Having put 35 hours into it now, I got to say that, while it looks nice AT TIMES, it's cross-gen-ness shows. The intro had a lot of rough spots, and there are a couple of cutscenes with laughable geometry and textures.

It doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game, but I wish we had gotten a truly next gen MGS.

Only got through the prologue and the very very beginning of Mission 1, but Boss is awfully quiet so far. Would really like to hear with Kiefer's bringing to the table.

Fire dude is an apparition of Volgin, the big bad of MGS3. Can't say for certain who the kid is although there's a boss from MGS1 that fits the critera
Um wtf, maybe mark that as late game spoilers? I'm pretty sure that person was asking within context of what MGS fans would know at that same point (I'm past mission 31 and I didn't know this).

Enjoying the game but someone really needs to improve on the whole gathering materials to upgrade stuff system. Feels so wrong to be gathering herbs and materials as big boss to upgrade stuff. I mean it made sense in mgs3 to feed myself because well I had to eat and I was alone but now? Don't I have people to do that stuff for me? You'd think big boss would have other more important things to keep him busy.

I got a code with the game, doesn't seem to like me, I am getting "The Prepaid Card code you entered is incorrect or is no longer valid" :<
If it's only for online stuff I won't care too much, bit shitty that isn't not working though.

Is the stuff not working foe MGO? It might not be up yet. If you have a code for day 1 stuff try that, that should be working

Well to be fair this game was probably not supposed to release this late into the generation.

I'm really looking forward to going back through all the missions to complete objectives and S-Rank.

I've even collected a healthy amount of S-Ranks already.

Make sure to listen to the cassette tapes. While they aren't as a good as a cutscene, they add a lot to the plot, and Boss speaks a ton in them

I'll try that thanks. :) This seems counter intuitive because the sprint button is L3 on snake, and it does nothing on DH.

Don't worry, I had the exact same problem. It's definitely counter-intuitive, but I knew something was up, so I went into the controls display in the menu and toggled it to "horse" to get the full control set. Lo and behold, speed up was there. Lol.

I'm 35 hours in, and he's said maybe 20 lines of dialogue in cutscenes.

Most of his talking is in the audiotapes.

The one I've been most vocal about on here is the lack of climbing cracks. The game tells you to go anywhere and take whatever approach to the game you want...as long as it doesn't include sniping or approaching from any vertical surface. In my 30 hours of play time I've maybe seen 2-3 climbable surfaces. An example is just now I had to run around a cliff-side (for a good 5 minutes) to get to an objective. When I could have just climbed up the cliff face if it allowed me. And I can get up there because there was a road. So it basically forces me to run around tracing the geometry until I can actually go the place I want to go. This has pretty much killed my interest in side ops and if i slide down one more surface I think I'm going to scream. This issue is even more noticeable in the second area.

The second one is not being able to fast travel between areas on the map. Say I want to do 2 side ops. I have to either walk/drive/horse from A to B or go through the helicopter loading screen. It's a baffling stupid design choice. Especially when you can do it travel in between Motherbase struts. (Yeah I can use delivery boxes but its stupid not letting me use the helicopter. It makes no sense.)

Not massive issues by any means. But after 30 hours they are putting a serious damper my enjoyment of the game.

A) I think you're right about the climbing. There really aren't many options. I'm 15 hours in and I've found 3 but there have been at least 6 other opportunities for them. One time I even had Miller say 'There's a fissure you can climb. Try climbing it for a good vantage point' and I swear there wasn't one nearby.

B) You can use the cardboard box fast-travel in the main maps. You just need to find the invoices in each base. It's a fantastic system imo.

Also on Mother Base, after I upgraded my chopper, I can press Square once I've pulled myself onto the chopper to fly around to a different part of the Mother Base. It's really badass. But I don't think this functionality is active in the hotzone maps because enemies would just see you and the whole region would raise its alert level constantly.

Side op 12 bugged for anyone else? It never completes for me. I get the guy, go to the copter. And then it appears on my list again as if I never get it.

It looks visually consistent. Well, at least Afghanistan does. I didn't like the look of
Africa
much; the foliage just isn't on fleek.

Question regarding how to recruit Quiet:
So which of Quiet's two health bars am I suppose to be draining to recruit her? The red or the blue? I thought I read it didn't matter, but I don't want to mess up.

Anyone know how to delete your save?
Do not click the spoiler tag if you haven't beaten the game!
I really want quiet back, other buddies are lame. I'd rather restart then do all side ops and s ranks, with her

Guys I am a bit confused as to how Phantom Cigar works.

Can I actually stop the flow of time whenever I want or is it moving the time forward a specific amount of time?

I got both the JP Coll. Ed. and the JP Premium Ed. today. Based on the backside of the packages the CE has english audio and 7 or so different subtitles whereas the JP PE has japanese audio only and japanese AND english subtitles.

for JP version having English subtitles...it had English text for everything like menu/UI too right? Not just dialogue subtitles?

The EU/AU version has Japanese language option including menus. I assume if the Japanese version has English language option, that would include menus too.

In her case, doesn't matter.

Traditionally in MGS you'd get a little bonus for using tranquilisers/CQC to lower the enemy's stamina (blue bar). Like you'd get their camo pattern or weapon something.

This frustrated me, too. You have to unuequip it like any other item.

> so hold Left and click R3 on it to activate Phantom Cigar
> let time pass a bit
> tap Left to unequip it like any other item and stop time advancement

You'll fail certain missions if they go beyond a day or two.

Fleek?

That's sad to hear. I'll be trying the PC version tomorrow and I'm interested to see how much better the foliage is. Comparison screens showed a big improvement.

How?
There is nothing to connect Volgin to the flame dude.
Besides the exact same clothing, both his trenchcoat which burns off and his orange jumpsuit, reflecting bullets and carrying bullets between his fingers?

As for Mantis, it's a little esper kid with a gas mask that floats around, has a straight jacket that makes him look like he has mantis arms and has a pechant for burning things. It would be at the very least a massive red herring

Oh.
I guess that makes sense, I always mentally pictured Volgin with the coat.

You can really see it here.

This thread is killing me. Managed to play the Prologue last night before having to go to bed for work. 6.5 hours to go :|

Press left on the dpad to cancel it whenever you want

Thanks a lot guys, I really think I tried unequiping it, but i guess it takes sometime instead of instantly stopping , so that is why I never understood how it worked.

Much obliged.

A lot of people had issues with this mission its tougher when you have to play it on extreme lol.

Rocket launcher is need, you can't run away or so you have to face them. Run and shoot with the rocket launcher ensure you request a supply drop of ammo prior to engaging them just in case you run out of ammo.

I fucked that up. I'll have to restart it then. I think I'll swap out Quiet for the horse too.

So as someone who has only played MGS2 & MGS4....

*prologue spoilers*
who the hell are this
fire dude and straight jacket child?
trippy intro, loved it.... just don't have the context.

Congrats on only playing the weaker games in the series. :P

Does anyone here have the official guide and can tell me if the included story recap is detailed or just a brief summary? Not sure if it is actually worth it.

Can invoices be revealed through interrogating soldiers?

I'm about 40 hours in and I haven't found a single invoice.

Remember people, you can always use your empty magazines. In regards to mission 16,
I had the fulton upgrade already so I fulton'd the truck after distracting the skulls away from the truck. Had to have abit of patience since their movement is slow but damn did it feel fucking satisfying for pulling it off without getting caught.

Reading how people finish missions and its damn nice the amount of ways you can do so.
