And there were people who said Skullface's voice acting was amazing, I guess it was entirely based on the Elegia playing in the background while he gives his monologue. You could give a monologue on crap and it'd sound amazing with that music in the background, it's incredibly awkward and disjointed in the game because of no reaction from Venom and that stupid idle animation where Venom just looks everywhere while skullface talks...and then they stare.

I will say this though, his conversation with Zero in the truth tapes was kind of ok.

To be honest, I think this highlights the biggest difference between Big Boss and Solid Snake. Big Boss eventually bought into his own hype by thinking that someone had to carry the torch of the legend of Big Boss, even despite all the assistance/help/convenience he got in the process. Alternatively, Solid acknowledges that he has gotten this far due to a combination of luck and skill, never buys into the legend, and merely tries to do what he can even up to MGS4.



I love how Skull Face gets literally carried away by his own soldiers mid-sentence in that scene. Like, it is so unintentionally hilarious.

This is why I like Solid.
His line "I'm no hero, never was, never will be. I'm just an old killer hired to do some wetwork" is so perfect and say what you will about Hayter in MGS4 but he sold that line.

If anything this game made me respect Solid that much more because he knows who he is and tries to do good by it without giving into the stories about him being the legendary Solid Snake.

BB feels the need to carry on history/legends because of what happened to The Boss (erased from history). SS doesn't buy into these ideas because they're the reason everything is so fucked up for him.

Solid Snake has alway been my fave and he's underused. But I see him as the face of Metal Gear Solid. His codename is even in it. He had personality. I was looking forward to his return in MGS4, to deal with what started in 2. But where he was largely cockblocked in 2, he was an old fuck in 4. Its really too bad.

BB in MGS3 was very oblivious, just a Soldier. He's then used in PW, PO (2 handheld games, one not even full canon) and in Ground Zeroes. Thats it.

MGS1 Snake and Tanker Episode Snake are the best protagonists in the franchise, imo.

I like how MGS2 snake is this badass we see from another perspective, you can see he has his head in the right place.
I do wish we had one more game with solid as the main playable protagonist though rather than the two we had, but he had a good send off perhaps the best of any other character in the series.

He's a TV actor and video game voice artist... his biggest roll was Skull Face, but he was in an episode of 24.
