Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

Sorry, but can you give a range for what you means with "bit pricey"? I tried to look in their website but I wasn't able to get a result and I don't have the faintest idea of what price a screen can reach.

That's so they don't scare you away! :) The Black Diamond in a 100" Fixed screen (not their "Zero Edge") is $2835 MSRP.

The 100" Fixed Screen with Slate material is $1890 MSRP.

Not a casual purchase, but reasonable for a quality screen...and an awesome value considering what a 105" flat panel will cost ($120,000)!

I searched for this on a site that lists all the available tv's in my country and i can't find it. My guess is that the model no is different in Europe here. But i don't know how to find out what model no that is for me. Would you know that? I am from Holland.

I've been looking into some other sets and there's this affordable Philips TV. It is from November 2013 though and the input lag is 60ms. That is simply not done for shooters like Halo 5 and Battlefront, right?

Talking about this one:

http://www.trustedreviews.com/philips-55pfl8008-review#tr-review-summary

I used to love Philips sets...but sadly, the ones sold in the US are chinese made rebadged sets these days. 60ms shouldn't be too noticeable... that's 0.06 seconds...lower is better, but you probably won't notice...when it creeps up over 100ms or even 200ms is when you notice it.

I think Samsung has FAR better sets...especially in the "JS" series...but you gotta take into consideration what your budget will allow...

Okay help me out. Whats the best 65" FHD tv? I dont need 4K so I dont want it but it seems all the new sets have it...

All I will do is play 1080p content on it.

Sony KDL65W850C

It's on my shortlist. I have a Sony from 2010 that's still kicking but I don't want a 4k until next gen consoles. I'm going to buy this to tide me over until then because it's probably the last xreality pro 1080p tv that sony is ever going to have.

No tv is perfect, each has their issues. I cant stand banding, vertical banding is the worse and the LG oled had it as bad as the 2008-9sharp panels.. But it is still the best 1080p tv money can buy. I do feel the 4k oled 55 inch had much better uniformity but the input lag is alot higher if your concerned about gaming on it.

I would buy it from a place that is easy to return it in case you cant deal with the banding or aggressive ABL.

Otherwise I love that display, playing games in pitch black is really something special on it!!
I can't hang with bad vertical banding. Will probably get the Sony 930C or next years model.
For what it's worth, the vertical banding is invisible on my EC9300 for all practical purposes. If it exists, it's extremely mild and gradual towards the edges. Definitely better uniformity than two of my plasmas.

I can't deal with vertical banding. It's like having a beautiful car covered in shitty streaks.

Oh man, this really makes me worried. I've never seen the Sharp panels, but i remember Panasonic VT30 with the vertical banding AND green tinge fault, i hated it. Yes, i must definitely make sure i can return it if it needs to. I will try my best to not go look for it when i am gaming, but i bet when i look into the sky in games like Witcher 3, MGS5, i'm definitely gonna spot it and then it can't be unspotted. Is it always visible or only during certain games/movies/settings?

If not the OLED, if i decide to return it....what would be a good alternative?

Sounds good. Sounds like not every set has it.

Hmmm...it's mostly the JS9000 series that my wallet just doesn't allow. They start at 1997 euros and that's for a 48 inch set. But damn...48 inch? Then there is the Samsung UE55JS8500L which is 2099 euros.

It's going to depend on what the differences are between the JS9000 and JS 8500. Cause in terms of inches, that's only a difference of 7 inches. Still, i remember when i went from 50 to 55 inch and it felt like a significant improvement. So i am definitely gonna notice it.

But that's only if the OLED is going to be returned. I read that the input lag in game mode is amazingly low, but what about the PQ when you enable that? Does it get reduced badly or quite ok?

Sony will be adding HDR support to the 2015 X910C, X900C and X850C 4K televisions via a software update by the end of the year. Performance will be limited but better than nothing. Reading the Sony release, it's unclear if this includes HDMI 2.0A or is just for streaming.

What will this mean for gaming? Console gaming that is? I now see the Samsung JS9000 has it too.

Hey guys. I need advice. As much as possible, because I'm really stressed out.

I just upgraded to the Vizio E Series 48", which came very highly recommended and rated. Basically everywhere ranked it in the top ten TVs for gaming and definitely the best one for the price (which was, of course, comparatively lower than other TVs).

At first, I loved it. I couldn't believe how good it looked compared to the TV I replaced. But while the picture looked great, and the color looked great, I've realized that the motion blur/ghosting is really awful. It actually hurts my eyes. I bought the TV for gaming, but I also watch a lot of Netflix and television and movies, and the blur is so bad that I can't keep the TV.

