Any downside to combat gear? I researched this bulky combat armor, and it really provides a lot of extra protection to gunfire, which is NICE for when things go loud, I was just curious if there's any downside. There doesn't seem to be on the surface. Maybe I make more noise?
Do you mean Battle Armour?
The recovery is slow and you need to be still for it, with sneaking suit you can be on the move and still recover. Battle armour will provide you the noise dampming perks of sneaking suit though.

I'm trying to do a side op that requires rescuing 2 prisoners, but i have no idea how the hell I'm supposed to find the second. Interrogating guards only got me info on the first prisoner, but nothing on the second, so I've just wasted a good hour making zero progress. It's the Unlucky Dog 02 side op. What am I missing here?

I think sometimes if you get detected they kill prisoners, if it's not that, bring DD with you, he can detect prisoners nearby and mark them for you, even behind walls.

Bring wall hack dog. Watch as he marks all prisoners and enemies for you.

Keep watching.

WOW. ok i did, and I'm PSYCHED!!!!!

Not to be a downer but you'll soon see the repeated missions thing. You have to finish one to progress within the story, it's annoying but you'll manage. Stay away from the boss related missions, they're a pain. Story so far is real interesting and pretty good.

Where can I find blueprints for the Missile weapon (recommended) required for Mission 5 and 6 or something ?

Most of the time you'll have to develop things which you can if you get more recruits, level up your R&D as well as motherbase as a whole.

21 hours in. 7% completion. Goddamn.

Imagine doing it with just the tranq pistol. That was me.

I started with the tranq pistol too,
spent 10 minutes trading shots, then I opened up my staff page and moved some people around so I would barely meet the requirements for a tranq sniper rifle, dropped it in during the middle of the fight as I was barely hiding from the shots and it was easy after that.

It was one of my favorite moments in the game so far, you couldn't script an encounter better than that.

Well I must be the only one for
Quiet
that called in
airirstrikes instead of a supply drop. She killed me a few times trying to reach her and so I said screw it. Didn't think about supply drops. It did the job in the end.

I got one thing spoiled by accident, but I don't know how or when to trigger it and now I'm kinda lost haha. Can someone help me?

Heard about a medical bay event involving a character from ground zeroes, no idea how to trigger it or when, if it's after a certain mission or whatever. What do I do?

I played the first five missions or so last night, don't know how I feel about this game as a Metal Gear title. What bothers me more than anything is how little Snake speaks, you'd think that an icon such as Big Boss would have more to say instead of just standing there like a mute taking orders. He's got no character.

One of the things I like about the previous games was how much personality they put in to conversations between Snake and other characters. In MGSV you run up to a goat and Miller starts talking about how you can use the Fulton and extract it to Mother Base, end. If it had been done in the style of MGS3 for example, Snake would have some banter with Miller about the taste of the animal or about how having a goat running around Mother Base would be a nightmare.

I'm just getting started with the game so this might improve. I also understand that you have to loose some to get some with regards to gameplay / storytelling, and there seem to be a whole lot of the former in V.

I don't really understand how someone as meticulous as Kojima made such perfectly balanced gameplay for the campaign but overlooked the balance in cinematics and storytelling. I'm convinced it must have been an intentional, stubborn stylistic choice on his part to keep Snake quiet, because I can't imagine him just overlooking this aspect of the game, especially after how beefy MGS4's storytelling was.

I haven't played the game yet, I'm just commenting on peoples impressions.

So what's the best way to take out those 2 tanks in Mission
8? (I think it was 8 anyway... The one where you have to get some intel, and then take out a Colonel and 2 tanks)

It's after you complete the first wandering soldier Side Op. Basically you'll be tasked with extracting a former MSF soldier. Complete that, then head to the Medical Strut and look for a door that has a blue light over it. Go through it, then go to the next door inside.

Does anyone have preferred methods for quickly fultoning vehicles that are required for the combat deployment missions? Like where to find each type of vehicle?

Thanks! Already did that mission, so time to go to the medical strut!

My Grunt has seen some shit.

What is useful for to use the other soldiers on missions?

I found it a big annoyance that you pretty much keep that character until you revert it yourself and everyone around the base treats you as the even tho you blalantly not.

Only 5 missions in. Really digging the game. On the last mission I really messed up and kept getting into alert states so I flooded the area with soldiers. However to eliminate a few I found a pretty cheesy method of trapping them. You find a power generator in an area where you can easily hide, turn off the power, wait, and when a soldier comes, let him turn it back on, then CQC him and fulton him. Turn off the power again and repeat. Very cheesy way to pull clueless soldiers in toward you.

Another thing I found that was really effective was to set C4 explosives on various hardware on the edge of a base. Exploding that will lure guards away for quite some time.

Just like Peace Walker it's incredibly addictive to go around and fulton up soldiers. I just randomly walked into a camp and started interrogating guards to find out more info, and they said they had a specialist in the camp and pointed him out on my map. Very cool.

