Microsoft Gamescom 2015 Conference

That dashboard is giving me a "last minute" type of feeling. They show nothing on it and its coming out at the last possible minute? Just seems like it isnt ready to go.

Does anyone else only see and think of Animorphs when they see that actor from Quantum Break? The second I see him I jut picture him morphing into a tiger and half expect to see blue centaurs.

As an xbox fanatic, I was pretty underwhelmed, though I'm now interested in Quantum Break, and I'm definitely convinced RoTTR is a day one purchase.

I'm surprised that people enjoyed the conference so much. I thought everything shown looked weak, and the Halo eSports thing was an unending nightmare. Very disappointed that Quantum Break is pretty much just a cover shooter and that Scalebound looks so damn slow. Puzzled that their big one more thing was a Halo Wars sequel and that they chose to highlight the shitty looking Homefront sequel.

At least they showed up, I guess.

I'm surprised people didn't enjoy it. I loved it. Tons of games and great features. I'm tired of the negativity and "not feeling it" on everything Microsoft does. Everything is just this or just that. Everything discounted regardless of how good it is. I don't get it.

For a Gamecom conference that was pretty damn great:

Postitves:

+++Halo Wars 2 was an awesome announcement. Because of the one Halo game a year quota I think it'll actually make 2016.
+++Dark Souls 3 is god-tier
+Tomb Raider had a much better demo than E3 2015 (still not very interested in it though)
+Just Cause 3 looked good
+Glad to see Crackdown 3 full building destruction confirmed. Looks good right now but I doubt it's 2016.

Neutral:

Quantum Break: Gameplay looks really basic but the storyline and cinematic aspects have promise. And yes Aiden Gillian was all it took to get me interested in the TV Show. Will wait on this one.

Scalebound: It's an over the top open world action RPG where you have a dragon best friend, and it has 4 player co-op. That sounds really cool but the gameplay didn't hit me at all. The gameplay is always the core of a Platinum game and it just looked too slow. People need to stop complaining about the framerate though. It's at least 14 months away, it'll be fine. Though this might even slip into 2017.

Negatives:

-Rainbow Six Siege: What where they trying to show exactly? That was almost nothing.
-Halo 5 Guardians: Don't get me wrong, the actual arena multiplayer looks great but we didn't really see anything new. The commentary killed the gameplay anyway and really hurt the conference. I really want to see some Master Chief gameplay. All we've seen of the campaign so far is a really scripted Locke level. We've been hearing about big open environments for awhile now but we haven't actually seen any gameplay in them yet.

In terms of Gamescom conferences that was probably a B+

Honestly I liked it more than their E3 Conference. All that really had was the BC announcement.

Wait, people is really disappointed? What did you expect?
I personally expected one big announcement like BK3 or something, at the end I got excited when Phil mentioned first party I kind of expected it until I heard 343. The colloquial term 2nd party would have probably helped temper my expectations there. They shut down ensemble studios, the first party developers behind Halo Wars 1. CA was a good choice for a third party developer though.

I wouldn't go as far as him, but I could easily understand needing to see a few more things to make Xbox a must buy.

I honestly can't think of anything. The dash is getting revamped, new hardware, backwards compatibility, every first-party franchise is in development and they've got some great third-party exclusives coming.

I don't understand it, either. This was a great showing, in my opinion. I get that everyone has different tastes, but I don't get how some people say these games look boring.

People do this in every conference thread (not as much in Nintendo ones though). During the Sony E3 conference, even though that one was crazy, there were a ton of people bitching when their were boring segments. Even after it, people were complaining because they didn't care for Japanese developed games and therefore the conference was shitty.

Everybody has different opinions and tastes. For me, 3rd party games looked more interesting out of all the showings.
If none of these things excited the person, when the games which were shown were announced prior, then why watch the conference in the first place?

Well that did nothing to win me over. I still feel like the XO is aimed squarely at the U.S. dudebro market, with a few obvious money hats thrown in and some nods to PC gaming as half arsed attempts to win over the rest of the world sprinkled here and there.

Scalebound was disappointing, too slow, generic and boring, with just the most painfully annoying wanker of a protagonist I've seen in years.

