He's the coolest and they need to give him a pedigree and a water spitting intro?

Easy
Make him HHH

Its good for buisness

Why just stop there?

Might as well give him Trip's speech patterns while having a New York accent. Hell, make his V-Trigger carry a sledgehammer for good measure.

Street Fighter V will have 16 characters in all at launch. Eight are classic characters that you'd expect in a Street Fighter game, such as Ryu and Chun-Li; another four are characters from previous games not seen in a while, including R. Mika and Nash. The final four are brand new characters, the first of which is the big-hair, slashing-style fighter Necalli. The next three will be announced in the months leading up to Street Fighter V's launch in March 2016. After that, Capcom plans to add more characters to the game as DLC.

Uh oh. 2 more boring SF2 characters coming?
Sagat and guile?

I feel like Guile (for story reasons regarding Nash), Juri, and Karin will be the remaining characters, with Urien or Gill serving as the initially non-playable final boss. Guile will have a dramatically different look and move set.

Since the story probably takes place before III, Capcom might not want to bring Alex back yet since his impetus for becoming a "Street Fighter" hasn't happened yet. I hope I'm wrong.

IV -> V (collapse of Shadaloo, rise of Illuminati) -> III

No Juri confirmed :(

Edit:

so

Classics - Ryu, Chun Li, Cammy, Bison, Vega, Ken (2 remaining)

Previous Games and not seen in a while - Birdie, Nash, Mika (one remaining).

New characters - Necalli + 3 more

Silconera leak said Karin, Alex, and Urien. So if Alex and Urien are considered "classics" and Karin the previous games spot, it makes sense. I just don't know if I would consider Alex and Urien classics though.

Eight Calassic:
Ryu
Chun
Cammy
Ken

Dictator
Claw
Boxer
Sagat

Old characters not seen in a while:
Birdie
Nash
Mika
Karen

I am now convinced that there will be no SF3 fighters that debuted in that series.

The "classic = numbered games" and "not seen in awhile = Alpha characters" would still work perfectly with the leaks.

I still expect Alex, Urien and Karin to be in the initial roster.

That would make sense, but that would depend on if they consider SF3 as a game where its characters haven't been seen in a while. I'll say this though, if Karin is revealed, I'll have little reason to doubt Siliconera.

Or gamespot

We shall see
I was gonna say, that quote wasn't directly from Capcom but rather GameSpot themselves.

Noway in hell they would consider Alex and Urien classics... The dream is dead :(

Please be boss character Urien , thats our only hope.

I wouldn't say that the dream is dead, yet. We don't know if that quote was from Capcom or if that's just GameSpot's interpretation from the EVO Panel chart. And even then, the Charlie comic implies that we're gonna get someone from the Illuminati.

Interesting. Does Gamespot know the final roster though? Or are they just guessing based on the boxes like we are? If the former, I'd guess we still have Urien, Dhalsim, and Zangief left.

Classic fighters = Sf2 characters/world warriors
Again, this depends on if GameSpot knows the final roster or are just guessing based on the boxes from the EVO Panel (as stated by Beelzebufo). If the former, the last character we haven't seen in a while would likely be Urien, seeing as (as stated earlier) the Charlie comic implies that a rep from the Illuminati is gonna be in the game. Plus, I'm not sure if Siliconera would put their credibility at risk like this.

Street Fighter 3 got that upscale re-release not that long ago, and even if it didn't I'd still say that it would be considered "classic".

Otherwise they might as well of just said Street Fighter II. As much as I love that game, it has to stop being the end all, be all of the series. They rely on it too much at the expense of all the other characters.

8 WWs would be so boring. Come on Capcom you can add at least 2 characters from SF3. SFA (besides the classic characters), has 2 characters exclusive to it in this game..

They got the info from Matt, as the linked article says. So, the info is from Capcom themselves:

In addition to Necalli, upcoming fighting game Street Fighter V is getting three more characters never before seen in the acclaimed fighting game series. Street Fighter brand director Matt Dahlgren shared the detail today at the GameStop Expo in Las Vegas in a conversation about the game's wider roster.

The Gamespot articles feels like they've looked at the coloured boxes on the EVO panel and just put their opinion on what each one was representing into an article. Besides, I doubt anyone other than Capcom (and probably Sony) would now who is in the roster. I'm not putting much weight on this.

As always I'm cautiously optimistic.