The one step back from Peace Walker is they made it so that people automatically go into their best teams. I thought it was pretty fun to go back to that screen, have a look at people's stats, and sort them myself. The team management screen is kind of not as useful or interesting now that it's on auto pilot.

The game is pretty tough what with it being more open than others. If it weren't for Reflex Time I'd probably still be on the first mission of the game.

Holy shit, kinda accidentally managed to do the "extract 3 random commanders" mission with perfect stealth and no kills. So far my first, and probably last, S rank.

Staff in the brig get automatically assigned to actual duties when they decide to join, right? I won't have to do anything about them myself?

Done a bunch of those ops, found the
door

So far I feel the game is easier to play at night, but I try to play in the morning/afternoon since I love how the game looks in the morning/afternoon.

S-Ranked Mission 18 - Blood Runs Deep, first go.

Fuck yes, good mission, but I don't have the patience right now to go through hell again.

All this game has done is reaffirm just how completely and utterly shite I am at stealth.

My MGS name would be Clumsy Elephant.

Fultoned a handful of mortars / machine guns, how do I go about laying them out at motherbase? Can I pick positions / see a list?

Or do I just have to take the word they are about on one of the platforms and find 'em?

Just wanted to ask this again on a new page. Thanks

Okay thanks guys, I found the
medical area event
now. Uh. Wow. Huh.
It's nearly 5 in the morning so I don't have a good reaction to this but, "uh. Wow. Huh." is probably still gonna be my reaction tomorrow. Like...uh. Yeah.

Is there a certain point d dog becomes available? I'm on mission 11 and he was here at base a hour ago, still a puppy, now I can't find him anywhere.

I've stopped restarting every time I sound an alarm.

There is such an huge angle of the game that is not being fully played by the players (Improvising, combat, evasion).

I used to play the old Metal Gears like this, and it was amazing. And now after I stopped caring going for Pure stealth (I did that in a few missions, it was frustrating and I still didn't get an S)

It's so much fun now trying to escape when something goes wrong.

Stopped doing that since I find improvising in those situations rewarding and fun.

I managed to set off an alarm, grabbed the nearest guard to use as a human shield and headshot tranq'd everyone that remained at the base. It was awesome. =D

They just appear, no placement choice. If you get more than you need, Miller says he'll sell them on instead.

You'll see them around MB next time you're there.

Dependinding on if you got him really early, you should be close if you've been doing a couple of side ops too. Just check back every couple missions.

There's cutscenes that mark the halfway and final point.

Oh man, mission 11 was awesome!
I snuck up to her, used the stun arm. That took off a huge chunk of stamina/psyche/blue bar. Then I always failed at sneaking up to her, so I used my dinky little tranq pistol. She was low though, only a couple of shots to go. Tried to find her, took too long, so she started looking all over for me, zooming around the place. And THEN I noticed a rainbow over that small pool in the ruins, snuck closer, there she is, recovering lost stamina at the end of the rainbow. Stun arm + 1 tranq dart, done.

Episode 13, and three first-attempt S-ranks so far. I'm surprised at myself -- I usually stay stealthy until I get seen, and then go rambo. I attribute it to the aid of reflex mode silenced headshots. So long as you have good aim, the gain is superior to the penalty.

In other news, my copy of the Piggyback guide has finally arrived. I never anticipated how vital that thing would be.

Trophy - To The Rescue
Extract a female prisoner.

I feel like someone is going to make a fuss over this eventually.

To be fair, the amount of males you rescue is like 10 times.

EDIT: They'll make a fuss about other things concerning Quiet, I'm sure. But it's Kojima he's always been like that and I find it funny. Don't know what the others were expecting really.

I probably need to stop this, but I love not getting seen too much. I don't care about my rank but not being seen is my rush.

I love going through missions without even touching an enemy. No kills, no tranq's, no holdups, no cqc. Love it. I'm not very good at it and it requires multiple retries.

Fear2die, probably should spoiler tag that. And yeah I have, I also think there's multiple ones because the tape I found in a tent in a main mission said different things to that one most have found.

Here's what my spoiler tape said
I was dying of boredom anyway, But guess what? I will be coming back, and I'm bringing my new toys with me. I then shot the stereo and I'm sure I heard it shout "nooo!"
You can find it in the main mission
Voices
I believe.

don,t remember the mission name was it the mission
in the dead camps before you fight the fireman again
if so then yeah the some mission it was mostly horror themed mission if you noticed the atmosphere changed a little when you enter the
tents

How the hell did you sneak up on her?

Everytime i got close she jumped away... even when prone sneaking. I just out sniped her with my tranq pistol... it felt dirty!

No, when things get really bad for them they just get fulton'd.

Had the horse attacked by a tank and it just got back up, so they're pretty resistent anyway.

Rad, thanks. Mine got mauled by a bear and several wolves at the same time so I just left him to fend for himself.
