OK, so I got some impressions:

1. I quite literally always thought Hayter sucked, but holy shit, his absence is really striking and it sucks.

2. I'm a huge FarCry 2 fan if that means anything to anyone, and this game scratches that itch like a motherfucker.

3. I've been playing since midnight and I'm still playing. Shit's fucking gold.

1. It really really is.

Damn finished the first mission where you
assasinate some commander
but couldn't find
gunman
blueprints or do the other 3 hidden objectives

Hayter was bad but in a good type of bad. His voice is so damn iconic for this series.

Just came here to share my woes. For job reasons I won't be able to play the game until next week.
:(

So I hope that at least everyone here is really enjoying the game.

Didn't they pose as a CIA sanctioned outfit (which, by extension of working for Cipher/The Patriots) they technically were?

Thanks. I believe this answers it. Just did some research on Xof.

"They claimed to be a CIA based outfit and were used by Cipher" pretty much sums it up. So Skull Face got what he wanted from Paz while planting a bunch of seeds.

Spoilerish question regarding Quiet and her recruitment and use:
Any idea what I have to do so Quiet can come out and play? I have her in the brig, but is there something I have to do specifically so that she can be used?

I need some advice because I'm not sure I understand what the game wants from me.

I'm trying to play it mgs1-4 style but it's not working out so well:

-guards don't stay knocked out for very long
-I can't see any stars over the heads counting down that would indicate how close an enemy was to waking up from other MGS games
-sneaking up behind a guard to choke him out has a very small window usually (requires a ton of patience to learn his pattern and make sure no other guard patrols will see me) and I have to painfully slowly walk crouch up to him or he will hear me. Is this super slow walk crouch really how I'm going to choking guards all game? The walk is painfully slow.
-The open nature makes it very easy to lose track of one of the guards and get spotted (I usually get spotted while crouching past a window while inside a house it seems)

I've only done the prologue and the first mission but I was spotted a whopping 6 times during the first mission and got a C rank:(

Any beginner tips or general tips on how to approach combat?

Am I not supposed to take out guards one by one with cqc like in other MGS games?
The sleeping dart pistol was always kind of a 'cheat' to get past certain situations in a pinch or to use when cornered, so I'm reluctant to rely on it.

Am I not supposed to study their patterns and solve it like a puzzle like in older MGS games?

Anyone else getting sound lag? In the idroid and the game. I never had this problem until yesterday and I've had the game since last Thursday

I really hate the layout of the R&D strut. Where the fuck is the entrance to the
Battle Gear
hangar? I saw a cutscene once in it but I haven't been able to find it since.

Can someone with this edition of the steelbook confirm whether or not there is a UPC on the back cover or not?

Surprised (well not entirely surprised) to see people selling them by the stack on the bay. Are these legit? I noticed the cases on the ones being sold in bulk have a UPC on the backside (I've asked a couple of sellers and they confirmed it's printed on the case and not a sticker) vs someone selling just one case and there isn't a UPC.

Just trying to get a hold of one since the US didn't get the Shinkawa art, but I don't want a bootleg case even if the only diff is the UPC symbol.

Want to say I love and miss Hayter even if his last performance was pretty hammy, but Kiefer is fine tbh. He certainly sounds out of place next to what amounts to some decent but very anime voice acting. Kind of like that juxtaposition honestly. Also, this game is sooo much fun.

I had a problem with this too. The speed you have to use to sneak up and grab guards is extremely slow.

Keep your hand on that spacebar. If you round a corner into a guard you can flick and jump out of the way. Generally will investigate, but won't draw on alarm.

Apparently smoke grenades are OP for sneaky, but I'm as far as you in the game and haven't unlocked them yet.

Can you get the SneakSuit without importing your GZ saves? I have researched and bought it in TPP, but I never imported my GZ save. However, I have completed the GZ mission, and the save file is on my PS4. Would it read it on it's own?

Also- how can you tell what different camouflages are effective? I've been wearing the SneakSuit since I bought it, and it seems to be the best camo you can get? Or am I missing something?

Is there some indicator on camo effectiveness like in MGS3?

That intro is a psych majors wet dream. I don't even know where to start. I think i get some of it though especially toward the end.. Got an A which is cool too.

Does quitting after a checkpoint save my progress? The menu says "end mission and return to title menu"

Yes you will resume your game at the last checkpoint. I tried this last night in the middle of the second mission (bedtime) and was able to resume right where I quit.

Just been playing it for the first time, 7 hours straight. Surely my favorite MGS so far. Man, it's quite difficult with all assists off, but fun!

Anyone else run in to this issue?

Shit quality, but not real happy atm. Restarted 4 times and let it stay on this screen for 20 minutes. Nothing. PS4.

Just beat the hospital scene....holy fucking shit my balls exploded my god such amazing direction, the cinematography is simply amazing so far. The constant camera movement reminds me of the Raid movies filmed in Indonesia. This intro ties the last of us intro for me, so fucking impressed.

intro coulda been 20 minutes shorter

yah this plays like a much more elegantly designed far cry 2 which is a neat coincidence since i've always felt mgs3 heavily informed that game's design

ocelot mentions that punching out a guard knocks them out longer than choking

I'm trying to get the same steelbook but I have my doubts, specially with that price on ebay (almost $40 for one), if you find anything about it, please let me know

Did the Eye and the Finger switch names?
They do carry over if anyone was still unsure, also Kojima! Make sure to upload your data from the new option in GZ.

-Going prone and belly crawling to a guard and then holding them up or going in for cqc works great in the beginning, and still does later on. Tranq everyone!

-Make sure to try and mark most of the guards before infiltrating a base. Until you get DD this will help you a lot. Spin the camera often and check your corners Snake!

-The tranq gun has never been considered cheating to me at all. Its putting them to sleep. Unless you want to go in lethal with a supressor.

You've only done the first mission, well you will be able to develop useful gadgets and more importantly camoflage which will help you blend in naturally with the enviroment. Make sure to develop the ANIMAL camo as soon as you can! The Decoy is also very very useful as are the magazines you can throw. Sight, sound, smell, these are all things to keep in mind when infiltrating.

Yes you can learn enemy's patterns but mostly if you are playing sneaky you're gonna want to go prone a lot. Press square to dive down.

That fucking prologue killed me.....Kojima you amazing bastard.

I'm playing 1 hour at a time. I'm taking my time with this shit.
