From my experience, I feel like I've been banned over what amounted to a poor interpretation on the moderator's part. So with that said, I think I would try and touch base with a potential ban candidate if I feel they are getting close to crossing the line. Neogaf has a system of temp ban them to warn them and ban them for good if they don't comply too many times. I feel like there should be a method of moderating that is just below temp banning. Something that allows a user to either change or explain his actions without a direct punishment taking place. This would be mainly for situations where the person is not outright doing something that is a clear violation that deserves a banning.
