Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

Aside from a single mid-game weird fade to black (that I'm sure Visceral wished it could have ironed out), the entirety of Dead Space 2's 10 hours is one long "take", into and out of cutscenes and gameplay. In a non-first person game, it really helps bring cohesion. It's not that cuts to video or cutscene models or whatnot are that bad, but they don't keep you as inside the experience as an unbroken camera angle.

Holy shit. I really like DS2 and I never even noticed this. Really seamless.

I reckon MGSV will be more 'cinematic' though. I think the camera is going to fly around a lot more than it did in DS2, which was very much an Isaac-focused affair.

Throw out the JaseC signal, he will help us with which one is correct.

Pay no attention to SteamDB's release time. At best the date is right (and it usually is); at worst it's completely wrong:

SteamDB's release date flag doesn't actually offer any insight into games that don't have a specific release date listed on the store page, plus Valve still has to change release states itself and doesn't unlock games over the weekend. Case in point: Averan, which hasn't been released yet but SteamDB thinks was done so three weeks ago. Ordering Steam's own list of upcoming games by release date is the better resource and you'll see FNAF4 is listed between Ravenmark (6th of August) and Demon Hearts (7th), so it's one of those two at this stage.

Makes sense given how much of this game is rooted in Peace Walker design. I've never played any of the portable Metal Gears so I didn't consider them. I didn't understand until very recently (Ground Zeroes) that Peace Walker is actually taken quite seriously in the cannon despite being a portable game. I always wrote it off as a side story.

Still though, I never got the impression that Peace Walker was a very popular title. I'm glad to see that much of its' unique design is carrying over to something more grandiose.

Peace Walker is pretty well regarded. IIRC it was originally going to be a PS4 game, but Sony wanted to promote the PSP, or whatever.

Personally, I'm still struggling to get through it, a year after starting. It's nice but the levels are so tiny. It's a very different game. The strategy stuff is good but not quite engaging enough on a console – on PSP it's pretty much a perfect MGS game. Very short and sharp – and while the story isn't very well written, it's got some good highlights and very important plot points.

I dislike practically every new character introduced in PW. Lacking proper cutscenes or codec convos meant none of them felt as fleshed out or real as protags in the other games.

soo guys im just about to preorder the psn version of this and it says play on 9-01-2015 midnight pacific time

what the fuuuuck

i thought they stopped doing this fucked up shit...I'm on est...

(> if you'd still rather have it digital, wait until the game is on a digital sale 4-6 months down the line, trade in your physical copy, get the digital copy instead)

I wish Chicago had this.

GZ's entire opening cutscene is a oner that seamlessly transitions into gameplay.

Is there a way to see who & how many people you've saved in Ground Zeroes? Would be handy to know just incase I missed anyone, wouldn't want to leave anyone behind...

Not until after you finished a mission I think. Not very hard to check if there's anyone left to rescue though.

MGSV's Mother Base has me thinking back to all the time I spent talking to all my space bros on the Normandy between missions in the Mass Effect games. I imagine I'll end up spending half my play time there :P

I did the same on Normandy, so this might have that effect on me, but the desire to expand all the platforms on Mother Base would prompt me to get more shit done on the field, in the beginning at least.

Didn't Paz
die in Ground Zeroes?

Who's this, from the E3 trailer?

I wish Chicago had this.

It probably does. There are lots of independent game stores across the globe, and Chicago's a big place, right? I'd find it hard to believe Glasgow has one but Chicago doesn't.

Go on to Google and try lots of variations of 'Chicago independent game store'. It might be well out of the way/in a bad neighbourhood, but chances are you'll find one. They're often old fashioned, hard to find, and look pretty generic. But find one and give them a phone slightly closer to release about this.

