Umm I've played mission
11 (Quiet) after a surprise jump from Mission 8
, great mission overall but I have to note the graphics in the cutscene after the mission... my god it looks horrible...
have you seen the ocean? the plane? the quiet's sniper?
it was really ugly.

So Side Op 144 where the hell is
body
?
Searched for over an hour in the zone.

A major important story spoiler far late in the game. Need some help.

Does anybody know where I can find the body of the man on fire? Been looking everywhere with DD yet nothing. I know I'm not looking hard enough lol.

EDIT: Never mind, found it.

Really need some help with one of the important side ops late in the game, so if you haven't got far in the story don't read this. If anyone who has completed and can help, I'd appreciate it.
Number 144
Secure the Remains of the Man on Fire

Where the hell is it? I've cleared the outpost and interrogated all the guards and I'm no closer.

So, finished the "main game" and now I'm in the peace-walker post plot more plot stuff. I'm stuck on side-op 144 though.

"Secure the Remains of the man on fire." Like, I figured he was gonna be inside that outpost because that was the only large area within the side-op radius, but I got there, cleaned the whole place and have no idea where to look. I know I'm probably missing something obvious but I'm reeeally lost here.

Important Side Ops question, I think 144.
Where is Man of Fire's body?

He's in the middle of the damn base.

Not a fan of all the child soldier missions.
Also it´s kinda stupid to always have to pay for the full deploy cost even when i didn´t use the gear in the last mission. Did Snake just throw it away or what happend?

So I'm on Mission 16, and I don't really understand how I'm supposed to fight
the Skulls
. To me, this just feels like more bullet sponge bosses like PW. What am I missing?

EDIT: Nvm,
just got into one of the nearby tanks and went back and forth while shooting them.
Kinda lame.

The funny thing about the limited dialogue is I'm thrilled when Big Boss finally talks in a cutscene. Was so relieved how the bringing Quiet to Mother base scene went in the end.

having a drinking game about the times he talks and i'm sober as hell. bringing kiefer into this brought nothing noteworthy to the series. the more i play the more i think how bizarre this whole cutting hayter to have a mute snake thing is, i would have called budget cuts but it doesn't make sense since they brought in an high profile hollywood actor, legit wondering what his check looked like cause he must've walked out thinking he robbed konami with how little work they had him doing/had to do.

Honestly the storytelling in this game is baffling. Did Konami not let Kojima make cutscenes or something.

Whoever thought having tapes as the primary means of storytelling (something many gamers may not bother to listen to) was good should be fired...oh wait maybe he did get fired :p

At this point the FFXIII datalog BS doesn't seem bad at all to me.

I am absolutely loving the gameplay but you know what, this is frikkin metal gear. It's not enough and now 20 hours in for the first time ever in a metal gear game I feel bored. And inducing boredom on the level of an assassins creed game is a huuuuge sin in my eyes lol. I don't care about what happens to Big Boss or anyone.

I
mean the scene where Big Boss and Ocelot meet after so long had so much potential
with kojima's usual flair of storytelling and cutscene direction...but there was nothing. Crucial storytelling elements like tension, pacing, interesting scenarios seem to be non existent here. They have nailed the atmosphere though...

yep, don't remind me :(

If you follow that mission normally, you have to deal with the following:

A driver, 4 skulls, a tank, and a personal carrier as you are catching them on the road.

I-I did it wrong?

>_>

<_<

Whoops.
I completely ignored the two LAVs next to it, heh.

Goddammit spoiled ANOTHER fucking mission by glancing up from the floor just in time to see a name. FUCK these opening credits, seriously. I can respect design decisions but this is literally the stupidest thing I've seen in a game for years.

Agree completely.

Can someone tell me what the point of
traversing Mother Base is? Like, in Peace Walker it was just a menu system. Here, it's a place you go to, but there's nothing to do on it. WHY IS IT HERE!? It's so frustrating. Not to mention the driving between buildings. What the hell?

