I'm not sure how I feel about this game yet. MGS is my favorite series and I'm on mission like 4 or 5? Gameplay is fun but I feel like Afghanistan is gonna get old real quick. That, and the story seems kind of boring. The intro was good, though.
Wait until you come across mission 11.

What is there to like about the intro? It's so long and nothing at all happened.
I don't know about you guys saying the voice direction is great, personally I think Kiefer since Ground Zeroes got worse.

Everytime I grab a soldier (that's 85% of the way I deal with them) and he says "spit it out!" and "where are your friends?" I just laugh because of how goofy it sounds. Everyone complains about Hayter but honestly half the things Kiefer say just sound so hilarious.

It needs more Batman Arkham for the interrogations. Kevin Conroy always nails the delivery on that silly stuff, mixing grim determination with silly jests (i.e. his "Thank you [slam]").

They add more LZ's but throwing a flare down should bring the chopper to me.

You'd just run into a lot of problems where it doesn't have enough clearance to get low enough. It needs a large, flat, unobstructed area to go down on. Even D-Horse can get in the way.

What is the best silent way of destroying radars and equipment around a base?

I've been lugging my C4 around and detonating it form a distance and waiting for them to chill out but I figure there has to be a better way.

Keifer's just...like barley there. When Snake does talk, it's like I can barley hear him. Not necessarily just because he's a low talker, but because he just doesn't have much presence.

Say what you will about Hayter, but at least he had presence.

Killing everyone and then blowing it up with some gunshots or a grenade afterwards.

Possibly power stations as you can silently turn them off, but I don't know if every radar thing is connected that way.

Otherwise C4 is all you can do.

You don't have to wait. As long as you're not right next to the c4 when you donate, you can take advantage of The fact you just created a diversion, i.e. everyone will focus on the area where the explosion went off so explore literally anywhere else

There's little reason to not drop in at night every single time.

Am I the only one who plays during the day at all times? It just looks prettier, and if a mission spills over, I'd rather it starts harder and gets easier to extract than the opposite.

Some stuff like the control panels inside buildings can be destroyed with a few rounds of a silenced gun. I don't think you can shoot radar dishes down though.

I'm all about what is prettiest, but I've gone 50/50. I find both timeframes rather beautiful.

I C4 everything but don't detonate unless i've completed the mission and exited the base.... or if i get spotted while in the base, I detonate the C4 i've planted to bring down their coms.

I just deploy ASAP and play in whatever time of day I happen to be in. It feels natural that way.

Very much agreed, it seems like it was a waste of a replacement. Guy whispers half his lines and the other half sound hilarious.

Makes me wonder what Kojima saw in him to get him to do so few lines with barely any delivery.

That's insane, does it bring the power down too?

I think it does. It happened accidentally last night, where I was shooting from an upper floor onto some guard posts below, with hard-to-see power lines in between us. Like real power lines, there are multiple lines, and I don't know if I cut all of them.

Will try again when I get home, to see some results.

Yeah, I've only asked for "night" missions once or twice.

But large, guarded buildings with searchlights in the night, is pretty spectacular looking.

There are multiple ways if you want to go the explosive route. Grenades, C4, grenade launchers, grenade pistol, rocket launchers. Or, once you get it, there's a veeeeeery special weapon that can do it without alerting anyone.

I honestly think he just saw Hollywood.

Could someone who got the first gunsmith side-op tell me if it's in Afghanistan.

Trying to narrow down the reasons why I don't have it yet.

"Unlucky Dog 01" Side-Op

The compound's generator sits right outside the front door. Hit it with an air strike and snuck into the compound in the ensuing chaos. Got spotted while carrying the prisoner into the open, but had enough time to Fulton him out before the guards could start shooting.

I'm still very early in the game so I don't know how things develop, but I find the complaints about lack of story in the early game a bit weird. Isn't the game about Big Boss building his army up again? It seems fitting if the early parts of the game are not huge setpieces with lots of cutscenes.. it's all about Big Boss getting back in the game and slowly becoming a force again.

I thought it was very tense and immersive. Definitely went on too long though.

Jesus christ the idroid is fucking horrid if you're online. Can I enable offline mode somewhere from the options?

e: nvm wasn't hard to find lol

Is there anything you can do about the
Skulls Unit when they appear, or is getting the hell out of there ASAP the only option?

I like to play at night just 'cause it looks cooler that way, plus I figure it makes more sense to do that then sneak around in broad daylight.

Besides its cool to imagine Boss smoking his cigar and doing recon for a few hours waiting for the perfect time to strike. Like dang that's pretty hard.

I love how MGS4's fans only defense is always basically "bu-bu-but it's popular" rather than try to legit defend it
Whoa whoa. I liked the controls, the sheer replayability and the freedom to tackle each area with different weapons/items etc. it had a lot of what I enjoyed in mgs3. The auto camo thing was great too. I've beaten mgs4 so many times just for the sheer joy of exploring and discovering it's secrets.

Question about using Quiet.

When I first got the ability to use her, the hint explained how I could designate different points for her to be at or whatever.. But then when I actually play as her, I can't really interact with her at all, that I can tell, other than telling her to kill someone - Which always seems to alert the base, even if the person is isolated when she caps them. What am I missing?
