New Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 screenshots: Now with cel-shading!

No... Just please leave the cel-shading to, uh, to be blunt, the Japanese games. Is the effort here to create some sort of stylized one-off for the sports genre like Auto Modellista was? Because lol? To make cel work even passable you need all your elements to function harmoniously. The mobile/f2p roots are just too deep and the environments far too stiff. Arguably some of the worst things stand out even more now. $60, people. $60.

On September 29th, this game will be nowhere to be seen. In mid-October someone will go "hang on a minute, wasn't Tony Hawk 5 meant to come out a few weeks ago?" and will contact Robomodo. Someone at Robomodo will begin to speak but will be cut off by one of Activision's clones. "There is no such game," it will say. "We do not know what you're talking about. It never happened. It was never happening."

Game looks odd as fuck. Want to hope for the best since it's a Chicago pride thing with Robomodo since I want local folks to succeed, but I'm wary of how good this game will end up being aside from delivering good Photoshop potential.

If someone takes a crap on the sidewalk in Chicago do you have pride in that as well?

This is just getting weird now. They clearly saw people not liking the look so made a decision to go cell shaded, only problem is it's so late in development it's clearly a rush move and it still looks poor. If they really want to make it look better this late on, they should delay it. L

I think the only thing that can save it now is if it actually plays great, like the older games did. I reall want this to surprise me and play great but I'm not holding my breath now.

The worst thing about this monstrosity is that it's going to kill off the genre for good. I'm not talking a multi-year gap, no-one will ever make another skateboarding game ever again because the idiots making decisions will say "If THPS5 couldn't make an impact, nothing can".

Well, it DOES look like it's been going through some iterations since it was first shown. Here's hoping they find a style worthy of the franchise!

Without the shadows in the first image, the skaters would look like someone poorly photoshopped them into the scene... it might all look better in motion though.

LMFAO

At this point, I'm convinced this was a mobile game

but then Activision said that maybe they should just put it on consoles.

...$60...

Holy sweet mother of Jesus! That looks nasty

Did they try to go for that comic book style (kinda like ultimate spiderman) and failed in the process?

I don't care about the graphics as long as they get the gameplay right.

Please please please please please get the gameplay right.

How can THPS go from all time classics like 2 through 4 to pretty much any TH game in the past 10 years? I don't understand.

Probably the biggest video game fall from grace, gauging my own enjoyment.

It's too harsh, but it's hard to not think "why even bother?"

The actual feel of the game is the most important thing, but looks aren't nothing, and this looks humorously awful.

I loved Tony Hawk PS 2 and 3 (Never had 4) but I just can't see why they decided to bring this back up in this form. I don't see this hitting retail.

They need to tighten up the graphics on level three.

Using cell-shader with a realistic art style is pretty fucked up. If they wanna go that route, I'd prefer they go full cartoon style.
