Fighting Games Weekly |8/10-16| Gods(Beard) Among Us

Local player really ruined low tier god's day last night :( @ 29:11
Browser doesn't work on mobile so I can only see these on the twitch app. There are two Gouken vids and one ends at 29:11?
Brazilian. GGPO used to get DDOS by this Brazilian guy all the time. He use to announce the DDOS attack in chat before he does it, just to taunt users. Apparently it's super easy too.
I fucking knew it lol

So I just learned from watching CPT that Honda can punish a blocked fierce Sumo headbutt. Can any other character punish with a normal?

Going through Seth's interview on The Loadout now. All of his comments about fighting games failing to keep people retained because people can go months before learning fundamentals is so on point. Like people go weeks before they understand the fundamentals the game was designed upon; that's a huge issue in the genre no matter who you pin the blame on.

Seth is always a great listen.

So any idea on the status of Pokken right now? Is japan even playing it? Rarely see vids for it since the release.

Also some Blaziken combo footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4qsijFA0zg
To be honest, I'm not sure what Nintendo's goal is with Pokken. I feel like a year from now they'll announce a console port to eye rolls by most.

Lol this Hearthstone RNG, first time playing arena. Lost 2 rather close, 3rd one ended with full HP.

Arbitrary difficulty is pretty good design to keep people hooked I guess.

Every time I go back to Darkstalkers, I always wonder why I never tried learning Lei Lei.

Then I remember I can't IAD consistently with her :/

I should seriously start playing Vsav now. No idea who to play though.

You should. As far as old games are concerned, it's one of my favorites. Always one that I like coming back to while learning new characters. Get ready to do some grinding on inputs though.

Lei-Lei is the only character I've played where I'm better on one side than I am the other. Left side I can IAD all day, while right I have to return to neutral between the jump and dash and it's so embarrassing. She's incredibly fun though. Probably tied with Bang from BB in terms of characters that just clicked with me immediately.

yea its a really fun game. fuck fish though. I've been trying to play bb hood

A friend sent me this video of competitive rock-paper-scissors that was on ESPN:

Seems relevant. My excuse is the mind games conversation in here a bit ago.

Incidentally, the event looks like something Jebailey would throw if he had the backing of big sponsors.

I'm playing a guy and yeah, it's gonna be a grind. I don't think I can do it on pad without learning stick first.
No Sasquatch. I think maybe Rikuo or Qbee.

At least they're prob self aware unlike the esports guys!

tbh I'm not entirely convinced that the entire thing isn't a skit.

These commentators are on point tho
I watched the whole thing. Love the "these guys are tired - rock is a pre-formed throw formation". Hand sports!

Same. I'm not sure if me learning her on the side for fun is going to help me with grinding out the IAD input on one side. It keeps inputting 6986 every now and then which screws up the shortcut.

I pretty much dropped Jedah for BB Hood (with Bishamon still on the side). Only link that I have real issues with is dash lp to dash lp. I always liked Jedah, but no BnB to knockdown makes me feel like I'm missing out too much on the game lol

I'd have to imagine pad players relying on triggers to push block. If it's like an SF4 pad though, sounds way too difficult lol

I'm using a 6 button pad and could once in a while pushblock this first match I had with someone who actually plays. I still hold back when blocking though so once I get out of that habit I think I'll be fine. Solar uses 3 buttons on the 360 controller I think. Still, I'm definitely learning this on stick lol.

This is the greatest thing I have seen today.

LMAO @ the RPS "meta".

"He's growing tired so he is more likely to throw out rock... but he knows that so he will do the reverse to psyche out his opponent by going scissors!"

A guy won the match on Ultra then accused me of playing wrestling.

Guess he didn't like me trying to use the match as practice for my kara throws. >_>

You should, probably Capcom's best fighting game ever. As for who to play what kind of characters do you like playing in general?
I think I tend towards runaway/keepaway characters mostly, but I'm open to trying any playstyle. I was thinking of playing Anakaris because of that but Rikuo seems like a lot of fun. Also Rotanibor wants people to play high tiers.

Victor and Anakaris are probably the most keep-away characters in the game. Jedah and Rikuo can also do that though that's not their main gameplan.
