I don't really mind this but that may be because I grew up with Bollywood films where action heroes goof around like this all the time. However, it doesn't suit Big Boss specifically, a younger character like say Eli would have been better.
Sometimes I feel that if I ever met Kojima in real life, I'd shake his hand and then slap him while calling him a pervert, "Oh Kojima-senpai, you're so hentai!"

Is there footage of this or something? All I've seen suggesting that you can control Eli at some point is in the data file, the only player types are:

PlayerType
SNAKE
DD_MALE
DD_FEMALE
LIQUID
AVATAR

But no screens or anything.

Also, man, I started playing at 10pm last night and didn't put the controller down until 8:20am lol, this game is definitely going to be GOTY!

I don't know about playing Eli (I don't think it is possible). Volgin is now held in a Cell like Quiet before him. We could use Quiet as buddy when we captured her, I am not sure if we can use him as buddy but I assumed that seeing Quiet's case

Only D-Horse, DD, D-Walker and quiet are buddies. Would have been awsome taking Volgin out on a rampage!

When is a mod going to bring this thing back on track? You're going in circles here - first it's that you wish everyone would finish the game and reflect on it before discussing it - but at the same time you knowingly entered a topic about ending spoilers before the game's release that cannot possibly be filled exclusively with people who have finished it - then it's about people who have played it (but not finished it necessarily?), which is a good chunk of us now.

So which is it? Do you understand that this is a topic about ending spoilers being discussed before the game's release, or do you want people not to discuss it before it's released (and therefore, why are you in this topic)? Are you going to complain about being in a topic you're just inherently at odds with and nag people to stop talking about things, or get back on topic and reveal spoilers since you've obviously completed it?

In before you arbitrarily label me as angry or sexually repressed :D

I feel like a certain Dead or Alive track from 1985 would be appropriate here :P

But it seems that you can play as Eli/Liquid at some point. Would be nice to know if you can free roam with him. And maybe control the Metal Gear with him. Since he fits in the cockpit.
 
If I can throw Liquid off the platform repeatedly this will be the game I've been waiting for since 98.

Even if it results in a game over, in that brief moment I can rest knowing that Snake never gets FoxDie, and chills in Alaska mushing peacefully for the rest of his days. No Raiden, no Mt Snakemore, just a man who defeated the greatest soldier who ever lived with a bottle of hairspray and a lighter. Probably does wonder from time to time why he has the exact same face as the president of the united states though...

I'm really not, the concepts I'm trying to communicate to you are very simple ones. I came into this thread a few days ago for three simple reasons:

1) to quell any bullshit leaks and confirm the proper ones (as speculation concerning false leaks will only create more attention to these kind of spoiler threads)

2) to convince people to consume as few spoilers as possible in order to get an optimal experience

3) to find people who have also played the game in its entirety, like journalists or retailers. Which is working, by the way; Free7hinker would not have contacted me on Twitter had he not seen my posts on here

And now that the spoilers have been confirmed (and I've been vindicated of doubt and accusations) I'm sticking around to defend a few elements of the game that I personally found well done, but others are criticizing out of context. Not in order to feel better about my own judgements, but because I honestly think the game deserves it and because I genuinely enjoy the discourse (most of the time).

It's very simple: my desire to see gamers/like-minded fans play this game unspoiled does in no way conflict my desire to discuss the game's mechanics, narrative and structure with those who have legitimately played the thing. I know you feel attacked by my earlier posts and feel like you should counter-attack, but there is not aggression here; only an honest regret that people like you (who have not been privileged enough to play it early like yours truly) are choosing to ruin the impact of the experience due to morbid curiosity. Which is something I completely understand (I'm not sure I'd be strong enough not to buckle) but I still find regrettable.

Lol the most it's gonna be is that it's age appropriate. Like we haven't put up with worse with the photo mode in MGS4. Other than that didn't she dislike rain? This sort of interaction based on weather is actually kind of neat to me.

Makes sense, and I think we got off on the wrong foot. Here's a shit image of a hatchet being buried (best I could find surprisingly). Also I totally saw your message before you edited out the last line (I know it was a joke) :P

To get this thread back on track into spoiler territory, can someone confirm there's no version of Solid Snake/David that appears? I know it's assumed that Eli is Liquid, but I've heard that there's not even an allusion to Solid (no brown-haired Eli twin character model in a background scene or anything of that sort - just nothing). Kind of a bummer if that's the case, but oh well.