QB looked cool, but the plot and TV show gimmick didn't grab me.

Halo does nothing for me anymore it seems. Sadly.

Tomb Raider looked like more Tomb Raider. Can't wait for it on PS4, even though I annoyingly have to!

Crackdown didn't really have any of the over the top fun I'd have hoped for. Impressive empty buildings falling over, admittedly, but I'm still extremely sceptical about how well that's going to work in real world conditions.

Other than that, I can barely remember what happened. Oh! The E3 Ceiling Car got mentioned, plus Cities Skylines is coming to consoles, and there was that neat looking masked mad Londoners indie game, both of which I'll get on PS4.

So yeah. 5/10 conference? Not bad, just bland.

Hahaha this is typical, and it really highlights what you are trying to do.

Think the conference would have worked better at 60 minutes. Conference aside, Microsoft has a pretty damn stellar lineup of games next year.

Recore
Quantum Break
Gears of War 4
Halo Wars 2
Scalebound
Forza Horizon 2
Crackdown 3
Sea of Thieves
Killer Instinct Season 3

Even if they don't announce anything else, 2016 is solid for them.

I look at this list and see Quantum Break, Crackdown 3, and Scalebound, and I'm done.

I already have an Xbox One. I really want games to come out that get me excited, but most just don't.

The biggest problem for MS being I buy all multiplats for PS4/PC, which doesn't leave them a lot of space to earn my gaming dollars.

It was an OK conference, but I want more than OK. I want something that makes me sit up and take notice, get excited about, and all they gave was more of what we've seen before.

I thought it was pretty good, not mind blowing. There are plenty of games I'll be picking up, Halo 5, Quantum and possibly Crackdown. Looking forward I'm also excited for Cuphead too.

Not entirely sure about Scalebound yet but that could grow on me. Bit of a disappointment that the big 'one more thing' was another Halo based game.

Just curious, for those who think this conference is a 8/9/10, is the Xbox the only console you own?

Seems like the vast majority of these titles will be 8/10 meh, and with the possible exception of the new Forza none of them look like potential must play games like the KH3/FF15/FF7 remake. Seems like a fairly straightforward haul of first party games, nothing that looks like it'd shake up the console race.

Clock is ticking on Microsoft whilst they get further and further behind this gen. Maybe a new SOC in the Xbox Elite next year to close the gap with the PS4?

It was a decent conference. Scalebound was a disappointment for me, expected much more.

They're still pretty weak on things like exclusive jrpgs and survival horror games. Plus they need to stop having things inevitably come to pc.

Halo is their premier exclusive though. It would be like Sony putting Uncharted on PC, or God of War.

Would be kinda cool, but I really don't think it will happen. Halo Wars 2 on PC is awesome though, and a natural fit being an RTS.

if Uncharted 1-2 started on the PC then sure it would be like that.

Solid showing, I expected more surprises tho. But anyway there are going to be a bunch of exclusives worth playing coming soon to X1. All in all great line up!

That conference should have been better than it was. It had good content, but the pacing was subpar for a MS conference. I'm incredibly excited that Scalebound is an Action RPG, though. That made my day.

Thought it was a 8 and don't even own a X1 yet. Have a PS4 right now only but will be getting the X1 this fall, probably the halo 5 bundle.

Maybe, but it also seems like the sort of stuff that might work better as part of the "Xbox Daily" thing they've got going, rather than as a part of the main press event.

Anyway, I really enjoyed their conference. I thought Quantum Break looked particularly great. It seems a lot of you guys really liked the Scalebound footage, but to me that was a complete miss. I've never played any of his other games, and maybe the tone of the game wasn't completely unexpected to veteran Platinum Games fans, but I certainly wasn't expecting the protagonist to act like a character pulled straight out of Sunset Overdrive.

You use multiplats for your argument?

Maybe people were expecting announcements for new IP's?
And I'd personally would have prefered to see some Gears 4, Sea of Thieves footage rather than a guy with a whip talking about a game, Fifa Ultimate team, Halo segment, etc..

Like I said, it's just my preferences. There's no hating on Microsoft. Just not woved at all and actually disappointed with their future games.

