Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

I don't like Chun's hairstyle in this alt costume, I prefer the version of this costume they included in SFIV, which was simply perfect.

Shirt-less Ryu with damaged pants and beard is a great idea, but this hobo-like look doesn't work very well for me because I always assign this kind of beard to hairy chest and similar. I know Japanese guys aren't hairy people, but I'd say it would be for both things: chest and beard.

I was just saying that if Karin is announced at TGS, then that pretty much shows that Siliconera's rumors were true. They said Mika, Karin, Alex, and Urien were in. I'd expect Alex and Urien to be PSX/Capcom Cup reveals if those character rumors are accurate.
I bet Karin for TGS, Alex for NYCC.

Sakura and Karin are going to dress like schoolgirls, you guys.
Hopefully in their classic alt costume, and they choose a slightly older look keeping their spirit, personality and colors. And well, I see Sakura as an unlockable/DLC character not included in the initial roster.

Sakura (when she's added as DLC) and Karin are going to dress like schoolgirls, you guys.
FTFY. I feel like Rainbow Mika will be Karin's rival for SFV rather than Sakura. Speaking of the base roster, here's my guess as to how the future reveals will go.

  • Dubai Games15: Rashid
  • Tokyo Game Show: Karin
  • Brazil Game Show: Laura
  • New York Comic Con: Alex
  • Paris Game Show: Zen
  • PlayStation Experience: Urien

So no Alex ?or are they revealing new characters later?

Alex is in if the Siliconera rumor is correct. As of now they still have three returning characters and three completely new characters left to unveil.

We are expecting a reveal for the Dubai event?
Havent been following news to that.

Yes, Ono will be there on the 11th to show something. People are expecting another completely new character to the series.

He'll be there on the 11th? Hmm maybe I can make it? FYI the event starts on the 10th.
Will have to see which of my friends or brothers are free at that time.
Dubai's roads are not ones I want to tackle alone :v

BGS and NYCC are going to happens at same weekend so I guess we are more likely to get Laura. It would be great if we get both at once.

Neoxon, what about Paris show?
I'm honestly not sure about Paris. Maybe Urien could be shown at PlayStation Experience while Zen is at Paris.

Absolutely Rachid's reveal is imminent, along side a new stage. That, and we will get a returning character announcement the following week at TGS as well.

No, it's not Karen, it's Cody.

Please. No more blondes.
Cody is they only one left that matters.

That character would be so interesting with SFV mechanics. So much potential and possibilities.

Also...don't hate me...but I think it's about time that Capcom removes SF3 from the game's canon. The games themselves are awesome and so are the characters, but the story just makes everything so much more complicated.

Have you seen Nash's forehead? Sf3 is real breh.

I hope this game has a fleshed out story mode. Something entertaining and thought out like Mortal Kombat's.

These characters seem too random. I highly doubt there is going to be a story.

The original SFV leak mentioned that Capcom knows that they screwed up the story mode in SF4, and that V's would be much better. Ono also had this to say about MK9's story mode

I also have a penchant for wacky, over-the-top games so I’ve been playing a lot of Mortal Kombat, enjoying their Story mode. And they did such a good job with their Story mode and some of the other features that I feel like they kind of beat me in that sense. So I’m playing these other fighters and enjoying them, but sometimes it depresses me, too.

Matt Dahlgren talked a little bit about the story mode as well.

"We are paying attention to how everybody handles story related content, and we will be doing things differently this time around for Street Fighter 5, but we'll be sharing details on that at a later date," said Dahlgren.

As a follow up, I wondered if he could say where in the timeline SF5 takes place, but he said that's something that will revealed when they start talking about story related content.

Since they're being coy about when this game takes place, my guess is that they'll reveal a SFIII character on the same date they reveal their story plans.

I'm not one to care about a story mode actually having a story, but it would be nice if there was a challenge mode that taught you things. There could be a series of fights with cpu opponents where the player is limited in some way (beat this opponent using only HK) or special requirements (stay within a certain range of this opponent for 5 seconds without being thrown) and stuff like that to help players learn tactics, not just comboes.

In fact, capcom should do a user generated content thing and let people create challenges or training exercises and upload them for everyone to try. They could give special channels to famous players which might get the casual community more engaged with the competitive scene and the pro sponsors could do some simple advertising (like logos, nothing intrusive). I'm thinking stuff like "block this attack sequence and then punish with this attack sequence." The tech to record a dummy action is already in there. The incentive to create would be fight money I guess. And you'd earn some for completing challenges too.

Now here's my question, what about Alex? He & Ryu didn't meet until the events of SF3. If he's gonna be in SFV, does that mean the game takes place after SFV or is Capcom making it to where Ryu & Alex never meet within the game's story?

Eh I would advise not to hold much hope in the story, that way you will either
a) Not be disappointed
b) Be thoroughly surprised by how fine and not sucky it is :3

Could be that the story starts before SF3 and then ends after it.

Or they could just retcon stuff.

Plus, like you said about the SF3 characters, Juri would be perfect as DLC.

Very true. Juri is really popular in Asia so you could argue she'd be good to push initial sales or to push DLC sales.

Though with Mika & NeoVega in, I'm satisfied with the cast right now. I'm just interested to see what the new characters are like.

Am I crazy to believe that SF5 will "replace" SF3 in the storyline, the same way MK9 replaced 1-3? It could also make the SF3 cast's SF4 appearances "canon".

Well the SFA games were mostly about the character's journey, at least that's what SFA2 is like.

That style is just outdated and needs to go , theres no need to make up a story for everyone. 90% of the time its just some BS they make up Like Ibuki looking for dicks. Its just so weird that the fanbase needs to pick up relevant characters and make up a canon.

Just make one main story and throw in all the involved characters. The way MK does it is perfect.

Still not convinced Alex & Urien are making the main roster

they need some more illuminati players for the story, though. between Alex and Urien, I see the latter getting shafted if anything. I dunno, I guess I wouldn't be too shocked regardless of if they're in or not. it kind of doesn't matter because DLC is clearly going to be healthy

I hope it does that . SF2 and SFA are fairly coherent , but in SF3 everyone disappeared except the shotos and Chun. So yea they could just retcon SF V story as SF4 -> SF3.

I definitely believe either Zen or Rashid are really going to be key to Illuminati/Shadaloo story stuff--North Africa and India both being home to extremely significant ancient civilizations. Probably not both, since Necalli is obviously linked to Illuminati, too. Then again, we might see characters in the story who will be DLC later (in fact, that'd be a cool way to 'tease' upcoming characters if they do some cool shit in story scenes).

We don't have a 360/720 grappler yet, right? I'm assuming R. Mika is a half-circle hybrid grappler, like Alex and Abel.

I can only assume one of the mystery characters left (or maybe even a newcomer) is a huge, 360 grappler. I'm thinking Rashid/Rachid. That sounds like a name a huge dude might have.

Maybe its just a stage reveal? I mean TGS is like a week after..unless people are thinking that one of the new chars. is from that region.

He said his usual " We are making preparations for a reveal" tweet.

Dont think it would be just for a stage. I mean he never said anything for that WB event and we randomly got a stage there.

They could be doing away with it entirely , we dont have many charge characters in the lineup too. Cant base stuff off that.

from what action i've been able to see Birdie is pretty bad ass, Ryu nerfed normals but nice specials, Bison, Nash , Cammy and Chun Li all pretty solid. Lets see if they put Alex or Urien in the game.
