I don't really know why they're hyping this up as "the conclusion". MGS2 was the conclusion. MGS3 was the prequel, and MGS4 was an alternate conclusion for people who didn't understand that MGS2 was the conclusion.
MGSV isn't going to conclude anything. It's going to be a character story about a very important character, but the largest plot threads have all been wrapped up for years.
lolThat's because MGS4 already rewarded it.

Contrary to what some people may believe, MGS4 is a reward. (IMO)
Well, The Boss's AI is in this. I am a believer that this will be a huge part in the game.
I'm sure the Boss's AI will be somehow responsible for the Patriot AI.
Now you know I think you're bonkers, but I don't think even you believe that statement. It certainly is. It is the best conclusion the series could ever have.

The only really unanswered question is why/how BIG BOSS AKA PUNISHED "VENOM" SNAKE rejoins the USA military as advisor to SOLID SNAKE at Foxhound while his side chick Outer Heaven thrives. And I mean, you could easily deduce how this pays out from the end of MGS3, which is all the series needed, but along came MGS4 and Peace Walker which fucked around with the whole Zero/Big Boss split, the Boss's will, and (for the time being) Big Boss essentially hounded by Zero from the USA with zero interest in returning.
The main thing this trailer reminded me of is that Metal Gear won't see a 30th Anniversary under Kojima.![]()
Actually, it probably will, since it's doubtful that Konami will release another within the next 2 years.
Still predicting a huge time jump at some point.
BB doesn't care for giving guns to kids.
Just that they can't smoke till they're older.
He's changing this, guaranteed.
And getting proper education when the conflict is over... Holy hell, Solid Snake didn't make Sunny play with guns...

But he won't be at the company to celebrate 30th anniversary.Actually, it probably will, since it's doubtful that Konami will release another within the next 2 years.
Yeah.
It seems like you have to get Big Boss, Kaz, Ocelot, andEli(?)over to Foxhound somehow.Mantis(?)
At first I thought that 'Diamond Dogs' might have been a division of Foxhound (the name would make sense), but that seems less and less likely. It seemed like it could have been explained away by Diamond Dogs being a division of Foxhound that Big Boss takes direct control of post-coma and that isolated division ending up going AWOL, forming Outer Heaven. But that doesn't seem to fit anymore.
If Kojima even bothers trying to answer that question I'd be interested in seeing what he comes up with.

i also don't understand why is there a need to create Diamond Dogs and a new motherbase when Snake already created Militaire Sans Frontier and Motherbase in Peace Walker and it served the exact function. The ones in Phantom Pain is just a repeat of Peace Walker. Did Kojima forgot about Outer Heaven and Foxhound?
MSF and Mother Base got destroyed.
Furthermore, the epilogue of GZ labels MSF at fault for the situation, which means the MSF brand is completely tarnished.
I don't think lad meant that.
More why build up MSF and Diamond Dogs, narratively. You only really need to tell the story of Big Boss building up one militia.
I'd assume it's because Kojima liked the base building mechanics, or maybe it was planned with Peace Walker that the destruction of MSF would serve as the narrative jumping off point for the Metal Gear Solid game after Peace Walker.
Also, another things that urks me is that the technology in MGS5 (and even Peace Walker) seems too advanced to be in the 1970s........MGS3 had advanced technologies but in 'harsh harsh' terms......Peace walker and MGS5 just went full 'gundam/ghost in the shell' sci-fi and didn't even bother to explain.
The Metal Gear in the first MG1 game is a big deal. But MGS5 and peace walker all happened before MG1 and all the machines in those games are like more technologically advanced and could eat even Rex for breakfast..

Continuity be damned, I want all the things in this game, and even more so since it's the last Metal Gear game. I finally get the 1984 future I've always wanted.
yah...like i mentioned elsewhere, Phantom Pain seems to be a 'remake' of sorts of Peace Walker with a bigger scope......just like MGS1 is a 'remake' of sorts of MG2: Solid Snake.....with all the similar encounters throughout...

You almost make it sound like the Metal Gear series is grounded in reality and makes any sense at all.
Remember, MGS3 takes place in a jungle in Russia, has a plot centered around the most inane reason for building a giant tank that anyone could possibly have come up with, a 3 hour long bossfight against a man who has lived for over a century presumably through the power of photosynthesis and a guy who fights with weaponized bees.
Tl;drDon't worry 'bout it, yeah? It's fiiiiiiiinnee. Trust me.
Is that the case, or is it set in a jungle that was Soviet controlled/owned territory?
I was never clear on that.
Agreed. Ridiculous how some people think it is a bad game.Contrary to what some people may believe, MGS4 is a reward. (IMO)

Soviet territory, not actually Russia. In the opening cutscene of MGS3, that the plane Snake jumps out of is crossing the border from Pakistan, which puts Tselinoyarsk in a modern day Tajikistan/Afghanistan sort of area. It might not be that far from the Afghanistan level in TPP, funnily enough.
It never was made too clear (nor does it make much sense anyway), since it's always referred to as 'The Soviet Jungle' and the location doesn't matter to the story much outside the fact that it's Soviet territory. The post below is correct however, so I guess the location isn't that much of a stretch. Still tho...
He got extracted from that mission via the Fulton Recovery System too. Made me go "Wow, neat!" when they first showed the FRS in MGSV.
you should have seen plenty of fulton extraction if you played peace walker.