The more I look at this game, and the more I play of it, I more I feel why Konami was so pissed about its' budget ballooning. There's just a lot a lot of 'whaa?' things in it. There's so much of it, but so little in it.

I'm only through 5 Missions right now, so maybe it'll pick up in a mission or two, but I'm feeling a bit jaded with it right now.

Yeah seriously what kind of pretentious BS is it to have credits before each mission which spoil stuff!

I guess it's trying to act like each episode of a tv show maybe.

But no Tv show I have ever seen is soooo boring in terms of plot or narrative so it was a failed attempt.

good god episode 12. I almost did it with no alerts and no continues too - my helicopter was on fire and looked like it was one hit from death, I couldn't see what was shooting it. In retrospect I probably would have been fine if I got in, but because I didn't the helicopter blew up, attracted a bunch of dudes over and got me my first alert for the mission. Didn't die but it sucked that I missed out on a guaranteed S because of a bit of hesitation.

But yeah that was the best mission yet, and insanely long. Earlier today I saw someone suggest airdropping in different types of camo based on the terrain and time of day - it was amazingly effective.

On the opposite end of the length spectrum I cleared a mission by running forward, throwing two smoke bombs, and driving off in a jeep with a prisoner I had to rescue. I couldn't believe it worked and couldn't stop laughing.

I've got her fully mastered and could probably give some help. Anything in specific that stands out?

What does the Quiet command do? Also why does she only mark few random targets? Why are her commands sometimes greyed out? And lastly, is there any way to improve the timing between giving Fire command and she actually taking a shot?

Gotten through about 15 or so hours of the game, and am on mission 11 in the story missions. So far I'm having a blast! The gameplay is the best in the series, and Kiefer Sunderland as Big Boss has grown on me, even though I do still miss Hayter.

The only complaint I really have so far is the lack of story. I feel like I've just been doing filler missions so far; nothing really big has happened in the story yet. I'm hoping the story starts to pick up soon, I feel like it should since I'm about to
meet Quiet and then go save Huey
.

Overall, it's a damn good game so far :)

Ok, I'm going to hope this is the thread that is more or less spoiler safe.

I was really hyped about the game until I found that it would be open world, which totally kills it for me (and then FOB and online stuff, invasions... bleh). I really don't like the stealth mechanics and I just want the story, that I am being spoilered already everywhere from FB to Twitter. Right now I have a bad gaming burnout and I am too busy studying to devote time to a game (plus busted the money I had saved for it into a gym subscription), so I don't see myself playing before Xmas vacation, and by that point it's pretty sure they will have ruined the whole story for me unless I do a social media blackout.

Think it is ok to start watching longplays / walthroughs of the "no comments" variety? It's going to be the first time I do this, so I'm having it hard to know which of the streams I should be following, in terms of playing it properly, etc...

Desperately need help with Side Ops 143

Where on earth is the AI core. I've cleared out the entire base and I can't find the thing, even after interrogating inf soldiers.]/spoilers]

So I was looking up a cassette tape guide to find out where
Snake Eater
is and I see that two different guides say you get
The Man Who Sold The World
after Mission
46
. Am I the only one who got it after
the Prologue
or is it a different version?
Skullface
on karaoke?

Boss battles have all been huge disappointments so far. I saw them as the highlights of the series but in this game they are just annoying sponges rather than puzzles.

Well the thing is, in the least spoilery terms. It'll take a long ass time to watch a longplay of this game. I finished the "main story" in about 35 hours and that's skipping some things. Theres a LOT of gameplay between the small bites of story you get. If you can watch a abridged version of the story it'll take about 30 minutes sadly.

I had a blueprint mission which was in the first building I checked. Pretty much ran in, picked it up and ran out. The longest part of that mission was waiting for the heli to show up.

I believe the Quiet command is to get her to stop humming for a little but I'm not actually positive on that, the command itself goes away pretty early on when your bond grows and gets replaced by cover me. Cover me makes it so that she will just fire at everything without commands until you say stop.

