Concord bombs on Steam with less than 1k players on launch day

On a holiday. Yikes...gonna get worse as this week is Astro Bot and the *open* CoD beta...might even go to single digits by the beginning of next weekend. What a disaster..
The game this weekend has top out at a daily max of around 120. Starting tomorrow when it’s back to work, the weekdays should be less than 100 even during peak hours.

It seems there a more people supporting the game than actually playing it. Another case of media warriors, they support the Game but not Buy it.
As crazy as it seems if concord keeps trending as it seems to daily, dustborn will surpass it. That game has stabilized and on the weekend has daily gamers actually slightly go up. Concord and dust born daily steam CCU may cross paths any day now.

Ree has 93 pages on this topic. Most of the replies are in support of concord or trying to justify why it's doing so poorly.

93 pages?!? If 1 person bought concord for every page they have in the thread the user count on Steam would double.

It's just performative anger. NO ONE on ant side of gaming is playing this game.
And thats the problem ... the illusion that this "modern woke audience" exist to buy and support their shit ... they are a enormous minority and who the fuck knows how this minority is ruining shit for everyone in the entertaiment business... is really a twilight zone episode

With so few a players you have to ask is it even worth the servers costs?

They will try and save this by going free to play but until then this is going to cost Sony even more money.

Server capacity is highly scalable, that part is not an issue. However, so far there have been no layoffs at the studio, so they are still paying quite a few expensive people to produce the seasonal content f.e.

They probably finish up their first “content drop” of season 1. Goes f2p soon after. They gut the studio completely (but try and keep the few programmers developers who are talented enough to work as a support studio), and that will be that.

Book it.

And if I were Sony, I’d ask a plaintiff attorney to review the purchase and sale agreement buying Firewalk for breach of representations and warranties. Lots of due diligence goes into these kinds of deals, but there does seem to be a whiff of fraud. Something to look at anyway.

Tomorrow is the first week after official (non-early access) launch. In theory that means it should be the first of their supposed weekly story cutscene releases. I’m beginning to wonder if that will even happen.

I suppose it will because they probably already have the whole thing scheduled out in advance but the fact that they haven’t said a word about the first:next weekly cutscene on any official channels does make me ponder.

I mean, Dustborn and Goodbye Volcano High should be the canaries in the coal mine. If they can’t get the audience with those games, and a smaller budget with a smaller studio…. It’s just not going to happen with a bigger budget and a bigger studio.

In the end, people want to play awesome games. Make awesome games that appeal to the major demographic that plays games. Perhaps don’t make decisions that dunk on “modern audiences” (which most games don’t) and go for it.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

I gotta imagine they already have at least some weekly cut scenes ready in the chamber.

Sony just sent out a survey update email to people who get their surveys.

If you specified you played PVP shooters, Concord is one of the options and if you specified you owned an Xbox they asked for your Xbox gamertag (Sony has NEVER asked for that before).

They're going to switch Concord over to F2P and put it on Xbox. Wait for it.
Since I was among the port beggars - I'd try it if it came to Xbox (Game Pass or FTP).

Is this guy for real? Or is that whole channel satire?

Because according to himself he's a game developer, lead designer, studio head, pro photographer, teacher and much more.
Also, the way he introduces Concord in every video and the way he dresses... this must all be a joke character, right?

He has some good points in that other video about the designs, but he also 'improves' it by making some (Very rough) adjustments to contrast and then shows of his own designs, which are just a bunch of t-posing default human models with colorful clothes in the Unity editor without lighting.

I don't know what to believe here, feel like he's pulling my leg :)
For sure, he is part trolling and part serious just based on his commentary.

It's because they're terminally online. Most well adjusted people will go to work, socialise, hobbies and then browse and post in down time.

Those folk spend they vast majority of their time online.
You can see it on Twitter/X.
You get a small band of these folks together and all a company will see is constant complaining.

Game development in the 2020s is a wild culture. These guys just cost their company a billion dollars due to the quality of their work. Yet tomorrow they all go to work, sit in cushy Herman Miller chairs, most likely take a VERY leisurely pace to working on the future Concord seasons, pretending like the entire thing is a just a weird happenstance that they themselves are the primary victims of. An alt-right review bombing hate campaign sunk their hard work. Colleagues across the industry are reaching out wishing well, likely perpetuating this belief in how their fate came to be. It's not sustainable.

Well, eventually, it’s all about the bottom line. Companies aren’t in the business of being social citizens. Bomb enough, and they are out of business.

It really feels like gaming is in a weird place right now.

You blame the dev team, and rightly so as they created the game. I, however blame the top brass at PlayStation for allowing this crap flourish within their studios.

Did you see the Legendary Skins brother? Sony execs didn't make those. They certainly didn't think "oh instead of making it attractive and shiny, I'm going to subversively make it matte green and ugly. Everyone will admire my shrewd artistic cunning and want to own it"

When will developers finally wake up and understand again that sex sells. Look at the success of Stellar Blade as a recent example.

It was always like this and it will never change. And there is nothing wrong with it, it is just human nature.

The same goes for other industries, for example the music industry. Why is Taylor Swift so popular? Sure she is a good singer, but without her looks she would be not that popular for sure.
We don’t have many unattractive singers and the ones we have have such a great talent that it can compensate for their looks.
But I don’t see anyone complaining in the music industry that we need for unattractive singers…

Stellar Blade is good. If Eve was dressed more conservatively, I doubt the sales would have been massively impacted.

Concord plain sucks, is competing in an overcrowded market, and is $40 when titans like Valorant are F2P. The whole operation was run by morons. Has nothing to do with sex.

Does sony do the right thing and refund everyone here?

How can you have a game last two weeks and not refund everyone because they cant find a game.

Rough times.
