My Day 1 code worked fine. Are you saying yours doesn't? Maybe I'll try again tomorrow but it's not a good sign when the game has been out for the better part of a day in Australia!

The Day one code (
for the Adamski gun etc...
) worked just fine but the second one linked to MGS online which was also in the box does not. Neither does the GZ code I got when buying retail at launch. I've had the game since last Friday and tried them straight away and again last night.

How do you hold up an enemy with your gun consistently? All I got was alerts when moving behind an enemy with weapon pointing at him, sometimes if you ready your gun at a certain range he'll react to it and freeze sometimes it doesn't work.
You can simply sneak up and then aim. The reason why they are turning back to catch you is because your movements are too loud or you are approaching from the side (the guards never just look in one direction as they also look a bit to the left and right from time to time).

It was hard for me too but once I unlocked the sneaking suit I was able to get close without any issues. There is no real reason to hold up though, you can't shoot radios or get dog tags or such.

Oh nice, just finished Mission 4 and got my first GZ safe transfer staff as a "Special Volunteer"
It's Hideo

Look at them nice stats for the beginning:

MGO code won't work until MGO is live and the GZ code isn't needed, I think they're just using the save game instead.

Holy shit, guys.

I bought the game this morning, and started it up shortly after -- I thought i'd stop for a break, at which point I saw that the in-game clock had clocked in at 9 hours, straight. Around 7% total.

I know I needed a break because my sneaking missions had gone to shit and were just turning into improvised action sequences -- and whilst fun, not as satisfying as your top-tier sneaking.

That intro though guys, goddamn that was strong.

Also! The ground zeroes transfer was so worth it just for the laugh of that cameo.

Bloody hell didn't realize guards automatically come up the stairs after you get the intel

Had to kill them all :(

Tiny very early game spoiler

I'm in the same boat. Day 1 code worked fine. But the MGO code doesn't at all.

On the back it says "MGO Additional Content will be available for download when MGO releases at a later date."

Soooo I'm not sure whether its normal to not be redeemable yet or it should be and the download just doesn't start until release date..anyone know??

Also my GZ save data won't upload :(
I got it with PS Plus and have the save on the system and uploaded to the cloud. Not sure what's wrong.

OK, same problem with me then. MGO code net working yet I would understand, I'd expect the GZ Mother Base Staff code to work by now though.

Ah, OK. I was looking for something like that on the sheet but there was too much tiny text!

I feel like the intro is setting up for some classic Kojima mindfucking, so in that sense I like it. If it was an intro for any other game series I'd probably hate it though.

I'm loving the game for sure. My only complaint is minor, and that's the cassette tapes. I hate how Ocelot starts talking over them when you approach a mission objective. I wish they'd fix it and have the tape automatically pause and resume. I really like how they allow the story to be told as you're playing the game, but I find myself stowing away somewhere safe to listen rather than listening as I play. Kinda defeats its own purpose

You have to load up Ground Zeroes -- it got a patch yesterday or the day before that added a "Upload save data for The Phantom Pain" option in the main menu, upload your save data via that -- not the standard Playstation cloud save data.

Overhype? just how I feel about it personally, for me the intro was worth that kind of reaction as a Metal Gear Solid fan. But I'll respect others opinions on it.

I didn't feel it overstayed it's welcome, I look forward to doing it all again.

Oh, I'm a giant MGS fan too. I really dug a lot of it. The problem was the so many people were throwing around 'mindblowing' and 'one of the best intros ever', I was totally prepared for at least one crazy plot twist (maybe almost Raiden level), crazy cameos, amazing story stuff/developments.

Instead it's just a really good action sequence. Pretty vacuous aside from how well directed it is.

Still great, a masterpiece of direction. And of course I'm glad you love it. But it was oversold by many, imo.

Ahhh thanks bud!!

Well... to me the intro leaves with a lot of questions: why has the fireguy the same shrapnel wounds as BB. Is Ishmael == BB? (he says "you are talking to yourself") What about the psycho girl? The references to language again (first quote in the Intro). The doctor first talking a foreign language. I think it is more than just a action sequence

Seriously how are you supposed to sneak past the
skulls
in the
rescue Miller
mission.

huh? That pretty easy.
Mount your horse, go down under the bridge and up again on the other side. than wait until they are where you were first und cross the bridge.

That's what was the most interesting part of it, at least for me.

The girl that kills the doctor and flies out the window on fire looked like Quiet -- first big question, she seemed dead as fuck -- haven't encountered Quiet so I might be wrong, anyone who knows, please don't correct me either way, this is just fun speculation.

Also! The fact that it put you into a fucking character creator for Ishmael, I assume, I guess he looks partially like your custom character under the mask, I created a generic white guy, so it was hard to tell. But yeah, is that the real BB? Or was that part of the hallucination? maybe, but not necessarily -- Ocelot saw the fucking fire bloke, so some of it's real, perhaps the hallucination part is a red-herring, so we can question every thing in that intro all the way until the end.

So yeah, that intro was more than just the text, I don't fully understand it, but there's far more going on under the surface that is hopefully going to have some light shed on it as we go on.

(Smacks head) Seriously is that all you had to do, when I first completed the mission I just simply rode right past them.

WTF, companion app only works on recent iOS devices. I have a 4th gen iPad, that should be enough for a damn companion app. It's not like this is some high end iOS game that uses the metal api or something.

Why the char creation anyway? It confused me as hell. Is this for MP? I though it was for BB and as the doctor told you, it's so people don't recognize you. Why put that effort into it? The character creation was quite huge and detailed.

Yep, same here (4th gen). This realy sucks :/

I bet it's used for MP too, but I wonder if that specific character will reappear later in the story, as you designed -- I'm hoping it pays off, until then I'm just kind of glass-half-full on it

^^^Spoilers for intro

Question:
So far the only thing I'm a little unsure about is the point of visiting Mother Base. There's shooting galleries/side-ops, you can fuck with your staff to raise moral, and the shower. All the cutscenes there so far happen automatically, too. Am I just too early in? Or is it mostly hidden little details?

Do we know if any of your single player and FOB stuff carries into MGO when i launches? It's 5:40am i have been in this internal debate from hell on what version to get (PS4 or PC) MGO is something i plan on spending a ton of time in and if the stuff i do right now is going to help or come along with me in MGO then PS4 is the clear answer since MGO launches way early on consoles.

Was hoping for more an event with doggy.

I hope Mother Base opens up more soon. It's kinda sad going back there and wandering around Big Shell-esque environments but with nothing to do except take a shower.

...hope it gets proper showers.

...so I can have a naked fistfight with Miller in one

Didn't work for me, got caught instantly. Just ran like hell and got away.

Got a rank B :(

I'm useless atm, got even deal with lowly guards. Keep missing my tranq shots.

So I downloaded my GZ save file, do my prisoners become staff instantly or do I discover and extract them? Also how do I get the
different skins/characters?

Somebody posted a photo of the guide where it shows in what missions they join. So yeah, they join later on, in the earlier missions.

I'm 25 hours in and am ready to go to
Africa
and haven't really found much to do at my somewhat expanded motherbase yet besides shower, target practice and look for diamonds.I'm hoping I'm just missing something but It's a tedious place to explore extensively in the hope of maybe finding something to do.