In fact, the blur is so bad, I don't know how anybody could have ever rated this TV highly or recommended it to anybody. The picture and color are SO GOOD. But it is ruined by the ghosty and blurry sense of motion.

So, I need to know:

1. Is my television defective? I found ONE Amazon review of somebody complaining about the same thing I am, with the same intensity. Does anybody else here have this model, and can they attest to quality contrary to mine? Should I take my TV back to Target and swap it for a replacement?

2. If this is just a flaw with the TV, I can't keep it. I need a better TV. But I did so much research and put in so much effort and all roads led me to THIS one. I need to know which TV to buy now. I need to know which TVs won't have this problem, while also not costing me a fortune. None of the reviews or ratings I found for this TV mentioned this problem, so I'm afraid of it happening again. I got some takeout from a restaurant that had some TVs in the bar, and the pictures were so perfect. I felt terrible.

Please help me, you guys. It's bumming me out. I have very little expendable income and saved for this for years. I need it to be great, or I've wasted my money. I paid $500 for this TV. I'm willing to pay more for a better set. I just need help.

Nothing. Unless games start supporting HDR then there is no benefit. It's for TV/movies that include HDR support via Amazon Video/Netflix/MGo and whatever other services or formats with HDR.

Probably nothing this gen.

How do Blu-Rays look on it? Your earlier post singled out cable/streaming as looking particularly bad but those things can suffer from heavy compression.

BUT, If you aren't happy with it, then take it back and try something else. Welcome to the hell that is buying a modern TV. They've all got problems, you just have to keep trying until you find the one that doesn't have any flaws that annoy you, or you decide to accept some flaws and settle. I couldn't and I'm still stuck with my old TV after trying and returning half a dozen models. What's really soulcrushing is exchanging for another set and getting one that is worse than the one you returned when you expected it to be better.

TV's always look better when you're out at the store or at somebody else's house. You aren't being as critical and the environment and test material isn't as conducive to finding flaws. You have to take it home and live with it a bit before the flaws stand out.

Since my original post (which was Day One), I have made a lot of progress with the cable/streaming quality. Picture quality is better now across all fronts.

It's just the damn ghosting. It's such a strain to actually WATCH the TV. The color and the depth and the quality of the image: so good. Even streaming. I'm seeing colors I never saw on my old TV.

But it HURTS to watch it. The image feels blurry and sketchy and I can't stand it. I don't know what to upgrade to.

Call Vizio, they are pretty good about replacing them.

everything im reading about it sounds like its a great gaming tv... anyone have any experience with it personally?

I dunno about the M, But I have the P-series 4k from last year and it's great for gaming.

My 1080p TV just died before my 3-week European vacation. When I get back I'm totally picking up a 65" Samsung JU7100, and a GTX 980 ti for by gaming PC that's hooked up to it. I'm so stoked!

I wish there was a 4K successor to the Framemeister for retro gaming goodness but I can be patient about that.

From my understanding, the X850C is not even able to really handle any form of HDR due to it not having local dimming. Not really sure what this whole "limited" support would be.

I currently have a 65" of this model that I got for a fantastic price. HDR support or not, it's a great looking tv.

What will this mean for gaming? Console gaming that is? I now see the Samsung JS9000 has it too.

I have tried so many sets, even after having the lg oled. The last two tvs I have had was the 48ju7500 samsung and now the 55js9000 sasmung.

I need as low as possible lag and in game mode both of these tvs are 22ms with the leo bodnar, the js9000 has faster pixel response then the ju7500 and the colors and black just look better. The js9000 imho is the best led you can get right now gaming on an hdtv. The upscaling is amazing, I am using ps3, xbox 360, ps4 and xb1 on it and I am amazed with the upscaling!!

Also I must say that both the 48ju7500 and the 55js9000 have the best uniformity I have come across ! Gaming has no banding and no dse!! Even the mighty elite pro101 had dse visable in games and higher lag!

If money is an issue, go for the ju7500( or the ju7100 flat version) the 48 is actually decent in size so I would recommend that if your trying to save some dough, because the js9000 48 inch is 700 dollars more.

I love gaming on them, I really do! So bright, very uniform screen, no flashlighting on blacks. Even smart led has been enabled with the newest firmware update and only adds 1ms to the total lag so you get better blacks if you feel its needed!

But do you think it's a defect in this TV, or an overall problem that this entire line of TVs has? Would my replacement probably be the same?