When she scouts a base she runs around the outskirts and marks whatever is visible to her, unlike ddog who is more of a straight up wallhack. She can't do that which means she can miss targets that walk around, though she can still mark while perched at a sniper spot.

Commands are greyed out when she's under fire and can't aim at someone. Sometimes means she's relocating which she does automatically when people close in on her.

There's always a bit of a delay after you say fire. If she has her sights on someone who is about to spot you(like reflex mode kicks in) and you fire at them she'll instantly put them down assuming you see her laser sight.

Early on she was basically best used as a distraction. Make noise, get everyone to focus on a certain direction while you sneak in behind everyone. When you can start getting suppressors or especially the suppressed tranq sniper she becomes insane.

lol episode 10 was my first "fuck it" moment of the game; I had just finished the side op where I have to get the prisoner out of that big facility (the one with Take On Me in it) because I wanted to test out playing with D-Dog (and also get Take On Me) and when I saw that the main prisoner to be saved was going to be transported there I was like "Nope, not doing that again" and decided to get him before his transport made it to that place. Only took me two failed attempts and I ended up getting an A rank

I've spent the last 25 hours trying to figure out why I couldn't dismiss this annoying troublemaker that was causing fights. I figured it was part of the 'annoyance', that you couldn't solve the problem by simply firing them. Turns out that in my early game fumbling with the UI I had accidentally set him to 'direct contract' which made him impossible to dismiss.

The mother base UI in general is just...blargh

I did the same thing actually. Troublemaker with terrible stats had a lock on his name and I had no idea how the hell that happened, but hitting the trigger unlocked...though the actual wording along it really doesn't make it clear.

ROTFL, was coming here to complain about the same thing.
I don't mind them, if anything knowing that the skulls are going to show up keeps me on my toes and decides my loadout. It would be cool to toggle it. But if knowing the skulls and skull face are going to show up somewhere in the next 20 minutes is ruining a surprise, your birthdays must have sucked.

It's bad choice even if it turns out that it had to be done due to issues with konami, but it's no where near as horrible ad people are pretending it is.

There were quite a few of those going on before release. You missed those. I gave quite a few of them actually.

Dunno of any other place currently giving out the game.

Argh. Oh well, guess I will have to wait till next month then. :(

EDIT: I googled and found a few giveaways/competitions still running, entered those. Fingers crossed that I'll win one!

35 hours? Well, that's all I need to know, it was bad enough having to endure 10-15 hours in previous title. I will stick with the videos until I get tired, I guess. I can't fit that kind of game on my schedule anymore.

I really don't like the lack of story presentation...
It's there, you just don't like how it's presented and that is fair.

This won't be a watch it on youtube and pretend to have played it kind of game like the previous one's; people are going to have go in and pull the story out of the game with both hands.

Bummed about:

-lack of cutscenes and integral charismatic villains
-regenerating health(no more rations??), no gauges(grip, stamina, etc...)
-no rousing mgsv theme?
-Tonally it's way too reserved. Biggest mgs game yet and it's so impersonable.

Enjoying it so far otherwise, though the mission and location variety is lacking in this giant world. Adore that tactical stealth makes a return to the forefront, but this is missing the core identity of what metal gear has always been(big dramatic score, web of character interactions, constant evolving game structure and objectives). Too many gameplay conceits to step in line with modern AAA safe contrivances. I mark, I sneak, I grab collectibles. I repeat constantly, as do the outposts I visit. It's surprisingly uniform. I feel like I want to love the game more than I actually am.

-regenerating health(no more rations??), no gauges(grip, stamina, etc...)

It's a sign of the times that I intuitively played as if it had regenerating health, and didn't consciously think about it for a long while into the game.

That makes sense, thanks a lot. I guess she's not as straightforward as DD or the horse.

I didn't even notice that we had regenerating health, or.what I mean is, it didn't occur to me that we dropped rations and health bars. pretty funny considering I was playing peace walker a week ago needing the rations. lol
