Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain | Review Thread | Words That Kill

Ost is great so far. the sound quality and production in general is really something else.

Oh man I CAN'T WAIT!

WOW!

This is the 3rd best thing I heard all day if true :D

I shit you not, 3 guys pulling boxes from an audi car. They told me over the phone the game was available from 5pm. Went there and there was 15 people waiting inside the shop.

They were giving the games in a plastic bag without u being able to see the game it was, paying, recepit for credit card (not for the game) and out.

I mean I do weed and this has been sneakier.

Hehe, sneakier.

I imagine the frustration of those restrictions would do more to harm a first playthrough, than anything else.

I don't ever want to have to restart a mission if I get seen, and I imagine going full 'No kill' would force me to do that on occasion. I want to deal with the problems the game throws at me with all of my options available.

Then I'd probably layer restrictions with each subsequent playthrough.

I actually misspoke. My original plan was
1. One-life. If anything goes south, I fight my way out.
2. Aim for no-kill. Until things go south, non-lethal approach only.
3. No reflex mode. Just for maximum immersion, basically.
4. No HUD-tags for enemies. Again, maximum immersion.

I want a super-realistic, immersive experience first and foremost.

However, in many games these criteria turn out to be too hopeful. That's quite likely, and if it's just too hard without reflex mode or HUD-tags, I'll happily turn them back on.

Can you turn off markers? If so, I'm tempted...

Yeah, man! Was amazing in GZ.

70 bucks. Hidden in a plastic bag like dealing with coke.
Eeeeh I was in Paris earlier but I'm glad I didn't go to République then. 70 euros in cash for playing now vs 35 euros I'll pay with my preorder + vouchers, I can wait a few days, plus Witcher 3 will keep me busy.
Ah who am I kidding I am so jelly.

Nah, no Reflexmode isn't that bad. But tagging is a must. You want identify targetpersons or skills.

I payed a week ago for the game on STEAM. You got nothing on me.

Also wasn't planning to play it on peasa... console system, but 6 days earlier are fucking 6 days.

So hyped I cant even.

Definitely tag on. Reflex okay to turn off.

If anyone in Thuringia area in Germany wants to know where he could get the game 1-2 days earlier, shoot me a PM.
I've upgraded my PC for this game, so I guess I'm settled for the Steam version...the temptation to get it on PS4 is strong though...

This is one of the reasons I am sad there aren't any small video game retail store in my provincial city :(

yeah sorry for the huge ass image lol. I thought it scaled automatically in the forum.

Anyway got the steelbook on order and confirmed payment gone out so can't wait. Podcast Beyond was a great listen today though as it was spoiler free. Game sounds great and a blast. I need to practice GZ some more, though I wonder if the core gameplay mechanics have changed at all in TPP.

anyone have any good leads on metal gear story summaries?

i've really only played 2 and 3 and i barely remember what happens in either but i'm quite excited for this game. i'd be down to read or watch something.

My local store in Scotland who usually get games early said they'd get it by Saturday 29 August.

I'm cool with that, but I subsequently called to double check and the guy said 1 September.

But now with all these reports of super-early deliveries... Shall I go in physically and ask? There's a solid chance they'll have it now, it's happened before with Far Cry 4 and AC Unity. The prospect of MGS V being right there behind the counter... OOoooho

Funny thing is I wasnt expecting to play it until monday through NZ VPN. I discovered the whole thing on Republique today and my work place is literally 5 minutes away from the store, like the oppposite side of the park/square.

2 hours ago I didnt know this was going down.

Can't hurt to try. Make sure you wink when you ask.

For anyone who ordered from Simply Games today, I've just had my dispatch email. Ordered at 02:07pm, dispatch notification received at 4pm.

Might get your notifications shortly. And for anyone who is thinking about ordering from Simply Games tomorrow, well I certainly would recommend it based on the experience thus far.

I think you need to note that this is for people outside of the USA.

Yeah, man! Was amazing in GZ.

I'm definitely turning off reflex mode. Enemy markers is a 50/50, depending on how good the sound is and the companion app.

If I can easily tell whenever there's an enemy around the corner and whatnot, I'll definitely turn off the enemy markers.

I've played a bunch of Ground Zeroes on Hard with the markers turned off, but I was using the actual iDroid map to keep an eye on them whenever I wanted to double check something. I really enjoyed that, as it was a sort of "keep my iDroid updated on his location".

Wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more

A wink's as good as a nudge to a blind

iDroid map is a great compromise, yes! I did that, too. Can we use the Companion App for the iDroid map?

That would be a game-changer.

I have to be the only one that got only a crappy email from paypal with something like "payment has been processed" but no dispatch email :(

Nope. same boat. Check the website though, mine is now showing shipped even though I haven't received an email or txt.

EDIT: Just received email. Psyched!

I got an order confirmation email when I placed the order at 2pm, but nothing since. Oh well! I was prepared to wait until Tuesday anyway, and the chances are that if it gets dispatched tomorrow it'll still rock up before then.

EDIT: Shipped! AAAHHHHH.

Can anyone direct me to a good MGS story recap video? Trying my best to explain this story to my OH so she can get what's going on in The Phantom Pain and it's not going well to say the least. Even covering the snakes is causing issues.

can someone of you who have the game early, upload the Sins of The Father to... I dunno.. somewhere? I want to hear the full song at least once..

I clearly remember using my phone for the map in Ground Zeroes. Wish I had a tablet though, but it was still an awesome experience, felt like I was actually handling the iDroid.

It also helps that the in-game iDroid has the navigation mode, which also lets you move while the map is up, giving you the choice of sacrificing equipment + mobility for live info on the soldiers (instead of opening the map every now and then for a quick check).

Oof! No way I'm watching 7 hours worth of cutscenes, I guess I'll read the timeline.

It'll be grim, difficult, and you'll get no sense of importance or meaning.

Just play Ground Zeroes in preparation and listen to all the tapes. Or watch a speedrun + cutscenes if you dont have it.

Daft question, but for those with experience of Simply Games - if I pre-order now, is there *any chance* it'll get here prior to the weekend?

I've used them before. Usually same day dispatch before 3pm. I got Witcher 3 3 days early from them.

I ordered MGS today at 12 as I couldn't wait till my birthday to play it as a present. I got a dispatch text at 16:11 so I should get it tomorrow. If you order now it should get dispatched tomorrow for a Friday delivery.

The only blocker in this is how shit Royal Mail is in your area. They're absolutely shite in the north east.

Cheers. I'll give it a go, nothing to lose really.

How do you know I'm from the North East? *Quietly looks around for cipher drones*

Also, happy birthday-ish :)