GS wrote the article as if it was facts, aka that's what the Capcom rep told them. Also, Capcom could have easily switched their roster after the Siliconera article came out. Maybe shufflled around the initial DLC characters with the launch roster.

So you think that one guy's theory about Capcom screwing over leaks is on the money? By that logic, you'd think that they'd switch out everyone from the leak.

I believe in Karin to make it to the roster and also Urien.

Now, dump Alex in favor of Juri =(

I think we will have Karin reveal at TGS.

There's no way they would switch out characters by now. The main roster was decided ages ago and DLC is either being decided now or was also decided ages ago.

I don't think Capcom really cares that much. I'm sure Capcom hasn't even started working on the DLC characters yet beyond preproduction ideas..

Honestly I am still kinda surprised with the Roster size. This is still a $60 title , I mean as a competitive player it doesn't matter since we'll keep getting updates. And mastering even one character takes ages.

But from Casual standpoint , what exactly is supposed to be the appeal of the game? They havent detailed ANYTHING about story mode. Which can be the only thing that might entice casuals. SF4 had the whole nostalgia factor going for it.

This is a major title for Capcom , are they just banking entirely on the FGC?

That's a good point. 20+ is about the number of characters needed to get people to stop caring about the size of the roster.

And they are really just riding the hype of it being the sequel to SFIV.

I'm not one to care about a story mode actually having a story, but it would be nice if there was a challenge mode that taught you things. There could be a series of fights with cpu opponents where the player is limited in some way (beat this opponent using only HK) or special requirements (stay within a certain range of this opponent for 5 seconds without being thrown) and stuff like that to help players learn tactics, not just comboes.

In fact, capcom should do a user generated content thing and let people create challenges or training exercises and upload them for everyone to try. They could give special channels to famous players which might get the casual community more engaged with the competitive scene and the pro sponsors could do some simple advertising (like logos, nothing intrusive). I'm thinking stuff like "block this attack sequence and then punish with this attack sequence." The tech to record a dummy action is already in there. The incentive to create would be fight money I guess. And you'd earn some for completing challenges too.

This is a fantastic idea IMO.

Make it community driven so as the game evolves and new strategies are unearthed, community creators can design new challenges that keep up with FGC developments. You can even have events that coincide with big tournaments and make money + add to the prize pool like Dota 2 does, like for example a Momochi Ken alt costume that comes with a set of combo challenges he designed and priced in a $5 pack, $2 of every purchase gets added to the next Capcom event prize pool.

The game doesn't launch until March, I assume they'll finish up most of the roster by the end of the year (if not all of it). Right now it's mostly SF enthusiasts who really give a fuck about character announcements and balance changes. They only need a couple of months to really market it and show off game features. Plus I mean it's a Street Fighter game. If the name recognition isn't grabbing someone then I really don't know what will. Sony will surely help try to spread the word and interest to their userbase

Regarding roster size, they'll surely lean hard into the "all DLC can be earned!" message, downplaying how obviously time consuming that will be

Lol, I'm pretty sure between now and March they'll talk more about actual features in the game.

Even without any details whatsoever, the interest for the game has been pretty amazing. Just on the beta hype alone, it was the #1 selling game on Amazon for a while. Then the first beta fiasco happened...and, when the beta reopened again last week, SF5 jumped back into the top 100. Collectors edition is currently #21 on Amazon...7 months before release.

I'd say there's already plenty of casual appeal, and they haven't even REALLY started promoting the game yet.

Also, the 16 character debut roster isn't an issue because they've already stated that more characters are coming for free.

Some of my casual friends will feel a game isnt worth the money because of "Lack of content", even when 99% of the games they play Ryu or Ken.

And yea 20 seems like a magic number. I suppose thats why Capcom normally fills up a good number of characters as shotos lmao.

So you think that one guy's theory about Capcom screwing over leaks is on the money? By that logic, you'd think that they'd switch out everyone from the leak.

I don't think they are not doing it on purpose to screw leakers. It's a coincidence.

I imagine Capcom is working on ~20 characters atm, especially if they have DLC characters do close to launch.

There's no way they would switch out characters by now. The main roster was decided ages ago and DLC is either being decided now or was also decided ages ago.

I disagree. They probably knew the initial core 60 to 80% of the roster that will be relevant to the story from the beginning, and the remaining wacky characters that are present for diversification of gameplay were up in the air.