Weird. What was that scene in a trailer of two Elis in a helicopter? Just some weird visual metaphor?
 
Has there been any mention of Grey Fox at all in TPP? Either in a conversation or just a cassett tape? He should be a friend of Big Boss by this point in time but yet we haven't seen them officially meet once outside of MG1&2/ PO. Guess if Konami hadn't sacked Kojima we could have gotten a TPP Subsistance from the real Big Boss's POV (jk).

Is there any form of stand in for the cyborg ninja trope character that I'm missing? Also are the Paz scenes flashbacks?

Anyone have the collectors guide yet? I wanted to know if the extra content was worth it. The Shinkawa lithograph is enough but I'm still interested in the rest. Hopefully GameStop didn't sell out of those, they cancelled my CE game.

Well cancel the preorder if you want, but it makes your blood boil? You're that furious about a corny sex scene in a Metal Gear game? Why did you preorder after Paz scenes, Eva scenes, etc. in the previous games?

Honestly pre-order cancelled is kind of a common joke and I wasn't entirely serious.
I had no problem with the EVA scenes because the entirety of MGS 3 was made up of James Bond tropes. Paz had one single solitary instance of a sort of creepy date mission but is balanced by the fact that her character is a master manipulator with an interesting background. She pretends to be a dumb blonde to fool everyone else. Plus, Kaz gets a date mission too. The Beauty photo shoots were dumb but sort of hidden away. Meryl's ass was a one time joke that didn't even get a callback in MGS 4.

Now it's 2015, people are wanting less sleaze in their games and here comes Quiet with her bouncing tits and absurd outfit with very poor or ridiculous justifications for why she is the way she is. Everything about her is exploitative, they may as well go add a Hot Coffee mode where all the soldiers at Mother Base take turns with her while you as Bog Boss take pictures that you can sell online for extra GMP. And despite all the above bullshit... at her core she is an interesting character but the most you'll get is some tapes. At a certain point one's patience wears thin. Let's just stop posting about Quiet altogether because her only purpose seems to be to provoke reactions from puritans like me.

There is sleaze in other games but it has context. GTA V & Mass Effect are notorious but the ME romance scenes are mostly tasteful. (Besides Miranda Lawson)
I will play the game though despite the giant black mark it has for me. Or perhaps I'll kill Quiet the moment we meet to preserve some sense of dignity and save us the embarrassment

I just saw the truth. Where were the other cutscenes? The one of Paz or the one where venom walks through bodies of dead kids in Africa and then goes onto his knees? The diamond dogs fighting? Where did Eli and the st84 go?

Got an email from GameStop saying I could pick up my preorder on 9-1 and down at the bottom there is a banner for MGO that says it's coming 10-6. This is news to me, had no idea metal gear online was a month out from release.

What do you think about people who don't care for playing the game, or any Metal Gear really, but love reading about all the information, whether it's in order or not

I mean, up until earlier this week most of my Metal Gear knowledge was small parts taken out of context by Newgrounds, NeoGAF and other places.

Sometimes it's quite nice to go into a film or game knowing bits from it because then you can read deeper into parts. For example, all the people who are like "They made it obvious we weren't playing as BB because of what people say."...they have the chance of read into all the hints that Kojima left and get to see the game in a new light than how they would if they didn't get spoiled.


I know there is the "You can just replay it to see parts and explore the deeper meaning", but some people don't have time for that. Hell, when I was watching Metal Gear Solid 4: The Movie with my friend (who's only played MGS 1-3), when he got confused, I could explain parts to him clearer because I had read chunks about the game in the 7 years before.


I'm still looking forward to Kefka Production's MGSV: The Movie even though I know the plot because i'll be able to follow it better with all the knowledge I have gained.

Or perhaps it's a combination. Sleaze is fine as long as their is better representation elsewhere.
Yeah, that words and deeds thing was a very dumb thing to say.
What does it take to unlock the Sniper Wolf outfit and does it appear in cut-scenes?

Quiet would have been better off as comic relief, going "meep! meep!" every time she rockets off to a new location.

I got spoiled on it elsewhere. So here I am.
The whole "You will feel ashamed of your words and deeds" thing is super terrible in hindsight.
But MGS has always been the best/worst dumb anime bullshit, and that's why I love it.