Also pretty tired of the DX12 hype and the Nvidia works tightly with us this, blabla when actual Windows 10 drivers are crashing left and right. That shit leave me sour.
People are in their right to be excited with the conference showings as much as others being disappointed with what they've seen.

For me Scalebound and KI S3 xD Big KI fan so thats a given. But Scalebound looked amazing. JRPG games dont usually get me excited but i thought the gameplay looked spectacular. Very interested to see the different dragons and what powers they give you. Plus coop is cool too.

Thats true.

People have differing opinions... No need to break out the persecution complex.

That said I personally think Quantum Break looks awesome!

I think I'm in the tiny, tiny number of Xbox fans that's just absolutely bored of Halo. Maybe it's the mood I'm in but I still reel slightly when I saw that Sunset Overdrive sold poorly, I hope if Quantum Break and Scalebound do well critically that the Xbox user base supports them as much as possible.

i feel nothing when the Halos, Fables and Forzas show up at these things, it's even getting that way with Gears, when Gears 4 was announced I thought I would be excited but I felt nothing. It's like I'm burned out on the brand or something.

Recap time

QB i will buy but i hope the shooting is kept at least 50/50 with exploration, the least shooting the better for me.

Scalebound Not a fan, the main character is annoying, another Nathan Drake wanabe, pass.

Tomb Raider Not for me, should be called Mountain Shooting. I love the original TR where every room was a puzzle and you were pretty much the only person in miles, save for the ocassional bear or enemy. This is another game and i don't like it.

Crackdown I'm tired of open world, quests filled worlds by now. The destruction looked pretty lame too, not my thing.

Halo 5 I care more about the singleplayer, they have yet to show anything substantial but it's a no brainer anyway, bought.

Forza Yawn

Halo Wara My most anticipated Xbox game right now, i hope they deliver.

Did they show enough to make me want to buy into their product? No, no they didn't. It's clear that MS know how to cater to their core, but they continue to do little to make me think their console is a good investment if I have no interest in their usual IP. Sony has had the same problem this generation, relying too much on remasters and IP from last generation.

And of course, if I can buy DSIII on a platform that offers a more diverse catalogue of titles (to my taste ) then of course it's showing here today isn't necessarily going to make me run out and purchase an Xbox.

Look, I'll quote your original argument again...

Well I'm sure it was great for Xbox fans. But for somebody with little interest in MS's core franchises (Halo, Forza blah blah) they continue to do nothing to excite me. 5/10.

Your original post doesn't mention that. It just says that there was nothing at the press conference to excite you because you have no interest in the MS core franchises, but you don't even acknowledge that there was anything else there. And drop a 5/10... That's just lazy reviewing right there. You didn't even dig into the meat of the press conference before throwing out your arbitrary score.

I mean there were definitely things to bemoan at the conference that might have made it worthy of a 5/10... Like the eSports Halo prerecorded footage fiasco, but you know, take some time and list your beef without "blah blah" and make a quality post instead of some drive by score dropping.

Just saying. My review of your MS Gamescom press conference review? 2/10.

Just catching up on this a bit and came to post about the chat pad - maybe there's a happy medium between your overpriced unwanted voice interface and your overpriced unwanted keyboard interface, that, maybe, involves a well designed UI for text input on controllers? Surely?!

RE games - Quantum Break looks like an astounding technical achievement, but the demo also suggests a 3rd person cover shooter where you shoot unending military grunts. Doesn't seem very exciting does it? Hope for some good impressions.

Who is Scalebound for? The main character comes across as an appalling individual who I was sick of hearing from halfway through the demo, let alone spending 10-15 hours in the company of. Yet, he also swears in the dialogue, so its not aimed at a younger audience. I can't comprehend it, its clearly not for me I guess...

Crackdown however, I think looked amazing, if all the technical stuff works. Seriously fantastic stuff. Liked how they made sure to put orbs in basically every shot!

Sure persecution complex. Like the thread isn't inundated with crap like I mentioned and it happens every time.

Great conference. Qb is a must buy for me now.
As is tomb Raider.
