Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain PC performance thread

Man the prologue was epic.

Just got dumped into the open world and it's really intimidating (especially as I'll be playing without those silly assists like the slowmotion when you get spotted:p)

I also had the slowdowns at those 3 points, but otherwise it seems perfectly smooth (can't use MSI afterburner so can't see my framerate)

It's a really really really pretty game.

Are the controls akward in the map menu and when using the binos for anyone else? Holding F is just akward as shit, it should be a toggle.
I'm using an azerty keyboard and since it doesn't let me remap the map keybinds (what an oversight) the controls on the map screen are borked too.

I'll still be playing this with k/m obviously, aiming with a controller is pure cancer.

That 9 fps problem? Yeah I had that as well (first shot of the sink, glasses scene... something else). I think it is tied to the planar reflection system in the game. WHere it uses a viewport to rerender the world for a reflection or something. That has to be broken.

And yeah, the prologue is god damn awesome. Crazy good production values.

If I unlock more stuff in Ground Zeroes after the first save transfer to The Phantom Pain, will it be recognized by the latter?

Mostly 60fps, sometimes it drops during cut-scenes. There's some weirdness with how the framerate behaves. If I disable vsync, I get random stuttering. If I enable vsync, well, any framedrop will tank it to 30fps apparently. This is on borderless fullscreen.

Sounds like vsync in this game is double buffer. I haven't gotten past the intro as I had to leave for work.

Running flawless at 60FPS, with everything set to high except textures and texture filtering. Motion Blur set to medium.

i5-3507K @ 4.2 // 680 SLI 2GB // 16GB RAM.

Oddly, my afterburner is showing that I'm frequently hitting 2.3-2.7GB of VRAM. What's up with that?

I have both of them, what settings are you running? I have mostly high other than textures at very high and shadows at medium and am getting locked 60, I might have to turn some settings down even more to not stress my pc too much (it likes to randomly turn off in open world games, and no it's not overheating)

Where is the DoF setting etc? Isn't supposed to be there an advanced graphics menu? thanks

edit: I'M FUCKING BLIND

gonna tweak to get those 60 FPS on my 660ti

Help!

For some reason video playback in the games video cutscene has periods of severe stuttering in both TPP and GZ. When not stuttering playback is fine for several seconds at 60fps, then the stutter knocks it down to may be 5fps for a second, and repeat

Any ideas? The game itself is fine

The prologue ran flawlessly for me last night. Smooth is how I would describe the game, both the visuals and the controls. SLI support appears to be stellar right out of the box, which is quite welcome considering it's often not the case.

I've seen in a few places people reporting the game running at 4K with dual 980's (not Ti) at a solid 60 with everything maxed.... seems a bit of a stretch, but can anyone in here confirm this performance?

My 970's had no issue last night pushing 2560x1600 @ 60 w/ HBAO+...... but didn't try anything higher.

Played prologue segment and few minutes from start of Afghanistan. For most of the time game stays at locked 60, but drops to as low as 45 in some more demanding and hectic segments. I guess I could achieve locked 60 by dropping Effect to High as according Nvidia guide it has major hit on performance on Extra High.

Edit: Is there way to force skip on those mandatory cutscenes that come before main menu? Skip option to pop up takes forever.

Just adding to the noise: running a steady 1080/60 throughout the prologue and first mission.

i7 4790

970 in rendering duties.

Everything maxed, no HBAO+ shenanigans used.

It runs great, but two or three times during a cutscene I have had the framerate plummet. It seems like a bug, because nothing is happening on screen to warrant such a drop.

I didn't have speakers connected when I first fired this up this morning and had to skip the cutscenes before the titles loads, is it possible to replay/redo those cutscenes when I start this?

The in-game 30 FPS lock is super smooth for me. If anyone is wanting to lock it to 30 give that a try before messing around with something like Afterburner.

Coming from TW3, this game is super duper ugly. Really ugly.

It also crashed on me telling me I got not enough RAM. 8GB here. What's going on?

gtx 580 sli

game runs maxed out @ 60 fps flawlessly even on my outdated pc!

game looks gorgeous

The first thing I noticed was just how poorly the antialiasing implementation effects the image quality.

Even the Nvidia article discusses the issue.

On High, Post-Process Anti-Aliasing is enabled as it was in Ground Zeroes, and as before its quality remains uneven: moderate screen-wide blurring is observed in all scenes, yet aliasing remains on certain game elements, even at 4K. In Ground Zeroes, modders discovered a workaround to enable and disable specific elements of "Screen Filtering", allowing for the injection of superior post-processing solutions like SMAA, which tackled aliasing issues. Expect the same to occur here shortly after launch.

It's really nothing.

Go check gpu usage in Afterburner or similar program. I'd bet its only using one of your cards.

SLI is enabled and both cards are being used. However, I notice that MSI Afterburner is reporting that each card is running at a different clock speed.

After installing the new drivers last night, they automatically disabled SLI on my rig in control panel... might be worth checking that SLI is enabled.

Yeah happens every time you install new drivers. I did re-enable SLI after installing the new driver.

Will be running this on an i5 2500K @ 4.0GZ, 8GB of ram, and a 970. Can I set all sliders/video settings to max and get a locked 60 FPS at 1080p?

MGSV has been silky smooth on my 970, running maxed out at 2560x1440 downsampled to 1080p

How long until we get the "Extra" Extra High mod we have in GZ, those distance tweaks will make open areas look more amazing.

970 reporting in. Everything on Extra High at 1080P it is completely solid 60FPS without a single drop.

Using 2560 x 1440 DSR via nVidia it fluctuates between 51-60 FPS.
