Fighting Games Weekly |8/10-16| Gods(Beard) Among Us

I should mention that I got a chance to play Tekken 7 at Round 1 last week, and Lucky Chloe looks pretty creepy during her win poses. The whole design of this character would work well in a horror film provided that some lighting was changed

There is a chloe concept art design with baggy pants and stuff somewhere. I wish they would have used that one

I like her as she is. Looks funny and all the people whinging makes it perfect.

This is a game where you fight a block of wood.

A block of wood makes more sense in the Tekken verse than whatever anime crap Lucky Chloe is. I can't wait for them to reveal her american replacement.

What's the story behind this, lol? You can't just post this one page and walk away.

it's from probably the only good ghost rider run ever which has this american road trip + insane horror concept to it. kinda like a 'from dusk 'til dawn' tone + crazy demon shit

one of the demons that shows up is that sailor moon lookin' chick who has the ability to shape flesh. it's just a one off design that is hilariously memorable + effective

edit:
i meant arc, not run... shit was sparse

I'm starting to not want to go to majors either... No one really gives a damn about Yata or Kof13. And going just to play 2-4 people to gain some experience that is only useful against those 2-4 people seems like a massive waste of time, money, and energy.

I understand that feeling- I have my own obscure games as well. If your game has solid netcode and online folks that are fun to play against you're probably better off staying home and playing online even. More comfort, less expense.

I don't think it applies to KOF13 or Yata though (close but not good enough)

BTW Actually ran into someone who was unplayably laggy in Rising Thunder- dunno if it was porn downloads or what- but 400 ping is too much for even GGPO.

What? Lucky Chole is an idol. You're telling me that an entertainer can't double as a fighter? That this is such a foreign concept to you? Do you also think Johnny Cage from Mortal Kombat to be an absurd concept as well?

I'm only expecting at best 20 people for VF at Canada Cup. but I'll drive 2 hours to be there. my buddy Alec is coming from NYC to be there too. at GUTS 2012 I was one of 2 people who showed up for VF and that was incredibly disheartening, but that's why I work to get people off their asses to show up for shit. it's not just about gaining exp, for me it's about supporting the scene too. I don't know the KoF scene that well but people know you, I bet you could get people to show up.

Yata runs very well for me online. The issue there is boredom, the only challenge is from one specific player named NickCool so matches feel like a chore now.

Show up? Maybe.

Have them know what they're doing and actually make the game worth all that effort? Nope.

I enjoy the social aspects but I really just want to play good players.

The problem with Lucky Chloe isn't that she's an idol. It's that she belongs in Arcana Heart.

Namco's character design peaked with Tekken 5. Been downhill ever since. That said, I've never liked the robots, kangaroos, or loli androids running around- I prefer my 3D fighters to be human beings.

I'd even take DOA char design over Tekken char design these days.

The curse of getting too good right there. Wish I had it.

As a suggestion, I would say try getting good at a game anyone gives a shit about.

What a terrible suggestion. Sometimes "games people give a shit about" aren't very fun for others.

I mean I can play Ultra, I just played it, but I was miserable every second of it. I'd rather play Melty with the one other person here than subject myself to that endlessly for the name of tournament.

After checking out Arcane Heart I find it hard to argue against this.

I love it when people take jokes by developers seriously.

Wait, you mean Harada was lying? No fucking way! Off with his head!

Getting Chloe fans riled up is a lot of fun :p

No one is saying you have to play a game you hate, but yeah if you decide to specialize in a niche/unsupported game you shouldn't be surprised when you don't find much competition. It's why I threw Smash as a suggestion. That game is being heavily played despite being almost 15 years now!

There's an element of truth there, of course. But yeah, after SF4 I want to avoid the scenario of playing a game I don't like.

I mean of course there is, I'm just tired of hearing it leveled at people who like smaller games. I understand I can work with a game I like less because the playerbase is bigger, but I'm really tired of this attitude.

It's funny how a game we all once thought was really great we all find miserable now. I'm one of them too, but at the end of the day USFIV is just too tired to be fun anymore. It's more stressful at this point.

Fan? I have no opinion on Chole, just think it's weird that some Tekken fans have this high minded idea of what the roster is. Tekken has a freaking Dinosaur with boxing gloves on it roster at one point.

i played SF4 for 3 years and have gone back to it from time to time. winning in SF4 means nothing to me and losing makes me feel miserable, so I really don't like playing it.

pretty much

I think part of the problem is that dinosaurs wearing boxing gloves are more culturally acceptable than what Chloe represents.

No, seriously, some people actually believed him for a bit when he said that. It was adorable!

You have to admit though it would have been cool if a bald muscular man used lucky Chloe's moveset. They can even have him be as tall as her!

I've never really thought SF4 was great even though it's my first FG. It's why I always quit and come back a few months later because that's the only real stable scene in my area vs other FG's I'd actually like to learn

Make Cory actually show up

Yeah I just mean it was really exciting when SFIV first came out. I remember going to Gamestop on launch day and everyone was in there picking it up which I feel like for a fighter you don't see very often.

I was so disappointed he was nowhere to be seen at Toryuken. He needs to get his priorities together

he's one of toronto's strongest players. he's not coming at NYGX because he has to work despite having known about it MONTHS in advance and despite the fact he's LEAVING that job right after NYGX.

I was actually on the hype train for SFxT. was rly disappointed. I think I dropped it right before VF came out.
