Thats why Medic was being hidden away, and was voiced by Kiefer.

So, MG1 Big Boss was Medic/Phantom.

MG2 BB is true BB with Outer Heaven?

Okay

The silver lining is that Kojima can't touch anything in what is now the only remaining Metal Gear game to make any sense.

Rising

Think about that for a few seconds.

Well Zero's world isn't the world Big Boss wanted, even if Zero may not have been quite the villain we thought, he still put in a pretty messed up system.

But it does explain why BB's DNA was the one true key to accessing the AI and gaining control, which I found kind of weird if they were such bitter enemies.

Yeah. It just feels now that after they've kissed and made up, Big Boss might have gone "So...about those AIs....not the best idea I've ever heard". Would this mean that Not Big Boss survive MG1 into MG2 or that the real BB was in MG2? If so...why does he go bad again?

Thaaaaaaaaat said.....i think even the immediate/kneejerk reactions remind me why I don't let the endings of these sorts of things get to me enough to somehow ruin experiences that have gone before. I found people who said ME3's ending ruined ME1 and ME2 for them utterly bizzare and I guess I'd feel the same about this if I had any strong feelings towards MG1/2.

I mean I know that we're playing a game Kojima made but eh. I'll still look forward to whatever he may come up with next but I think from a story point of view he really needs a totally new IP to freshen things up rather than being caught in this cycle.

Still bitter Solidus isn't in it but whatever

I kind of had a feeling that Kojima was going to pull something to sort of resolve Big Boss of his actions in MG1 and 2. But I figured it'd be something lame like the horn did something to his mind, or nanomachines, or these new parasites drove him bonkers or something shit.

But I had no idea he'd go that far. Bah gawd, King.
Wait a second... in MG 2 is the real Big Boss you fight! "Phantom" dies in 1995 (MG 1)

I'm 100% convinced that Kojima has done this to sabotage Konami from carrying the series forward, that I'm not complaining about because after this the series is dead anyway.
Why fuck over the fans though? Why create this peice of shit storyline? There was literally NO NEED to do this, he already had the lore established, he only had to create a game showing us the story he'd already laid out. He has blatantly deceived fans for the sole purpose of fucking Konami over.
Fuck that man, I hope his wife took a shit in his birthday cake yesterday.

The guy is another Peter Molyneux, hypes things up so much, the whole world trembles when it all falls apart.

lol

the molyeneux comparison is a bit harsh. at least kojima actually releases games and doesn't fuck over the people who work for him.

Seriously though, who here will be the first to make "Hideo Kojima is a hack" thread after everyone's already played the game? I'll try to be the first. This shit is going to reach 1000 pages

That leaked ending...

.... Like Mass Effect, it never ends with catharsis or satisfaction, but only tumbling disappointment.

It all comes tumbling down.

You know what, if another Rising game gets made, just bring back Senator Armstrong, because even that won't be as fucking ridiculous as what I have read in this thread.

Reddit post:

"So the way the timeline all works out then...

MGSV - Venom Snake builds Big Boss's reputation further, Big Boss sits back drinking martinis and puffing cigars as his body double does all the work. Big Boss and Zero are still on kindof ok terms and Zero gives BB FOXHOUND to lead as Venom Snake builds up Outer Heaven for him.

MG - Zero and BB have a falling out and FOXHOUND is ordered to take out Outer Heaven, Solid Snake takes them down and kills Venom Snake, who looks exactly like his mentor and leader. While Outer Heaven crumbles, Big Boss gets the hell outta dodge/takes the money and runs off to Zanzibarland as the Patriots know he isn't really dead.

MG2 - Solid Snake kills Gray Fox, burns Big Boss to a crisp with a aerosal can, and the Patriots retrieve his body to put into comatose for the better half of a decade

MGS4 - Big Boss comes back to life and everyones like "yeah hes the best" and even you as the player feel kinda sad to see him die but then you remember he took one of his blind followers who was willing to give his life to save him and reconstructed his face and made him think he was Big Boss to save his own neck and then didn't even give him any gratitude at the end of his life and youre like oh yeah thats right Big Boss is a total douche

all and all, Big Boss falls into two territories. 1.) be a good son = he'll attack you with a rifle with unlimited ammo while you're unarmed and burned after killing your best friend in hand to hand combat, 2.) be a good soldier = he'll reconfigure your face so when you wake up you'll think you're him and do all his dirty work for him and even his friends will pretend to be your friend.
"

Seems like a pretty good sum up..

This is amazing and it's awesome how everyone is totally shitting themselves over it.

