Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

Hopefully the two that you "expect" are Akuma because he's Akuma and Blanka because Ono. I hope fucking Gief, Sim, Honda, Sagat, etc. sit this one out. I love those characters to death but they need some rest.

Except this is what he actually looks like.
latest

His design and concept art may well translate better to the SFV engine, I guess.

Let's be honest, Oro should be included for 2 reasons:

1.) SA1 was basically a V-Trigger (so was SA3, but I digress)
2.) Spirit bomb

Playing against autopilot characters like boxer (if included) and dictator would actually be fun.

For SF5's entire lifespan? Not happening.

Which would be a shame, as it would again lead to a similar mish mash World Warrior skewed roster that lacks its own identity as IV ended up with. Still, you are probably right.

Lmao cmon man. SF 3 has been ignored for almost a decade, even after Third Strike you had Alpha characters in CvS,MvC..etc. There were re-releases on PS2,PSP..etc. Alpha has been in the forefront as much as SF2 till SF4. And even then Alpha characters were also given first preference in SF4.

If Karin makes it in literally every relevant Alpha character has been brought over to the modern Era SF4/SF5. ( well except Sodom, poor guy I actually liked him more than birdie)

SF3 still has 80% of the cast still only in 1 game ever.

I agree. It's definitely III's turn to shine, that is if the world would be a just place (which is usually isn't unfortunately). Give me Oro, Alex, Sean or even Necro or Twelve over more World Warriors or Alpha veterans. Them combined with what we have and we'll get in terms of new characters would give V a great, fresh initial roster imo.

Yeah, I think we'll be lucky to get about 8 stages.

Yeah, I think that is exactly why we don't see many stages in 3D fighters. There's much more work involved now in terms of design and testing (so as not to degrade performance).

All that being said, the stage select screen in the latest build looks very modular with very narrow vertical strips left and right of center with the preview above, so hopefully that's so they can add more over time.

Hopefully not regarding the first statement (even though it might come true indeed...) and hopefully yes with regards to the last statement about getting more via DLC.

Maybe I've missed it somewhere but did any journalist or FGC member ever ask Matt, Peter or anyone else directly involved about the number of stages that they are aiming for? Or why they still have only shown 4 so far (perhaps because they're prioritizing character development first)? Or even what their design goal is in general for stages in terms of locations (including how these tie in with characters), the time of day, weather conditions or secrets/interactables? I definitely would be interested to hear their thoughts on that some more.

All I recall them saying is that each character will not have their own stage and characters may "share" stages.

Yeah, me too in addition to some vague comments about stage secrets like the bus and restaurant in the Hong Kong stage being something they're striving for I believe. I was hoping for some more info at this point but that would require someone to ask Capcom about stages in the first place unfortunately. Fingers crossed.

I think Karin, Urien, and Alex and 3 other brand new characters are confirmed. The brand new characters are obviously going to be part of the initial roster. The question is: which of other three characters are going to be Day 1 DLC? I vote for either Karin or Alex. Big time fan favorite characters that have been requested for forever and Capcom knows that a large percentage of dudes would grin and bear it and buy them just to get in there as quickly as possible.

Give me my wrestling ring!

All the other character art backgrounds were featured in stages we've already seen so hopefully that means we'll be getting the wrestling ring from R Mika's one. That'd be great.

I really like bright, colourful stages. Forgotten Waterfall looks kinda nice but it's still really, really rough at the moment, especially that left side.

Not at all of them, but yeah. Remember not every character is getting a stage for themselves. But it would be the best stage ever if it did end up happening though.

I like that stage. I just feel there's something missing for it to be great.

According to few members here, there is an animation that you could see his jewels in SF3.

This thing?

SF3 wasn't ignored at all.

SF3 characters were in the CvS series, too. Chun-Li in CvS2 was completely redrawn just to look like her 3S version. Ryu has had a version of Shin Shoryuken in every game since SF3. Pocket Fighter had Ibuki in it. Hugo in SvC. Alex has been in 3 games since SF3.

Alpha series was much easier to port than SF3 series, so that's why you got more ports of it. CPS3 was just too advanced for many consoles. Every system capable of handling it, eventually got it.

BTW, TvC had ZERO Alpha characters in it. (pun intended)
Alex was there, tho. Along with Shin Shoryuken.

You sure?

Yun, Yang, Hugo, Makoto, Dudley, Urien, Ibuki, Alex, Elena were all playable in non-SF3 games. Many of these characters appeared in MULTIPLE non-SF3 games.

Plus, Sean showed up in Ryu's MvC intro.

Even as an internet exaggeration, you're way off.

Why are they wrong? Did a character leak?

There was a GameSpot interview that suggested that the "Green" characters were just going to be from SFII, rather than being from "Mainline Games." It's only helped by the fact that Vega wasn't in the Siliconera leak.

It doesn't mean we're definitely not getting Alex, Juri, or Urien, but them seem less likely. Some are thinking that we're getting them as DLC down the road, though, and that Siliconera merely knew about the characters, not if they were on the base roster.