Great advice man. I used to think 50 inch was alright, until i took a 60 inch home. After a few years i went for a 50 inch screen again and boy did i have to get used to that. So i rather not go for the 48 inch. It's just too small for me, and i like biiiiiig. The 48 inch JU7500 is 1448 euros right now and the 55 inch is 1849 euros. That IS a real big difference. The plan is to finally find a TV that is going to great for many years to come, cause i am quite done with looking for one, haha.

So i gotta decide for myself if i want the best PQ and everything else, cause then the JS9000 is my only option. But in that case it's probably going to be the 48 inch after all, since the 55 inch JS9000 is 2424 euros. But by the time i take the 48 inch home, i've already 'tasted' 55 inch again with the OLED, gonna have to get used to it again. We'll see what happens. Another option is...wait a little longer and save some more and get that 55 inch JS9000 and be fuggin done with it.

By how things are looking now, i can afford the OLED next month, if there's no real issues or only very small, i'll keep it. But it's good to know the alternatives now. Thanks again. :)

I just went to this store and i saw a Philips 65PUS9109. 65 inch and it's 1949. For a 65 inch that's damn good. The problem is, i can only find one review of it and it doesn't talk at all about input lag.

Just got an email reply from Vizio customer service.

To recap, I bought a 48" Vizio E Series from Target after all my research suggested it was the best TV for the price. Bar none. It was rated extremely high on Rtings and is on virtually every list for the best TVs for 2015.

The picture and image quality is good, but the motion ghosting was significant. It hurts my eyes to watch for even twenty or thirty minutes. And the picture just looks wrong and weird. It's basically unwatchable because even modest motion is blurry and strange. Almost as if the image isn't solid. I don't know if I should describe it as ghosting or latency or what. But I've been calling it ghosting, or motion blur.

Anyway, even though I didn't mention gaming in my email to Vizio, they suggested turning on Game Low Latency. This seems to have improved it, but it's kind of thing I have to watch for a while to really know if it's still a problem.

But what I don't understand is that this TV is rated very highly for motion blur, and it's only outclassed by much more expensive TVs on Rtings. Is this problem typical? As I have said before, I've only found one Amazon review claiming to have the same problem as me.

But I still don't know if my TV is defective or if this is normal for the brand.

But I need to do something. I know a lot of people here buy very expensive TVs. But this is what I can afford. Either this, or the Samsung J6300.

I actually just came here to ask about this Vizio TV. Any thoughts on it?

http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product...spx?path=d2d37824e74b2d79dcfff4aa21bb57a1en02

My TV is making a loud whirring noise whenever there's a black loading screen or no image, and it gets annoying. I have a $1200 budget, but don't know if I want to spend it all, and would like 4K.

That said, isn't Vizio a cheaper brand? My current TV is a Sharp Aquos, and it's about 9 years old. I love that brand, but don't want to spend an arm and a leg.

Didn't someone here get the Sony 75X940C?

I'm debating between that and the Samsung 65JS9500.

Just wanted an opinion from someone who has had it in the home

I have this TV and really really like it. I really think Vizio has improved as a brand over the last several years, and this TV is a testament to that. Just go take a look at one in the store, it makes a great impression whether displaying 1080p or 4k content.

I'm tempted to buy a new TV soon, because of that whirring noise, but I may just wait until the current TV stops working completely.

This one is near the top of my list, though.

The main difference between the JS8500 and the JS9000 is simply the curved screen. Both are edge lit LED displays, both have "nanocrystal color" and HDR (these last two features, in my opinion are the most significant advancements in LED/LCD screen tech in YEARS!). The JS9500 is the one that has the significant upgrade with full array LED backlighting...but that one is out of most people's budgets too.

I myself am saving up for the 8500 series 65"...my LED light engine DLP is on it's last legs and will need to be replaced soon...although I am hoping it holds out another year...I already have 30,000 hours on the lamp, so I am expecting to replace it sooner rather than later!

€2099 doesn't sound like a bad price...they sell for $1999 currently here in the States. If you can afford it, go with that...I have seen it, in person, and can attest that it will compare very favorably with any of the other higher end sets (including OLED) from other brands!

Well, I have the JS9500 in my showroom not my home, but I would HIGHLY recommend this set over the Sony. It has better color, higher brightness, support for HDR, and exclusive (for now) streaming of 4k content from Amazon (as well as non-exclusive Netflix 4k streaming).

You should also be able to get the Western Digital hard drive for free with it (depending on which country you are in, may only be a US promo), that has 2 UHD movies on it that are immediately viewable, and several others which are pre-loaded but which require purchase...and it gives you the ability to download additional movies to it as well.

Yea, that's how I figured it would be. Half assed. Which is why I skipped the TVs this year.

