Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power Launch Trailer

Today is the day! Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power has been officially released for Windows, meaning the Early Access period has come to an end. Check out the launch trailer below. :)

Like the previous Trine games, Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power supports both online and local co-op for up to three people - so don't forget to share the news with your friends so that you can play together!

Today's release is for Windows only, but we hope to release both Mac and Linux versions later this year.

The game is priced $21.99 / 21.99 € / £15.99. A 10% launch launch discount is applied for the first week. :)

The Trinelogy and Frozenbyte Collection 2015 Game Packages are also on -40% sale for a while, so if you don't have the previous Trine games yet, you might want to take a look. You can find both Packages from the Steam Store Page for Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power.

We'd like to thank everyone who took part in the Early Access - it's been a wonderful journey for us, and we hope you've enjoyed it as much as we have! You are awesome!

We also took some new screenshots to celebrate the release. :) You can find them from our blog.

I have the game but might not have the time to play it yet until I get my friend to for coop, I've messed around with the early access version and it was pretty awesome looking with interesting mix of 3d and 2d platforming, but only spent a few minutes on it. First two were gorgeous and relaxing coop platformers so I'm looking forward to this.

I kinda want to wait for reviews on this one, but I'm not sure when those will start dropping. Not sure how I feel about the 3D stuff yet

Looks so good. Bought and played both Trine games (including the Goblin expansion) on launch. I just don't know about the whole 3D platforming. From past experiences it can be very frustrating.

Oh wow, they added full 3D platforming sections? Thats cool. Wasn't a fan of the earlier Trine games though (Despite them being very pretty).

I played the first one some time ago, loved it a lot. I should play Trine 2 one of these days.

I wish more games would go for a colorful fairytale art style like this.

Wow, it's out of early access already?
So fast, compared to many other 'infinite' early access games on Steam.

Absolutely had a blast with Trine 1 & 2 with my wife.
I'm definitely grabing it. Later though.

They needed massive work from the early access state of the game.

The 3D sections were pretty poorly handled, depth problems, control problems (the game not knowing if up was up into the world or directly up for a jump), aiming issues, sloppy controls and just a severe lack of the wonderful Trine 1 & 2 polish.

Quite easy compared to the first 2 as well.

The game looks great. I'm not convinced I like the 3D game better than the 2D gameplay though, but I'm still; enjoying the hell out of it.

Best game in 3D EVER.

And they even have a side-by-side selector, meaning I don't need to mess with NVIDIA's crappy 3DTV Play app (playing on my TV), and it looks absolutely stunning.

Really hate the platforming and physics in this series. I tried to play them, but I just don't enjoy it as much as I should.

Well I finished it. Which isn't difficult cause they only released 1/3rd of the game. It just ends. They call it a cliffhanger, but it really just ends. Oh congrats, you got 1 piece of this game's mcguffin, the end. And yet "user reviews and poor media attention has caught us by surprise."

I did think the 5-6 hours that were there were pretty good. It lacks the character progression of previous games, and the Wizard now only creates ready made boxes, but I didn't thought those simplifications worked out given that they had to balance everything for 3D. It's too bad they severely underestimated how much the game would cost and had to cut it short.

the over saturation of colors and extreme contrast in these games puts me off from ever playing them, not to mention that mechanics get old really fast.

This is both disheartening and infuriating to read.

Welp, hopefully they get the opportunity to finish the game and give us a complete product.

I think I'm done with the Trine series. It's good that they changed things up though. 2 was just more of the same and I got tired of it fast.

Any plans by the developer to increase game length with future expensions? Now that the main game is out, it might be cheaper to produce the rest of the game. Then again, maybe the main cost driver are the unique environments. Though the budget number seems rather high, how long have they been working on this game? (And the team size is the same as for trine 2, right?)

I've put maybe two hours into this now, and I'm liking it so far. The move into 3D is an interesting one; in some ways it works brilliantly (basic movement, hacking and slashing, swinging on Zoya's rope) while in other ways it's a struggle (Amadeus's box conjuring can be a hassle, Zoya's arrows are tricky to aim, some precision jumping is difficult to judge). Definitely not an abject failure, and I'm glad Frozenbyte had the guts to try something new rather than just do Trine 2 again.

It's a pity some of the RPG stuff had to fall by the wayside, though. No treasures to collect, no skill trees, no alternate weapons. I definitely miss those.

Presentation is on another level, as per previous Trine games. Animations are much improved, environments are staggeringly detailed and beautiful, and even the character models have received a detail and complexity boost that stands up pretty well even in cutscenes.

Sad to hear about the budgetary stuff. I typically don't mind a shorter experience, but I feel bad for the impact this'll have on Frozenbyte's reputation. Hopefully they're able to turn things around somehow.

It's far from high when you consider the detail of the game and the complexity of the design and iteration time needed. It's been in development for something like 3 years, though no idea on how the team size has scaled during the project. Frozenbyte is over 70 employees and burn rate per employee isn't exactly low here in Finland. Most likely not all have been working on Trine 3, though.

This. Time to be floored by the visuals and slightly unsatisfied with the floaty platforming all over again!