There is nothing like this in Miami. It drives me crazy.

sorry i meant to say

clowns

HONK HONK

I think we found the front runner for the Game Designer position for the next Metal Gear ;)

Speghetti will make Kojima-san proud

We already know this is Snake's end-point after he dons his
clown
make-up

Kojima will cry a solitary tear (of beauty) when Punished Snake
slaps on white and red make-up in the final scene of MGSVI and retires from a life of war for good

Thus begins the next chapter of his life where he becomes
the great clown Pagliacci

Really?

... Maybe I'm just underestimating quite how corporate and institutionalised the USA is. Is it all chain stores across the pond?

Every city I've been in over in the UK has had independent stores. Do some googling, perhaps?

I called it when that trailer dropped and I'm calling it again: Paz
is one of several clones of the Boss. If Zero was going to clone Big Boss, why not clone the Boss as well?

It's at the point now in my area where it's safe to assume even most non chain restaurants are running something under the table (drugs, etc) or committing some kind of serious tax or wage fraud to stay afloat. In many areas in America it feels like theres no room for small businesses anymore.

MGS 7 will be after Snake has become the head of the international clown school in Paris

You have to capture clowns from heinous, villainous, marauding circuses and return them to your clown-base via multi-coloured balloons

Only then can you build your own clown army- I mean, troupe

Absolutely gutting. Over here independents outnumber chains hugely in cities and large towns – though any small town with a dead industry (eg mining, shipbuilding) will be inundated with chains.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a
tank full of Paz clones a la NGE.

You mean a
clown car full.

Yeah. They'll replace the Fulton with just a bunch of colourful balloons.

"Kaz, we already float down here."

If you find something in Miami like this I'll take the 45 minute drive and give them my cash.

Me too. I have tried many times. The only thing is maybe some flea market store but that is probably stolen shit. As far as I know there is no legit indie store that sells games early here. I would love to know one. Hell I would drive up to west palm to get MGSV early.

Sorry guys. This really sucks.

If it's any consolation, it looks like that weekend before MGSV is going to be so damned busy for me I probably won't get to play it even if I do buy it early...

That's just cruel. But please I want impressions from you early guys. Spoiler free of course. I remember with MGS4 there was a gaf member that got it early and called it the greatest game he ever played, for some that turned into fake hype that didn't live up to expectation but I fed off of it and I personally love mgs4. It was a fun time.

I make sure to go out of my way to provide detailed, spoiler-free perspectives on anything I get early. Did the same with Batman, The Witcher and AC:Unity.

There's nothing more frustrating than somebody getting a game early and squandering it by being a filthy non-GAFfer casual.

j/k, but it is annoying when people have it and post saying something like 'I got this game early but does anyone know how to do x' then don't respond ever again.

Here in the Netherlands there are also stores who sell copies before release. Sometimes big stores sell them by accident.

People post thier receipt on forums. Some users print this receipt and go from store to store to ask the salesman to sell the game because some other major company sold a copy.

I find this really sad.

I think what we should take away from this is that street dates suck.

Save an allotment for a street date so it's on shelves but silently allow preorders to pick it. Wtf are we waiting for.

But I guess people will do anything for sweet, sweet fresh-boxed goodness like MGSV

They certainly do.

It's probably a contractual thing? Publisher will contract developer to work on a game, and when they decide on a release date the developer will be contractually obliged to release it on that day.

Shops can still basically do what they want, though. The only possible downside is a publisher finding out they broke street date and not supplying game copies anymore (which I don't imagine they'd want to do).

There is an article on FOB on this week's Dengeki magazine. I just saw the sample and I can't fully translate it so I think good translation will come later.

When you invade other user's FOB

success: you earn soldiers, items and money. your ranking goes up
fail: you waste your infiltration, lose your soldier you invaded with (I don't know how this will work if you invade as Snake)

When you defend other user's invasion

success: you keep your stuff, your ranking goes up
fail: you lose your soldiers, items, money

seems heavy focus on ranking/leaderboard.

also they say when they invade you will get notification, so I assume the warning will come the moment they invade, not when they get caught.
