People that have been defending the double idea should be vindicated if the spoilers are real because it was clearly in plain sight but everyone dismiss it as fanatic tantrums typical of MGS tinfoil hats nuts.

I am loving every second of this even though I don't like the idea of playing as a double of BB, mostly because I think that with this Kojima gets away with blaming a double and BB is still a sympathetic character that players can still like without having to turn him into an actual villain.

I really want to Kojima to just turn BB into the evil bastard he is suppose to be, at the end of MGS4 I couldn't hate the guy even less after playing MGS3 and PW and at some form GZ.

It's Johnny's father from MGS3, only at the end he takes off his mask and he's super handsome like MGS4 Johnny and says that Johnny's father was killed by Big Boss stabbing him with a fork while escaping the prison. He's actually the brother of Johnny Sr., but he had an affair with Mrs. Johnny Sr. and Johnny is their son, which fits because of that thing where Meryl is Campbell's niece but actually really his daughter.

It's like poetry, y'know... every stanza rhymes with the last

The idea of the double itself wasn't so bad, it was that dumb Gray Fox as a double for reasons that made no sense that was ridiculed and dismissed, as they should have been, since they were fucking dumb and made no sense.

Well, they released those two posters a while back, to everyone's confusion (why the hell are there two Snakes, why is one poster backwards, etc). And to look back on it now, if the Venom/BB body double thing is true, it's crazy how well some of this marketing fits neatly with that narrative.
 
Body double thing is interesting. It kind of explains those weird effects that recur in the ground zeroes cutscenes. They have to mean something. Possibly were incorrect memories were stitched together.

Now I have to watch them again.

The problem with this is MGS4 indirectly hints at BB not being an evil bastard. If the Patriots can turn Solid Snake into a global terrorist via misinformation then what's stopping them from doing this in 1984 given the technology that exists at the current time. Stealth camo existed 21 years before Metal Gear Solid and years before the internet was possible. Technically, information control would be easier in the 1980's...

I want to know why Zero never found a way to make himself never age like Ocelot. Now that I think about LOL at Big Boss support team in MGS3 being the Patriots. <--- Spoiler if you haven't played MGS3 but this is the spoiler thread so you shouldn't be here anyway.

So if the double thing is bollocks...

then besides Skull Face being an absolute monster, what do we know for sure about the story (or is it largely take down skull face > monstrous act > something something > metal gear!?)

It's not that LOL when you understand The Patriots wasn't really a group of evil masterminds, at least not at first. They were an advisory board that, slowly, got more and more power as time went on to the point they were able to indirectly control everything in one way or another, and Zero getting extreme with his views lead them down a control-heavy path that lead to the AI.

I have a lot of issues with 4 and all, but I think people get a little obtuse about that tidbit. The support team being The Patriots, or at least the people behind what the Patriots spawned, wasn't that out there considering operation Snake Eater was such an important mission that could segue those individuals into certain positions.

Since we know Venom isnt Big Boss and possibly grey fox, what if the events of Portable ops are canon. We know that game is canon to some extent, Kojima said it himself last year i think. Even tho it is not offically a Kojima game, he said the main events were canon.

What if one of those main events were the events of Null? He was saved by BB after those events, and eventually kept at mother base years later. just speculation.

Also what if David Hayter is in MGSV but been hidden? What if he is REALLY big boss? We are told from that guide, that the events of GZ we PLAYED were from the perception of Venom Snake, not Big Boss. IT would make sense why Keifer voices Snake. In addition Big boss is just watching and waiting patientily.

I was just thinking and I realize I could be completely wrong/off base. But speculating with the info given now.
 
I feel like half the comments on this page are operating on outdated information and half of the others aren't. Problem is, it's hard to tell which is which.

There's nothing from the spoilers so far to indicate any possibility of Venom Snake being Gray Fox.

Where are people getting Venom Snake isn't Big Boss from? We just saw in the guide it said "Big Boss AKA Venom Snake".

Oh, it's from that one dude from Reddit. How do we know he's not full of it when we saw what was written in the Guide
 
So based on what we know so far. Is it safe to assume that "venom snake" was Big Boss' idea and is using this person to achieve revenge?

It can be, but the fans latch onto any and everything and create this shit. We were all Les Enfant Terribles. WE WERE ALL THE TERRIBLE CHILDREN AND WE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW DAMMIT ALL
 
So I'm about to play Ground Zeroes, has it been confirmed that the prisonners you can extract needs to be done at the hard difficulty so that it transfers into your motherbase in TPP?