Thats one reason I love Samsung's sets so much. They have all of the electronics in a separate "One Connect" box...if the standard goes to HDMI 2.1b or displayport next year, you don't have to buy a new set...you just replace the box!

Sorry, forgot to address your concerns with picture quality in game mode. "Game Mode" disables all of the "junk" which I normally turn off anyway. Edge "enhancement", "MPEG noise reduction", "Auto Motion Plus" (that last one is the WORST offender, picture quality wise!)...so, assuming you have your TV set up (calibrated) properly, you should see little to no difference in picture quality with game mode enabled.

So best TV for 2300$ is the new LG 1080p OLED right. 55" probably enough for us if our current 46" dies.

I have seen that one in person, and I HIGHLY disagree. For LESS money, you can get the UHD (4k) Samsung UN55JS8500, which has better color, HDR support, and better resolution.

Dont buy into the OLED hype. It's NOT as good as you think...YES it does have really good black levels, but compared to other comparably priced sets, it falls short in every other metric.

But do you think it's a defect in this TV, or an overall problem that this entire line of TVs has? Would my replacement probably be the same?

Does anybody know if the M series or P series has the motion blur/ghosting issue I'm having with the E?

I think it's an endemic problem with the set you purchased, not necessarily a defect. Look for a "game mode" if it has one...or, if not, look under all of your picture settings and disable any "motion enhancement", edge enhancement, noise reduction...and anything else...if it is STILL blurry, you are going to have to replace it.

Look for a set that has a NATIVE REFRESH RATE (not "motion rate", "aquomotion" or any other marketing driven BS number!) of 120hz or 240hz. If you don't see "Hz" after the number, DONT TRUST IT! Having a higher refresh rate will solve the problem you are experiencing.

I've had a 940c for about a month. It's pretty great in my experience. Amazing for viewing parties. I actually got the wireless sub that goes with it and the sound is quite good. It also looks really sleek IRL, unlike most pictures where you can't tell if it's kludgy with the speakers. Most of my 4k content has been via Netflix and YT and it's excellent, but I have not gotten into calibration or anything at all so this is speaking very much from a layman who was looking for a nice tv's perspective.

Hey man,

Thanks for the reply about the two Samsung sets. That is damn helpful and could save me quite a bit of money. Unless i really must have a curved screen, i honestly don't know cause i've never owned a curved TV before. But if i understand you correctly, there really aren't any truly significant differences between the 8500 and 9000? Except for flat versus curved screen? If thse are truly the only differences.,.it surely to me sounds like it's not worth spending more than 400 euros more just to get the 9000.

Interesting what you say about the LG OLED, cause i am mostly hearing nothing but immense praise about almost anything about the TV, except for the issues of course. But at the end of the day....opinions and all. It's very possible that i'll end up not agreeing with all the LG praise. Only one way to find out. :D

honestly if the difference is the curve save your money and get the 8500.

I picked up the 9000 because it came with a free 32 inch hd tv and some 4k movies via Best Buy.

This is just a bit exhausting mentally. I am in the process of looking for a new TV and no matter where I look, there is something 'always' wrong with one. And they aren't minor issues, but you 'have' to live with some defect or fault of some kind, and it's pretty frustrating. You shouldn't have to pay mutliple thousands of dollars and go "I want that TV with that defect, please."

*sigh*

Is sound TV? I have a Vizio D series TV with a Vizio sound bar and I'm getting notable audio delay, which can be quite annoying for games. The game mode doesn't seem to solve that and it's notable watching TV as well.

The Sony is a better TV.
Ive seen both and played around with em and agree the Sony is better. It's more of a question at this point of that it's still ~$3000 more, though it is 75" I think Im trying to talk myself out of it and settle but if I go with the Samsung I can't help but feel I will regret it.

How are blacks on letterbox movies at home? Pitch black or does it have light leakage in a dark room?

I would like to see some receipts to back up your claim

Do you guys consider Vizio to be a low-range brand in the grand scheme of things? Or is it quietly solid?

I'd just like to get more opinions, because I'm the type of person who worries about not buying products made by the big guys.

Then it sounds like you already know what you need to do: spend more on Sony or Samsung and sleep well at night. The few hundred bucks you'd save wouldn't be worth any worry, and heaven help you if the Vizio set had any problems. You would immediately blame the brand whereas with the big guys you'd just assume it was a lemon and exchange it.

Agreed!

It's very frustrating, and freaking hell....we're spending more than 2000 dollars on a TV and there's still a big chance of some kind of issues, some smaller than the other, but still we can't just blindly buy one and be done with it. We gotta make sure the issues aren't too bad first. it's unfortunete for sure, but when i get a new TV, it is exactly what i'll do first.
