Non-Canadians, what do you really think of Canada?

I just watched a really good movie by Rob Cohen called "Being Canadian "

http://beingcanadianmovie.com/

https://youtu.be/TC0tAdR_b3U

It touches on a lot of things including the world's indifference to us and our own inferiority complex and weird desire for validation and approval, as well as our cultural identity

I know there's all the jokes about "lol America junior" and stuff, some of which is true to an extent, but I'm curious what those from outside the country really think of Canada. My guess is that they don't think about us at all, really, unless our coke snorting mayor is in the news. But for those that do, what do we represent? Who are we to you? Have you been to Canada? Would you want to?

Just thought it'd be interesting to hear some foreign views, I don't know anyone outside the country so all I hear is the typical domestic conversations from my fellow country mates.

As a Canadian, I certainly agree with the idea that the country has an inferiority complex. You can see it in any sort of discussion around any sport that isn't hockey.

Canadian checking in.

I'm from Ireland and I've lived in Vancouver for six years now almost.

I've visited Toronto too in that time and both are world class cities and Canadian people are lovely

Standard of living here is really great, I find it hard to speak ill of the place

One of the best countries in the world IMO and I'd love to live there.

I love the socialized healthcare, the low crime rates, and the small military presence. Plus Canada has the reputation of having some of the friendliest citizens in the world.

It seems pretty great. I've only been to weird Canada (quebec) but I'm sure I'd love real Canada. Toronto and Vancouver both seem really cool.

Also Trailer Park Boys is amazing and I like to pretend it actually is a documentary.

Been to Victoria, Calgary and Edmonton. Loved each trip, especially Victoria. Wouldn't mind moving there to be honest. The people were extremely pleasant, transportation was great and I stuffed my face with poutine. Still haven't tried Timmy's though.

I'd move to Canada if I had the chance.

Visited Vancouver earlier this summer... I want to live here. North Vancouver, Squamish, and Whistler were so beautiful.

The only time I think about Canada is when a Canadian is talking about being from there. They always seem like nice people, though, so at least there's that.

Ex-pat here. Born and raised in Scotland, I now live in Canada.

It's like the US, but without the bullshit. It's like what the US should be.

Tim Hortons is overrated tbh even though most people here will give me shit for saying it

The only good thing about the coffee is that it's relatively cheap and there's a Tim's on every corner. Their donuts are shit. The timbits are alright I guess

Growing up in Ohio, Canada seemed like a paradise across the lake...

...except when the vending machines ate your Canadian quarters. YOU OWE ME A MILKY WAY YOU MAPLE SYRUP SWILLERS!!!

Well, I'm planning to move to Toronto (or Vancouver) in a couple of years and I think Canada is a great country. I'll visit Toronto with my girlfriend a year from now and hope to have fun.

You mean that doesn't happen in America??

Most vending machines here don't like newly minted coins. There's a trick to the insertion method that works most of the time though

American here.

Seems like a nice place I would like to visit someday.....but I have absolutely no idea what I would do there.

Incredibly boring people, incredibly boring place. No sense of culture. No meaningful exports. Their books always cost a dollar more. All in all, invisible.

This is what I hear. When leaving Victora, on my way to the ferry we passed a Timmy's, and the line was out the door. So I just went to McDonald's to grab some quick breakfast. Probably wouldn't care for it even if I did get to try it.

You better be rolling in fucking dough given the housing prices at the moment in both cities.

Still, Vancouver is a lovely place and I totally understand anyone who wants to live here. Thing is, again, if the current housing situation keeps going, I'm gonna be out of here for sure unfortunately.

It's basically that place a couple hours away that I need a passport to get to these days.

Also I thank them for hockey, Lemieux and Crosby

I remember liking Montreal when I we little but haven't been back since

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I hope that things get better fast for you guys (and also hope that I don't have to sell my soul to find a place to live lol)

Great education system, great healthcare system, great people, home of bacon, terrible snow days. I've only heard and read super positive things about Canada, so I'm inclined to believe that I would have a great time there.
