My GMP accidentally fell into the red last night. Which in turn triggered the fight club scene.
And as I went through my resource menu, I realized I still had a ton of processed gems I hadn't sold off yet. When I did, I discovered that my GMP actually maxed out at 5 million.
I'm surprised they actually put a limit on it.

Yeah that threw me off too :-/

I was doing good on that one until the end. Not sure if it's possible to get out of that without being spotted.

I definitely have some complaints about the game design and Mother Base, but the worst part of the game for me is when I get spotted..... combat is absurdly easy. You can wipe out entire bases with zero effort. I usually just restart the mission when I'm spotted as it really breaks the game.

Yeah you're pretty much a one man army, but that's legendary big boss so it's expected I guess, lol.

Now that I've not only finished the story but had some time afterwards to play even more, yeah, I'm dissapointed.

Didn't care for the story at all, it felt too hacked up and incomplete and there were far too many filler missions.

The gameplay was super rock solid, best in the series and one of the best of the genre, but the story, a big thing for me in Metal Gear, was such a slap in the face that it really hurt to finish and be so disappointed with it.

Hopefully MGO 3 is everything I hoped for and more and actually remains supported, my hype for it is in the stratosphere so here's hoping it delivers.

If I had to rank the game on some sort of alphabetical rating scale...

Story: D

Gameplay: A+

Visuals: PS4/Xbox One = B+
PS3/Xbox 360 = C-
PC = A

Performance: PS4/Xbox One = A+
PS3/Xbox 360 = D-
PC = S (:D)

Buy or not: If you want an amazing, crazy Metal Gear story, no. If you haven't played a Metal Gear game, depends on what you want.

So if you want a game with interesting enemy encounters, minor base management, and the ability to switch play styles on the fly between amazing stealth mechanics and balls to the wall action, this is your thing.

But for massive Metal Gear fans who wanted a good final chapter in the beloved series with an insane story that hooks deep... no, not really worth your time.

Thanks. As someone that didn't like 2 or 4. I pretty much wrote this story off at the prologue after it got so fantastical again so my expectations were already low. Then early on when you find someone and I got the nauseating patented Kojima over wrought exposition scene it confirmed. So all I have cared about is gameplay and so far, the gameplay is amazing. Best In the series and well worth the price of admission IMO.

Question about DD. every time im done with a mission what do I do with him? Hes still a pup so I haven't gotten to use him yet but do i do the same thing I do with d horse and just get in da choppah?! Or do i need to fulton him out or will he auto jump in the chopper? Don't want to leave him behind :)

Soo, why cant I equip anything in this right slot?

Doesn't Ocelot say something about it the first time you go at mother base after the animal zoo is made? Plus I'm pretty sure there's a text box after that appears the first time you get on mother base's landing zones menues to tell you exactly how to go to it. Also, It's pretty much in your face at all times when going to mother base. Are the zzz because you're sleepy?
no it doesn't tell you "press XXX when you're selecting a landing zone to reach the platforms". also it's pretty much not on my face.
zzz because I'm sleepy, yes. stupid game design decisions make me sleepy.

If you do, you lose her as a buddy. You either have to keep her under 100% or equip the Butterfly Emblem to avoid her leaving mission. You really want to do that as your very last thing for gameplay reasons. So yeah equip that Emblem and just wait to do that story mission. Or YouTube it. I regret doing it.

Oh fuck this is SUPER DUPER important information that I'm glad I spoiled for myself. I'd be so pissed if I didn't know this before the end of the game. I highly advise everyone to read this up because otherwise you will lose a buddy permanently.

What!? You have to sell the gems? I didn't know that!

I really really really hate saying this, but I've been playing this game since it came out in my spare time...I've been trying to fit it in my free time, so I haven't been able to play it constantly, but I've still put a fair amount in so far. Still being only at main mission 20, and feeling like the story is just too damn ambiguous so far...

I've loved the MGS series for a long ass time, and this game, while it has all the great production I expect from Kojima...it's not been exactly a fun time for me. The mission structure feels so much like a grind to me, and the payoff is hardly there so far like I've expected from past MGS games. I understand it's going for a different tone...but man, I loved MGS because of what it was before. I'm not sure I like this different direction. Maybe there's some pay off eventually, but as someone who's trying to get through the story so I can focus on school, this is taking so damn long, and I'm not sure I'm having fun doing the missions.

Just not a fan of the structure. I liked the linear fashion of previous MGS games, but I understand why they'd want to change it up after so long too. There are just changes that I'm not a fan of though...regenerating health has made getting in firefights not fun like it could be in previous MGS games, and instead because frustrating and too hard. Some of the fights with the
Skulls teams
have been basically me banging my head against them until I can finally kill them. I don't feel like I have time to learn the battle, because I die so damn quick. The fight against
Quiet
was kinda cool at least.

I just wanted to get this off my chest...I'm not happy I even have to feel this way, but I can't deny how this game has been making me feel. Every previous MGS game, I have had sooo much fun, and loved playing them when they launched. This one...feels like a chore.

I'm only in the beginning of the game but ehhh.. the writing is TERRIBLE, and the badly directed actors adds to this..in an awful way, hope it gets better.
Gameplay is pretty fun though!.. solid, but I can see it becoming a bit repetitive in the long run..
Open world doesn't add much imo but the vistas are gorgeous.

