I found I had a lot of fun when I decided to go lethal. Still as stealthily as possible, but decked out with lethal options.

The weapon progression isn't great. Playing non-lethally feels like being a vegetarian in a steakhouse; the options just aren't on your side. "You can use this pistol, and this rifle, and maybe this shotgun when you've played for 40 hours".
I thought the same the other day, I'm still using the tranq gun albeit a lvl 3 one.

If you have DD use him and visit the outposts, he'd sniff him out.

It's at the top, the door with a blue light on top of it.

Use D-Dog. He'll be somewhere.
Thank you guys! I totally forgot about DD, I tried using Quiet's scout ability but it didn't work.

By the way, am I gonna run into any random shit out in the wilds of Afghanistan Fallout style, starts of side ops etc, random encounters etc or is it all just giant canyon corridors based around the roads?

There are side ops, enemy encampments, and wild life. You can also trigger main missions while in free roam.

Finally, QUESTION:

Am I doings something wrong? I'm attempting to start up Mission 08, and it says I should have a rocket launcher - hell, the next several missions do. I've been doing side-ops here and there, and while I don't fulton everyone or even most... I do fulton from time to time. That said, my R&D is at 6... and I need a 12 for rockets. So, am I supposed to just dick around with side-ops and/or open world until I get to level 12 R&D?

Also, I was trying to do a side-op, and I skipped to Mission 11 by accident, just by running into the ruins on my way somewhere else (that power plant mentioned earlier). Nothing wrong with this, I imagine?

Thanks!

Keep fultoning whoever you find, that's what I did at first. Doing side ops help too. As for the mission you skipped, you can return to do it, it'll still be there.
Side Op 06

My style is non letal util they find me, then I go fully lethal until they kill me or I take the base/outpost
Very funny hahahah.
My only means of non leathal (which is always my first tactic) is CQC. All my weapons are lethal, and none of them have suppressors.

Most encounters end with me almost getting away, but then getting seen, and having to light the whole outpost up.

This game is made with lethal in mind. Like I said earlier, the S ranks have even been adjusted for this.

Is anyone getting massive motion sickness from this game? I just played 10-20 minutes of it, and I need to stop already.

is there a story reason why snake is so quiet during the game?

not looking for *the* reason if there is, a spoiler tagged yes or no would suffice.

Very early missable thing that's not that spoilery but I'm nice so I'll tag it anyway:

The thing in Big Boss' head is lodged in the language center of his brain. I don't think it's ever explicitly stated that it's difficult for him to speak English, but it is used to explain why he can't speak Russian any more, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch.

The one on the third floor just underneath the roundish structure at the top? I've been in there twice and nothing is happening. Is there some other prerequisite?

It's kind of hard to pinpoint the location I just climbed up and started searching till I found a white door with blue lights on top (you'll find another door with a red light as well on the opposite side)

Landing Zones: I'm asking for help here: I don't really love that, while it's open world, I'm constantly forced to run around giant mountains that I can't climb. For example, I was just about on my way to a power plant to get blue prints, and the LZ to start the mission is forever away... and I kept getting lost, as you can't just climb... you have to follow roads and it 1) takes forever, and 2) I don't love having to keep strolling past outposts or take them over. Is there a way to give yourself a "guide" to get to the destination? Seriously, I'm tired already of wandering this place. And, I guess I'll ask how others are playing? Do you typically have the heli pick you up after each mission/side-op, or do you wander to the next location?

...

...

And that's about it for the bad. I think I'm just having a very rough time adjusting to Open World MGS. It very well might grow on me, admittedly. It's just - I rarely enjoy open world games, and I'm already annoyed by some of the small stuff; and I know this is a long game.

Yeah, there are problems with some areas being off limits for landing zones at first, so all you have to do is to destroy the anti radar on those areas. That will help some landing zones to pop up.

Does anyone know if there's any way to extract transport trucks without the Fulton 2? I need it for a story mission and I'm not entirely sure how to get the upgrade.

I love how in mission 4 it was like
blow up all these communication towers! So, I marked all three, and then choked out everyone during a sandstorm and was looting. Walked into a random room with a bunch of communications equipment on a desk: "Oh, or you can just blow that one thing up." >_>;

Is there no way to check a soldiers rank before you fulton? For example, in the side ops to fulton the "specialists", how do you know which one is which?

Okay, very-very beginning question. Going to spoiler because it was a surprise to me:

The character creation thing: Is that my multiplayer avatar? I was really confused by that? And, if so, can I rename him? I'm on PC so it's irrelevant at the moment but if that's the screen name I have to use I'd rather restart or change it if possible.

Loving the game so far but, Kaz just told me I needed a Russian translator when I held up a guard. Did big boss forget how to speak Russian or something?

The episodic approach is so dumb. One of the very few Kojima style choices that I think just doesn't work. A lot of missions you do aren't even that story intensive, let alone requiring credits everytime. And it makes the most open Metal Gear or all feel more broken up. Super weird that he used that idea for V out of all of them. Would've been far more fitting in something like 4.

Solid Snake had a clear mission objective path in 4 which was take down Liquid.

V is a lot broader of a story where half the story is the rebuilding of MB through wet work and what some consider "filler episodes" in TV dramas.

Ah I think this is the place then. When I go in, just to the right a bit is a door with a red light and to the left is a small corridor with a sign blocking it. I suppose my med bay level needs to be at 3 before I can go down the corridor.

fuck these credits they ruining big moments example is the Bees mission why list character appearances at start of mission it so fucking stupid.

I still love SkullFace VA I loved it in GZ now it more sinister but they ruined Ocelot with Troy Baker it weakest I've heard him

I don't know if you have to level it or not, possibly. Doesn't hurt to try later!

The door on the right requires a certain side op to be completed
wandering mother base soldier
As for the corridor I'm curious about that too.

Turn off the camera shake in the options menu. That should help.

Just use your name. I don't think it's the screen name, just your profile name.

!!!super ultra ending spoiler do not click even if it doesn't actually mention content but it does imply something important!!!

I've seen people say the CE includes a video saying the true ending isn't in the game yet and will be patched in and you need 100% too see it. Is this legit or did I get rused?

I think the credits are pretty nifty, goes with the episodic feel they want with the game.

Just finished the Honey Bee mission, wow this game is fantastic! I love how some of the missions take close to an hour (Or maybe I'm just slow) and cover so much space, it really makes them feel epic.

Mother Base is a bit confusing still, I can't find the med bay or any of the animals I've fultoned. While it's a cool little hub it seems a tad pointless so far.
