The International 2015 | Dota 2 Championships : Presented by Valve | July 26-Aug 8

the time constraints are pretty important by themselves. main event already runs for 6 days, making the first round in losers bo3 would probably add another day.

On top of all that, I think the prize pool incentive and the advantages of coming out in Winner's is a great way to encourage good play. I mean look at the wild card entrants like CoL. They are really showing that those qualifiers were a good idea.

So what do y'all think of Merlini's point yesterday that a team that has more 2-0s and 1-1s than 2-0s and 0-2s might have a better shot? He said that adapting to strats and getting ties might be a better indicator of success than a team that only either stomps or gets stomped.

when do the main stage games begin? The 3rd, right?

Also I didnt get to watch every game this week (work) but are there any lower bracket teams that did well, just not as well as the top 4?

like, any 1 loss teams that just didnt score as many points or tied too much?

curious

all you people burying navi gonna be real stunned when they end up in the quarter finals

Any idea why they don't play any games on the weekend? It's when most people would at least be able to watch...unlike during the week.

yeah this is weird. it's better that they have the finals on saturday instead of monday but it probably should have been a tuesday through sunday main event.

might have been a scheduling thing for the arena though, events of this scale are really tough to plan.

adaptability is the name of the game at these things. look at DAC or past TIs (other than TI3). the winners didn't do as well right away but were able to adapt and counter picks and strategies.

alliance is the only winner of a TI-scale LAN that just dominated the whole thing. even in TI2 when IG stomped the group stage they got sent into the losers bracket during playoffs.

No games today :(?

None until Monday. The rest of the games are played in front of a live crowd as well.

Thanks a lot for the info. This is the first time I got into such a tournament.

Dang, will be traveling from Sunday on. Hopefully I will be able to avoid spoilers.

Most likely that, and also to give the players a weekend to have fun in Seattle I'd hope.

I have a smash tournament on Friday and a birthday party on Saturday. I'll probably be glued to my phone for most of the weekend.

I think that diagram is wrong. The LB Finals are also scheduled for Saturday:

Yeah but you're already starting in losers as it is?
That's incentive, yes. However, you want the group stage to have as much meaning as possible without being terribly punishing. Don't like the chances of those BO1s? Then you should have played better in the group stage.

Personally, I'm not even a big fan of every team making the cut to the main event, as it removes a bunch of the tension from the group stage. I think I'm in the minority on that, though.

I agree

and then there would be no BO1s

Prediction time boys!

Winners

EG
- COL
CDEC - C9
LGD - Empire
Secret - EHOME

Losers

MVPP - Newbee
Vici - Navi
IG - MVPH
Fnatic - VP

I'll take those picks. Losers are Best of 1 for a few rounds, right? I'll take MVP with a crazy pocket Warlock pick to win. Fnatic because Mushi won't let his team down again. Not in the very first elimination game. The rest will go as expected.

They did the alternate option last year and eliminated people which in my opinion takes out some of the drama. Could you have imagined how hype KeyArena would have been with Liquid playing LGD? I just think keeping teams around makes it more interesting and everyone is able to actually see their favorite team compete on the main stage
unless you liked one of the play in teams
. Honestly if you didn't like the group stages you could have ignored them and then just watched the main event.

They could just have the group stage in the same location as the main event...or find a separate venue for the group stages where fans can attend.

Went to the event last year and it was very disappointing that some teams you went to go watch were already eliminated by then. I prefer this method. The BO1 adds great drama to the first round of Lower Bracket games ala Liquid/LGD.

Yep, nerfing heroes will do that.

Except Kunnka, he has only got buffs but still isn't picked. Its sad

most of those heroes didnt really get nerfed though, they are all arguably viable they just aren't in the meta, yet. except for terrorblade.

also its mostly carrys with the current patch rewarding fighting more than farming

^^

The current patch was a de facto nerf to all carries and heroes that need to farm creeps in general.

Of the non hard carries on that list, Necro is shit cause of glimmer cape, Elder Titan was only ever picked up as a counter to specific hard carries(mostly morphling), and then you have 3 greedier supports that are just out of favor in comparison to your lions and sand kings and stuff currently for whatever reason, death prophet(who is kind of weak currently), Mirana which is really surprising and OD(who is also kind of weak, but I would have thought would see at least some play if only due to the dominance of intelligence mids like Lesh, QOP, Lina, and Storm

The changes to AOE gold and creep gold were just a bit of an overnerf for carries in general, I expect the difference to be scaled back a slight amount in the next patch.

I need TI.

Same here. So I tried to play some Dota 2 yesterday.

I ended up playing with a Russian group, we got destroyed and of course they put it on me, yelling all kinds of insults and shit.
2nd game was won with another Russian group but they spoke English in text chat and mic, I had Zeus playing support, it was fun, restored my faith in the game.

Playing the game makes you realize these guys at at TI are just beats though. Monday is going to be a bloodbath.

I'm torn between wanting offlane encan'tress to smash during this tournament and wanting her to stop being picked so icefrog will give untouchable the minibash it deserves

i'm watching these complexity games now and they're super impressive as a team. not necessarily the best individual skill but their strategy and cooperation are crazy good.

even if they don't do well in the playoffs i hope they stick together, american dota needs more stable high level teams.

Given that they have already won like 250k just by making top half of the group stages, and there will be another big tournament in 3-4 months, I don't see why they wouldn't.

I hope they improved the soundproofing of the glass for the players this year. I remember last year one of the teams tried to do something right at the start of the game, the crowd cheered so loud that the other team click on to the fact that something must be happening, and then worked out what to do.

Its really hard from what I heard. Normally the crowd goes wild and the booths will actually shake. I don't think any team will try it this year unless they are certain the other team can't hear them.

The booths might be resting on a table with enhanced vibration proof technology this year... Just a suggestion for volvo in the future if it isn't a thing already...

Almost on my plane to Seattle, gonna be a great event I think

Rosh's new position already discourages lvl 1 Rosh attempts, I doubt anyone would even want to try even if crowds weren't a factor. Smoke ganks are the biggest issue.