Well yea the 80% is a bit much., I was primarily referring to returning to SF4/SFxT. There are a few expections like Fighting Jam,Alpha 3 Gameboy. But theres still a decent chunk around 50% left Urien,Sean,Necro,Twelve,Q,Gill,Remy,Oro. And Alex hasn't yet returned to SF.

In comparison Alpha only really has Karin and Sodom. I guess you can maybe stretch and say Eagle,Ingrid and Maki. Though they just seemed to be shoehorned into the Gameboy version from other games.

What're you talking about?

Street Fighter 5's launch roster will comprise of eight classic fighters, four brand new, and four we haven't seen in a while

Eight classic fighters (two left):

Ken
Ryu
Bison
Chun Li
Vega
Cammy

Four new fighters (three left):

Necalli

Four fighters we haven't seen in awhile (one left):

Birdie
Mika
Nash

Urien, Alex, and Karin are part of the "haven't seen in a while" category so only one of them is making it in(if any). But Siliconera didn't specify if these characters were coming as part of the starting roster or DLC so it's very possible we'll see them later.

Well, we can try to fool ourselves into thinking that "classic" means anything other than SF2 or we can hope that the "classic" characters that are announced have received a redesign on par with Ken's.

Hoping for either of those is futile, so I'm preparing for the worst. It's going to be the most boring characters possible, probably Dhalsim and Zangief.

I mean, I'd count Eagle, Maki, and Ingrid as forgotten. They've only had Jam/CvS2 since Alpha. Maybe I'm just biased, though, because Eagle's the only character from Alpha I really wanted back.

I hope Dhalsim is one of the returning characters,I love the tension of keeping someone out with Sim

I think Honda will be the other classic character - mostly because they took Psycho Crusher away from Bison, I suspect not to not have multiple headbut characters.

I guess the other two character we haven't seen for a while will be Karin and Alex. I'd prefer Oro, Necro or Q to Karin - they all have much more visually interesting designs IMHO and I've never been into small fast characters.

If its just SFII characters left for the green boxes, I'm going Boxer & Sagat. Final two bosses from that game to not be in this one. Plus, yunno, Fight Money. If this game's gonna be about the rise of the illuminati, then having the Shadaloo villains all present makes sense.

Karin for the Alpha holdover.

Urien for the secret boss.

Dhalsim boring? Booothisman.gif

Sadly people don't understand the greatness of Oro and how he is one of the best playing SF characters ever made.

Amazing footsies with amazing feeling normal attacks, Amazing forward and back dashes, goukens fireballs are based off his, fun combos, EX SUPERS, a double jump for jumping mix ups, and he can dash under fireballs.
Preach!

Maki is the shit tho.

I certaintly wouldn't be mad at all.

In fact...now I am sad that she will not make it..

thanks bro

;_;
They might as well put Guy in instead, he's more popular. Maki seemed like an out of left field inclusion in CvS2, never to be seen again (besides SFA3 max).

Sagat's not Shadaloo anymore, is he?

I'm betting on Dhalsim and either Blanka or Boxer.

Why the sim hate? Hes one of the more interesting characters and I am curious to see how he will play in SF5. Theres just so much potential with him.

Blanka and Boxer are quite meh though. Literally a bunch of one dimensional moves that moves them forward or upward. Heck so many of their move variations are just useless and need to be reworked. They need the birdie/Nash treatment.

They wont

He's a good guy in 4

So they'll bring him back to being a bad guy. Or an undercover mole or some shit. There's any number of story reasons.

I'm just saying it seems like if those green boxes are all SFII, and they've got 2 bosses from that game already in, and maybe a 3rd considering they named the game currency after him, why not round it off and include the 4th?

Especially if it excludes Blanka or Sim.

Pretty sure Karin's the 4th Alpha character, though.

.

They wont, he'll just Be Piccolo . Like he was in 4. Street fighter has no issue with and often does turn people who were bad guys, or people who are ambivilant into anti heroes.

Exspect anti hero juri soon enough.

You remember when viper was suppoused to be an asshole , and she was just a CIA asshole.

Sagat may no longer work for Shadaloo but that doesn't change the fact that he is and always be intrinsically linked to that organization. If those two slots HAVE to go to SFII characters and Capcom is serious about the story this time, Balrog and Sagat make sense as possibilites.

I was too old for Dragonball when it got big over here, I don't know what this actually means.

Former villain who became a good guy and worked with them. Classic heel turn. Also......you old :P

He's litterally sagat,OG big bad, now wise and thoughtful associate. And even friend in some cases.

By the way you may think I'm joking. Watch Capcom ,

Capcom and either A, make Juri an antihero

Or B , Clone her and That concept that juri was, actually becomes Juri's good sister.

I'm calling that shit

Unless one of the new characters fills the 'Sim void, he seems to be the OG with the highest likelihood of getting in at this point based on playstyle alone. They've done a great job at freshening up the older characters with new hotness
except Cammy, lol
but I doubt anything they do to change Sagat will put him as far into a new lane as the one Dhalsim occupies.
