Fighting Games Weekly |8/10-16| Gods(Beard) Among Us

Anyway, I'm gonna be in Japan for a week and half starting Wednesday. Time to go play with some JPs and maybe I can drag Kubo out and learn Doge tech from him in Persona, lol

If you're randomly in Osaka, come to our shitty weekly ^_^

I'll probably be in Osaka at least a few days, when is it and what games? I need to know so I can figure if I'm there during that period and if I need to bring my pad, lol

Fridays from 6pm- mostly marvel/xrd/ultra. Might be stuff on other days too since many regulars have the summer off. Also, if you randomly need Osaka info, I've lived here for a while now, so feel free to ask!

Oh Fridays, no bueno then. I'm in Tohoku this Friday and I'm heading back home the following Saturday so I'm probably gonna stick it out in Tokyo. I'm good on Osaka info, I've been there before and I can always bother Dogura or KOG, lol

Word- maybe next time, haha.

I just realized, Godhand is a mishima. Maybe he'll be in Tekken 7.

Though he is probably just better off staying in Ehrgeiz, or Ehrgeiz 2 if theres ever a sequel lol.

Can I have your connection? ... I'm serious, I want your connection. I will force you to play KoFXII exclusively online for the rest of your life if you don't.

It's because I typically don't play anyone outside of 600 miles away. Being in central cali is a blessing as well. I get to play Nor Cal and So Cal guys almost lag free.

I knew this would happen. Power corrupts all.

How to play Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Universally recognized as the most fundamental of all fighting games, sometimes starting in the past is the best way to get a heads-up for the new generation of games.

That's the title that won?!

...maybe we should go to community. :p

sigh...and immediately the FGW thread is used for the main sake of only pleasing Beardo.

Aaaaaaaaaaany how...it's that time again.

I have to split much of this into west and east.

1) KI right now
2) SF4 did it well- one per year, no new disc needed except for Super
3) MK in west, Tekken in east
4) MK in west, Tekken in east
5) VF
6) MK in west, Tekken in east

Worst:
1) Arcsys in general for ripping people off
2) SC
3) VF
4) VF
5) Tekken and Arcsys games
6) KOF

1- Killer Instinct for now, though SFV's seems better in concept at least.
- Worst is BB's, frequent paid updates and DLC with every version.

2- SF4 series(assuming this refer to updates intervals), otherwise, one game per generation if it's good enough and keeps being updated. Or two games per gen if you're doing NRS's style of 1 year support before abandoning ship.

3- NRS with MK, no competition here, even if SF/Tekken/KoF have better recognition elsewhere, it's not thanks to the way Capcom/Namco/SNK handle their IPs.
- Worst is between SNK and Sega... But than you remember SNK's non KoF IPs and the winner here is clear.

4- Smash is king, MK isn't bad too and SFV seems to be doing better than I expected at capturing casuals interest.
- Anime games in general are mostly ignored by the public. P4A and to a much lesser extent Xrd are the only ones that managed to be noticed thanks to their IP/graphic.

5- Smash does a great job at entry level, but the moment you start to take it seriously you run into Tekken level of obtuse movement. Rising Thunder is easy to pick up and play but being an online 1v1 traditional fighter means new comers wont survive much outside training mode.
- Biggest offenders are anime games and Tekken, though this isn't much of a negative for the core players.

6- We'd need actual cost/profit numbers for this which we don't have. But MK, KI, Smash and even SF4 seem to have done pretty well. ASW surviving gen 7 as a low mid-tier Japanese dev making mostly fighting games was impressive too.

Best:
1. Tekken Tag 2 easily. 4 DLC characters and a stage early if you preorder, then free for everyone after a couple months. Then 6 more characters and a bunch of stages free later. Personally i'd have staggered it even more though.
2. NRS games. If you include Injustice it just feels like they give each game time to breathe but also get the hype train going well in advance for any sequels.
3. Street Fighter. Not everyone likes it but everyone knows it. Must be doing something right.
4. Smash for the roster or MKX for the story mode and cheap thrill gore.
5. Smash is super fecking hard to play well, but somehow none of the casuals are intimidated or put off by this. Well done there.
6. Who knows? Props to Arcsys and French Bread for staying in business i guess.

Worst:
1. MKX. Waaaay too much DLC from the start. Too many patches too.
2. Tekken. I want to play already but it just fecking takes forever while the game is being milked in arcades. I'm sure it's nice for people that have arcades =/
(Runners up are Arcana Heart, BB and DBFC for announcing sequels before the last game is even out everywhere. And King of Fighters and VF for taking so long they're being presumed dead all the time. Well done. )
3. Under Night. With that naming sense (for the sequels too) and the hard to read logo it's like they're actively trying to discourage people talking about it. My friends still call it 'that one game we tried at your place'.
4. Arcana Heart for the roster (No existing IP, only young girl characters, art that seems largely unpopular in the US at least), USF4 for the lack of modes.
5. USF4. It doesn't explain anything in game and has stuff you'll never find on your own unless you're extremely experienced. And the online is shit. Getting into Tekken on your own is way easier than getting into SF4 and that's saying something.
6. Hey Arcsys (et al. ), Europe has more people than the US and they're pretty open about anime generally. Maybe if you sold your games there for once they might do well? Seriously, why does 'western release' mean 'US only, maybe half the time EU gets digital only a year later' so often? Do they not want to sell games?

ANIME WARNING:

In Persona, who sould be a good choice for an Unga character?

Someone you can go in and just start bullying people (And who doesnt have insane execution)

I agree we need the events in the OP, it basically is what justifies a weekly thread imo. Luckily I've already done the work for you GB. Just copy/paste it in!

It's almost like you believe that my adding inconsequential, intermittent sarcasm to an OT that basically nobody else was willing to accept responsibility for is somehow worse than hijacking the first page every week to crowdsource market data for your personal fighting game project.

:P

Why do all your questions sound like you want us to write a university thesis or something lol

Agreed, even Extend has DLC...
Because the man is making a fighting game and needs basic survey data. Just answer the questions.

Also the Blazblue thing is flatout wrong too because nobody can beat Bamco's abuse with EXVS. I would love it if Bamco would actually adopt a more customer friendly ASW approach.
