Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

We're mad now, but we'll be crying and cheering the SE the next time they drop some good info, no matter how many months and years it takes, swearing up and down that "they've changed!"

We are truly the battered housewife of fandom.

Pft, not even. It's just the most hard to please.

People should keep their expectations in check. Waiting for a game for almost a decade thinking it's gonna be the most amazing thing ever are in for disappointment. I've come to accept that it's no longer Nomura's FFVersusXIII, it's FFXV and I'm gonna judge it by its own merits. I hope it manages to still maintain the "bonding" themes Nomura talked about in 2006. Honestly this game will forever be marred by it's long development history, fan expectations, and it's own ambitions.

Thanks for remembering it to me, nice avatar btw.

Everytime I refresh this thread it contains new gold!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII was originally shown off at E3 2006. I was 19 at the time nearing 20 and was a couple years into college.

I am now a 29 year old man and this video game still has not been released.

This idea has been unrealized for almost a decade.

How hard is it to make a video game? HOW HARD IS IT TO MAKE A VIDEO GAME?

Honestly, what was wrong Regis?

He had a great design. Thematically, his "elegance" really contrasted with the enemy's more military-driven design.

Just to touch on something other people have mentioned earlier.

Yeeeeah, FFvs13 is dead, this is clearly not that game. FFXV is clearly a different game that has borrowed some themes and storyline concepts from an older defunct title. So yeah, I'm going to judge it as a completely different game. I get it though, I can understand why some people wanted to see Vs13 so badly.

Objective summary, with no sarcastic remarks:

  • Confirmation they redesigned Regis. No reasons given, but they say they have one.
  • Airships are still being worked on, they don't work at high altitudes and may end up as DLC.
  • They can't announce a release window, but they say they do have one set.
  • They've shown the new trailer again, Tabata said the huge things aren't Summons.
  • The prologue of the game has been changed, they didn't say how much.
  • They say Luna is a strong female character who won't need the help of Noctis in fights.
  • The girl with black hair, featured among the main characters in promotional assets, hasn't been named yet.
  • Details on the main villain haven't been finalized, they can't share anything at the moment.
  • They read some story excerpts from the game's website while showing some concept art.
  • They're working on an official forum, which is not ready yet.
  • They showed a Malboro fighting Noctis, a fight that ends in a game over due to Bad Breath; also a brief stroll through some new landscapes (still Duscae).
  • They'll show the same trailer at PAX.
  • New stuff at TGS and working on a new demo.
  • Product placement for german beer.

It doesn't look much better to me, like at all.

Is the script even finished for this? If they don't have a name for that girl and the details for the villain... I begin to wonder if Nomura had this planned and ready and they trashed his ideas, or he was in this same position when he was expelled from XV...

Time goes too fast. In 2013 i was hopeful this was a 20XV game. So naive.

Tired of all the pointless charscter redesigns. And I bet some of the characters who were originally supposed to be playable won't be in the final game(Dragoon lady and Cor)

Not me I'm done until this game is out, I've used all the Phoenix Downs I had.

If anyone wants to create a creepy fan fiction forum called "Lord Nomura-sama's Cult of the Versus Brotherhood" in which we all pretend to be VersusXIII characters and retell our own vision of the story then let me know.

not really, even I'm not that sad......yet. :(

Didn't think yesterday's trailer was that bad, just the sequence at the end was too drawn out but whatever...so its midnight EST tonight, hopefully this is better.

Dragoon lady was always supposed to be a small character--even when Nomura was in charge.

You make it sound like Cor and Dragoon lady were originally playable characters.

They said Cor in but as a guest character and that the dragoon lady is a small enemy character.

So let me get this straight. They're going to have to go back and re-render all that CG where the king originally appeared?

Fucking nuts.

Who is to say that the character redesign is pointless? The new Regis looks like he is ready for a fight. The old design looked like he was ready for diplomacy.

BTW I'm reading on DS that Tabata said that the game is 65% complete right now, release date is set and everything going forward has been planned both on the development and marketing side. They're on schedule.

.

Nomura had already said that his and Nojima's scenario was already complete many years ago.

So what was left was for Tabata to tear it down and rebuild it to make it how they wanted it for 15. It was a development "reboot".

Sounds like a nice addition to the FFXV feedback forum tbh

That's what I was thinking as well, but then I wouldn't put it past them to just toss that into the trash and make all the new cutscenes in game. This is square were are talking about here. Nothing surprises me anymore.

Versus was cancelled people. This is FFXV, it's a completely different game. Hopefully people will start to understand this soon...

That distinction is completely irrelevant. People have been working on this project for nearly a decade. That is literally thousands of hours worked on this one game.

The development effort that has gone into reworking existing parts of the game and creating new demos is effort that is not being spent on everything else that still needs to be implemented. The game specifications should have been finalized years ago. Development needs to be working towards having something that can be considered a shippable product, not reiterating on the prologue to make it super shiny.

The problem here is that everything that we're learning about now points to this project still being mismanaged, regardless of whether that project is publicly called FFXV or Versus.

"Hey guys! Tabata redesigned another chartacter! time to redo all the CG's!"

"YOU TOLD ME THE THIRD TIME WOULD BE THE LAST TIME!!"

"NOOO!!! WHYYY!"

"I CAN'T DO THIS!! I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THIS GAME FOR 9 YEAARSSS!!"

The new landscapes are from Duscae? Aren't those from the second half of the game?

And they really confirmed that at PAX would be showing the same trailer?

Who is to say that the character redesign is pointless? The new Regis looks like he is ready for a fight. The old design looked like he was ready for diplomacy.

I disagree, having no armor doesn't mean he wasn't ready to fight, I mean noctis and co. don't seem ready for a fight either, the thing is that Lucis instead of armor and guns has magic and they can do this:

This scene is most likely gone right? ;_;

Hahaha oh man if we're talking combat gear design, look no further than main characters.

I like the redesign, don't think it's a big deal really, but still, how early it seems to be was certainly a big disappointment to me. I think I'm losing my hype for this game, took me almost 10 years, but I'm close to indifferent to it now.

Hang in there M_Night. There's light at the end of the tunnel.

This long, long tunnel :(

I'm just saying the new one gives off a more "combat ready vibe" versus dude in suit, which gives a more diplomatic vibe.

Hahaha oh man if we're talking combat gear design, look no further than main characters.

You make a good point, but seriously that's all Final Fantasy main characters.

Yeah considering they have main characters not named, haven't finalized the villian stuff, and are still doing complete character redesigns at this point shows what state this thing is in.

What a wreck, when they were releasing trailers saying stuff like "We're almost there." And talking about the original demo I thought this thing was maybe actually far into production.

At this point Winter 2017 sounds optimistic

And this is what I'm saying. It doesn't matter what the public name is. The game underneath is different.

All the thousand of hours of work someone out there put into the game? That's gone. That's money Square lost. The game got cancelled, and much like every other game with that fate, the money invested into it is also gone, as is the hours of work put into it.

This is a game where development started around 2012, it's no longer the same project, it's no longer the same people, no longer the same money. Everything changed.

Yeah they're probably aiming to profit enough from this game to make up for all the losses of their cancelled project, but the fact stays that this is another thing entirely.
