Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain | Review Thread | Words That Kill

I won't lie to anyone, if Konami kept putting out games from a good team I'd probably still be interested.

I mean they've got the Fox Engine. If they just produced MGSV VR missions until the end of time, I'd probably buy everyone of them. I just hope they don't try to emulate Kojima's style.

No spoilers - but I would like to know if there are a lot of bosses and are they varied in their methods of attack? I love MGS3:SE's bosses the best of all the boss battles in the Metal Gear saga - how do MGSV:TPP's bosses compare?

I just read that:
There's bosses
You have complete freedom in how you choose to fight them, which sometimes equals to somewhat exploiting the system and making the fights a lot easier than intended.

For me it really depends on what "team" they have left to work on the series and what sort of replacements they will hire to replace key roles no longer filled by the more well known guys. Then it's a case of what the fuck do they want to do with the next game? Keep it part of the overall lore? Reboot? Mobile?

I dunno, it's a very fucking grey area and with everything that went down this year my optimism and desire to even entertain the future of MGS is at an all-time low. This is Konami we're talking about. They're either going to try and show that they still want to maintain the high standards of the series or they're going to go off the deep end and make bad decision after bad decision.

For now I'll just relish Kojima's swan song and be happy we're getting TPP. For now it's a good time to be a MGS fan.

God damn it...

SOMEONE SEND ME AN EARLY COPY

Why am I still here?

Just to suffer?

Every review...I can feel my heart, my soul...even my deprived fingers...

The hours I've lost...the days I've lost...won't stop hurting...it's like they're all still here

You feel it too, don't you?

I'm gonna make Konami give back our past....

I'm afraid it's been 9 years

Yeah after seeing what happened to Silent Hill, I don't have a lot of faith in how they treat their big name franchises--and MGS is pretty much the last quality one they have. They'll either realize they need to restructure the way they look at the video game industry, their employees, their IPs, and their customers, or I'm pretty sure we'll see them sink in the next few years.

On the other hand, Kojima's exit may have them in a panic mode that I could see motivating a true change there.

We receved today the collector's edition in Chile:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ep8lMiu0k2o

Problem is... it doesn't have any DLC codes (the Day One edition has it).

We're waiting for an official answer from Konami.

Anyone can confirm if your edition has codes?

now, this is worrisome... it is supposed to be in a code inside the game case adds, is it not there?

sure, but from uk you won't find it, there is a bundle from amazon.fr
here http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B00ZFUJNZ8/

The one that will almost certainly be on YouTube in a week?

Having it in your collection to me is much better than watching it on Youtube, I prefer physical shit but that's just me. Plus, knowing Kojima, the video and audio quality will be stunning on bluray much like MGS4's documentary disk was which is damn good if no one has ever seen it before.

There's less pop-in, especially when using binoculars.

What about overal improvement in terms of textures effects / assets? Always in comparison with GZ of course. I am just curious if the engine got tweaked further in the time between GZ and MGSV release.

Wow, looks nice. The arm is bigger than I thought it would be. The case seems to be made out of some type of faux leather? Does it have a leathery feel to it?

DLC codes usually get emailed or printed on the receipt, no?

As for the map, idk. Is it confirmed not in the game case?

Nah, no confirmation so far. The people who did the unboxing said there were no codes or anything but in the video they didn't actually open the case so who knows.

Just to correct myself it's the regular EU version of the game, CE is up in the air at this point but I'm sure we'll know in the coming days.

Ah righto. Fingers crossed eh?

this is not the place to post these, tbh..

some would consider it a spoiler

In this particular case I don't think so, but let's please have the courtesy towards other not to just post images from the game in a Review Thread.

I think a lot of this would be solved by having the |OT| up. Hopefully that can happen sooner rather than later. Maybe by bringing attention to Mods about it.

If someone is that hard of a blackout on MGS:V info then they wouldn't be in this thread.

yeah, I agree
It was just a pic of DD. There's another spoilery one from 4chan I didn't post.

said it just in case some would be "spoiled"
(I didn't know **minor spoiler from the image above**
DD lost his eye since a little pup, for example
)

OTs are now posted only until release date, which is pretty far away for now :/

I think that was shown in official gameplay footage though. I know about it and havent even watched a single trailer or any leaked stuff

Well, the CE comes with two cases so someone should check both just to make sure because from all the people who got the regular version of the game today and yesterday, all of them have the map and day 1 DLC code.

Wow that collectors edition arm is not life sized and looks so tacky.

Only the JP CE(Premium edition) has the life size arm. Then again, it's also 250-300$ retail if I am not mistaken, since it's now sold out, you're looking at 350$+

Getting annoyed at all the conflicting information about this "true" ending. I don't replay games so don't see myself going back to get this ending. I also don't follow guides or anything so it's impossible to know what I have to do to get this ending.

Who thought this was a good idea?

Listen/Watch here around the 21st minute. It's explained well.

Have you played Peace Walker? It was excatly the same kind of structure.

One thing I noticed from that unboxing was that the game didn't have a day one banner on the top.

Well it says it's half-scale in all the advertising bud. Japan has the life-size, albeit more expensive version. And I think I prefer the smaller one anywho. Makes more sense if you actually want to have it around and on display as it won't take nearly as much room as the big one.

Has there been any word on how the last gen versions will run? I'm not planning on getting a PS4 (or Xbone) anytime soon as there's nothing that really interests me all that much, but Metal Gear is my favorite gaming franchise of all time, so I'm not sure if getting MGSV on 360 and then further down the line on PS4, or just cave and upgrade and get the current gen version right now.

Fox Engine is black magic, apart from resolution, it runs the same if I am not mistaken.

Ah my mistake, didn't realise only the Japanese Edition had the life sized arm.

Makes me wonder why people are buying the weird tiny one though

On the last gen consoles resolution is lower, framerate is 30fps (Not sure about how stable), some effects may be missing, draw distance is lower, texture resolution is lower.

Thanks for correcting me. Yeah, I haven't kept an eye on last gen versions but if he has the means to get it for this gen then I'd recommend it but even then, the engine is still black magic.

Even though the game is lighter on story going back and watching the first uncut 9 minute trailer..my god. What story there is is going to be so dark! I think any kind of light material will be left to the gameplay and funny sandbox situations that come with it.