Good shit Kojima. It's your series end it how you want. The fanbase just has to fucking accept it. LMAOOOO

But why... this is Classic Metal Gear shenanigans.

This is the kind of shit even Jeff Gerstmann can get behind.

That means that the real legendary soldier died like a bitch by a can of hairspray. MG2's death is so much lamer than MG1.

Congrats to Kojima for this big clusterfuck. I mean he is so good at designing games, attention to detail, creative gameplay mechanics, etc...Also he is awesome at creating some awesome characters (MGS1 Solid Snake, MGS3 The Boss, Big Boss) and then somehow he finds a way to ruin them all. How on earth some random medic is able to do all this shit and why on earth we are playing as him in the last true Metal Gear game. Its been 11 goddamn years since MGS3 came out and he even found a way to ruin the Cobra Squad. Hell, 28 years has passed since the first MG game he even managed to retcon it into a Brazilian Soap Opera.

No matter what, i will buy it. I will enjoy the gameplay but the story, even for an MGS game seems to be sky high ridicilious this time. MGS4 answered every question Solid series had with nanomachines. It seems this one will be answeing by parasites or whatever...

We've been told in previous games that it was this man. Now it's suddenly someone else who happened to not only look like him, but sound just like him, think just like him and have nearly every last one of his abilities.

To be fair(lol) there are soldiers with equal or higher stats than Big Boss in PW.
What makes a soldier legendary are the deeds and his accomplishments. The entire cast of the Metal Gear series was delusional in thinking that THE Ultimate soldier was somehow linked to genes. That shit means nothing, it was simply that crazy people thought something crazy and the result is all that shit right now. Zero, Big Boss etc have lead the world to disaster because they got the resources to fulfill crazy ambitions no matter how weird they were. Idolizing the legends that are the boss and big boss was wrong and lead to some shit happening.

If the spoiler is legit, then Big Boss's line in MGS4 won't make any sense: "You erased me two times before. Today... Will mark the third."

Wow.

I can't... I just can't.

If you people have seen my posts here at GAF, you know I can tolerate and even love a lot of Metal Gear storyline's nonsense.

But replacing Big Boss with a body double for the entire game, and then saying that the Big Boss we defeated at Outer Heaven in the original game was a fake. Now THAT's the very first time I've ever felt "betrayed" by the Metal Gear plotline.

This was a punch to the face for me. =(

That is one hell of a retcon, though I suppose that's Kojima's way of tying the NES game to this one.

Medic being as a good a soldier as Big Boss is the last thing I care about. MGS2 proved that the Patriots could make a BB caliber soldier whenever the fuck they wanted, it would just take a lot of resources, like with Mr.Venom here, with his memories and body all altered over 9 years.

Yeah but then you can just argue he means metaphorically, he erased the entity known as Big Boss, twice.

We know he doesn't mean that, but still you can make it work.

Hideo Kojima - A visionary transformed into a hack

"Shit, we just hugged, if David finds out about the whole Venom thing he will HATE me, wait, I got it!"

I love the fact that people are realizing only now that these Characters are bat-shit-insane and have been for a while now. We haven't been playing heroes you know that?

Listen I love MGS4 and that game was a total fucking mess and honestly shit on the franchise.

This isn't even on the same LEVEL as that. I like the sound of this. Shows BB as a manipulative bastard and ties it all together.

Again good shit Kojima. The fanbase has to accept it. This is how it all ends.

This is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I hope Kojima lives forever and keeps on making crazy games, because if these leaks are true then it's so ridiculous and fantastically stupid that it's surpassed my expectations. If they aren't true then the meltdown makes for a good sideshow. This is a win-win situation all around for me.

I think, that at some point, BB became too much of a good guy throughout the series since MGS3. Hideo probably wanted to retcon him in this final game for this reason. He basically never became the evil antagonist in Outer Heaven. Instead, he's been killed by the Patriots because well... Solid Snake was actually a patriots agent.

He still put someone in his shoes who had to take the fall.

This is true lmao the meltdown will be the best part of all of this

No it's still the real BB in MG2, that's where all the evil crazy shit he does comes from.

Or at the time MGS 4 story was written Kojima didn't intended Big Boss to have a "Phantom" that got killed in MG 1!

Everyone will finally put the lid on the story discussion once no other game after this will be canon anymore, no matter how hard Konami will try.

I kind of like it...it tightens the parallels between Big Boss and Zero. They're both behind the scenes with pawns doing their bidding just trying to accomplish different things.

Well i have to ask now that that is out, can we consider this a worthy twist for the series?
No need to get personal just on a scale with the other twists in the series. Is this a grand enough ruse to make people angry like every other ending in Metal Gear?
