didn't deny it, which is something someone in his position would instantly do.
Haha I like that. =DThis has been a rumor for a while....
I say it is more probable than not
2 NFL owners told me they're unhappy w/ $$$ being spent on Brady case & the treatment of Brady. Said molehill has been made into a mountain.
D&C aren't homers. They are probably the most partial to the sports industry on the network.
That is misinformed. They don't usually do this. Smearing in the Herald/Globe, absolutely.
Well never know. Mort was supposed to appear on Dennis & Callahan this morning, but backed out when he discovered that the hosts were repeatedly teasing his appearance by promising he would address his false report. Via PFT, heres what he told WEEI:
You guys made a mistake by drumming up business for the show and how I would address my reporting for the first time, Mortensen informed WEEI. I will not allow WEEI, Kraft, or anybody to make me the centerpiece of a story that has been misreported far beyond anything I did in the first 48 hours. Maybe when the lawsuit is settled, in Bradys favor, I hope, we can revisit. Dont call.

Didn't they smear-hit AJ Pierz on the way out? Also - I vaguely remember Simmons unloading on WEEI for WEEI taking shots at Simmons for not doing an interview with them - so WEEI might be known for going after (dishonestly if the Simmons interview is any indication) folks who don't do interviews with them. I mean; hell, Mort even pointed out that they had advertised he was going to talk about who his source was without even telling Mort. From PFT / Deadspin
Wondering if he feels by denying it he would open himself up to being asked about it over and over again. (Also, no one's asked him directly if Kensil was his source).
Or if he denies it, then eventually comes out that it's true and he turns into a liar!
It's funny how he doesn't want to be the counterpeice when his reporting was so fucking wrong and created the shit storm to begin with.
The shit-storm wasn't really about Mort's tweets. The emphatic denial and then the Wells report is what created the shitstorm (also, its July and there's nothing else really going on in sports as well). Pats fans are trying to blame Mort because its one of the things that is known to be objectively wrong, thus trying to say "well this wrong thing was part of it, so we're going to attribute it entirely to that one wrong thing and then claim that it should all go away".
The NFL and Brady are going to end up coming to a compromise primarily because the judge in the case basically told them to do so.

Which was because the initial reports were so fucking insane and turned out to be false. The Patriots based everything off the initial report given to them, if you want to play the game and restart it with the actual info and real readings, I'm absolutely positive the Pats would have simply admitted some guilt and moved on.
They were fed bullshit and forced to go on the extreme defense, they were played.
Judges always tell people to try and settle the issue amongst themselves. It likely won't happen in this case, and rumors about NFL officials feeding the media false info will help ensure that.
WEEI is largely an outlet for the sports writers. So, they give the venue (as they should) and the story breaks a bit quicker. The Pierzynski smearing was a bit odd, as he really hadn't done much, or was notable to the team. Based on his history, probably some accuracy there.
Historically, Boston smearing is for loved icons on their way out the door. Mostly Red Sox.
Except they had the option post Ted Wells report of accepting some guilt and moving on. I think Brady tripling down or whatever has a) pissed off the NFL immensely and b) plays up to this new "prima donna" narrative that he has somehow cultivated in the last few years.
I thought Trump only liked heroes who didn't get caught?
Oh, after Brady has been thrown to the sharks and his legacy has put through the mud?
Face it, whoever leaked that initial report knew exactly what was going to happen, it would force an automatic defense that creates a point of no return, no matter how innocent or guilty.
Or they could have said "our bad, we were keeping the balls at the lower end because that's the way we like them, and it dropped a little too low a couple of times. Tom asked the ball guys to keep it at the low end and they do that; but due to imprecise instrumentation a couple went too low".
The end.
One of my co-workers is from Boston and his quote was "rational people don't trust WEEI". Plus; considering this entire thing has been a giant "quick, everyone rush to conclusions!!!" cluster; maybe we should stop rushing to conclusions? Also, what the heck is with the entire "smear people on the way out" thing that you all have going on?? Someone explain that to me?
Not HBO anymore, is it?
NFL-Network show now, as far as I know.
I've been watching previous seasons on the NFL Now app on Apple TV.
The downside is all of the profanity is bleeped out. Can't even tell what Rex Ryan is saying half the time in the 2010 season.

There has been a discussion around Goodell's standing with owners with many feeling that as long as the league is making money that Goodell is safe, though if the NFL lose this case i do wonder how much longer Goodell will be around for.
So one of them is Kraft. Who is the other owner?
Does that mean that 30 owners are not-unhappy with the situation?

Q: A few years ago you said you liked the ball deflated. You were quoted saying you like throwing a deflated ball. Explain that comment in the context of what you’re dealing with this week.
TB: I obviously read that I said that. I like them at the way that I like them, which is at 12.5. To me, that’s a perfect grip for the football. I think that particular term, deflated or inflated, whatever norm you’re using, you could probably use. I would never do anything outside of the rules of play. I would never have someone do something that I thought was outside the rules.
Mornings: D&C
Mid-Day: ...hate everyone right now.
Afternoon: Dale and Holley.
It's not that Felger has different opinions, he is just bait and switch. Mazz used to be a bit more diverse, like mentioned he just regurgitates whatever Felger is saying.
I can't even listen to The Sports Hub, it's intollerable. They went from just trying to drum up callers to seemingly simply trolling everyone. I still have EEI so I won't go back to it.
The best football coverage is by NFL Around the League on the three-times-a-week podcast.. And FYI, they all think the league is crazy (but still like to torment the lone Patriot's fan on the show). They've all been shocked at every development in this story, and Chris Wesseling -- an NFL agnostic fan -- has gone on absolute tears about the whole thing every other show. It's been a joy to listen to as a Patriot's fan. Felger and Mazz are so far to the extreme they're beyond every other national program... Like they're more extreme than the guys in New York and Indy.
Sounds like both sides are looking to make a deal now without the judge's involvement.
The NFL got what they wanted with the case being in NY, but they got a judge appointed by Bill Clinton. They have incentive to deal now.
What does a "no suspension and a four-game fine" even mean in this context?

I thought the Judge only has the authority to rule on whether or not the NFL has the authority to do what they did? A federal judge has the authority to say "reduce the punishment"?
Perhaps they will dock Brady's salary but still let him play - it's not like he plays for money now.
Brady plays all four games without pay

Brady and his wife have $500m between them. Four games without pay basically a zero punishment.
I am no legal scholar by any stretch of the imagination but the Judge may sense the NFLPA has a good case and is strong arming the NFL to comprise. Perhaps someone with a better understanding of inner-legal-wrangling could explain.

punishments don't scale based on what your spouse makes or what you make outside of the NFL, that would be ridiculous.
Well, they seem to believe the Judge will rule You can take no suspension and a four-game fine, or youll get no suspension and no fine. "
I think the Judge thinks this entire thing is asinine and should stop being played out in public. Most legal folks tend to think that the NFL has a pretty strong legal hand here because of the CBA (whether they're overreacting is a different story entirely); I suspect the judge is more bemused by the whole spectacle and thinks they try ACTUALLY negotiating with each other rather than doing it in public.
I think now that we're getting closer to games starting, the NFL and NFLPA knows that it is in everyone's best interest to compromise (2 games is what I imagine will end up being); and getting on with the games.
Wow - those emails with Jeff Pash where they refuse to address the erroneous leaks are really....something.