...you have to sell gems and not only get them ?

Welp I think I'll make a sale or two then.

37 hours in, 17th episode, and did ~35 side ops.

The game is just so fun, it's like a whole lot of VR missions !

I finally got weapon customization, I love going to missions with my pink and clear blue weapons. Also, tranq sniper + suppressor is ridiculously OP.

There's no definitive end to the game? But yes it's needed for 100% and story closure which is why I recommend leaving it as late as possible. Equip Butterfly Emblem and do every other thing you want to.

It pissed me off.

How do you equip butterfly emblem?

Yup, you need supporters who can go protect it for you when you're away. I wish you could add friends for this instead of randoms.
That's super annoying. I assumed I could just opt out of online stuff by disconnecting, but once you build an FOB that's it... you're in.

I'm also curious what is going on with FoBs. There is a notice when the game first starts that says if you are disconnected that you won't have to worry about being invaded but reports of people being invaded 10+ times and losing people who aren't on the
security team

So I've been debating about picking this up and I've seen all the great reviews and all but after watching gameplay I still don't understand why the game is as amazing as everyone says it is. I mean, it looks good and has caught my interest but what really makes it 10 out of 10 good? Will playing it make me understand? (I've also never played a Metal Gear game before)

Just finished mission 31
and now have part 2 available. Do all of the rest of the missions need to be played/completed in order to see the rest of the story scenes or is it only some of them? If so, how are the essential ones unlocked? Seeing [Subsistence] and [Extreme] beside new missions fills me with dread tbh and I want to see the rest of this story

Holy crap, possible gameplay spoilers, Mission 19 for what it is worth:
can enemy helicopters get struck by lightning and crash? Heard a loud crack of lightning and a few seconds later an enemy chopper came spiraling out of the sky.

D-dog and Quiet are so OP in different ways lol. D-Dog lets you plan well but Quiet tranq sniper is incredible. Entire towns just fall asleep.

Also, whose idea was it to include (chapter 26? 27? onwards)
a goddamn quarantine these dudes thing, finally justifying being able to ID Mother Base staff on sight, and then forget to have an 'alphabetical sort' function for staff management
You might consider this spoilers even though we're at the same part of the game so be aware.
you can figure it out all without ever touching down on Motherbase. No direct contact needed. It can all be figured out from the iDroid. I only know I got it because ocelot said something when I acted on my hunch.

Christ, the people that have finished this game since the 1st must have done almost nothing else. Can't even fathom doing it this quickly.

I have to say extreme versions of some missions is a real joy to play. No weapons, no supply drops, on field procurement of gear etc. makes it so much intense.

I think the "disrupt supplies to prevent enemies from adapting to your play" bit is completely broken and unfun. Because the way it should work is if say you make 50 headshots, then enemies start wearing helmets but if you disrupt the supplies then the counter resets and that disrupt mission doesn't shows up until you get to 50 again. Instead the way it works now is you hit 50 headshots and enemies start wearing helmets, so you disrupt supplies which takes 40 minutes to complete. Once done you have another 40 minutes to an hour where you don't see enemies with helmets but after that everyone will start wearing it again....even if you never actually hit 50 headshots.

The reason why it makes things unfun is because it isn't just helmets but riot suits, shields on back, body armour....4 different things. 4 different things that your tranq weapons are completely ineffective against.

You have to keep in mind that you can't really send 4 dispatch at a time unless you have an FOB. And I want to send dispatch to other places like resources or even disrupting sniper rifles and cameras etc. Basically there are a lot of stuff that needs to be taken care of apart from these 4 but I simply cannot do it because the game won't let me do it unless I pay. And considering how the system works and how frequent the disruption gets nullified, most of the time I just find myself sending dispatch for these 4 things rather than resources or any other disruption.

Most of us who have finished it or are near finishing it have played it since a week before the game released on 1st.
I've had the game since 27th august.

Ooh. Thanks for the info, I'll have a play around tomorrow.

Crap this may be one of the best games ever made. In the middle of
mission 12
. If it gets better from here on out I'm gonna be a smitten kitten.

I've played around 40 hours since the 1st and I'm just away to finish the game. I played a lot but I wouldn't say it's all I've done. Done around 40% of the side ops too.

You can tranq their faces still, though. I actually find that more enjoyable. Taking some skill to get them in one shot.

I know a guy who has already finished and he got it on the first. I'm sure he's not alone.

Alls I'm sayin is you guys are nuts is alls I'm sayin.

Same here, but the incredible gameplay more than makes for it. Go in expecting an awesome stealth game, but a terrible Metal Gear Solid, cause that's how I've been feeling these past 40 hours.

Lol people think this has worst story in the series. Did you think MGS4 was actually... Good?

You cannot tranq the ones with riot suits.

I want to buy and play this because of all the rave reviews on the gameplay. But I've never played a MGS game. Bad idea?

No bad idea at all. Bought it too without having played any main entry MGS. I have only played MGS5 Ground Zeros which I really didn't like.
I bought MGS 5 PP on launch day it was a great decision. I love the gameplay and the story isn't that confusing. The little details in this game are outstanding.

I'm at 14% completion and played for like 14hours lol it's awesome.
Though just like every other game it still could be a game that isn't for you and you don't like it but it's definitely worth a try.
