Nope I'm right there with you. I sort of enjoyed IX and X, but Final Fantasy for me really is about the first six games. FFVII just took the series in a direction that I really struggle to care about

ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are not good games. One is a glorified and prolonged escort mission with poor combat and mediocre puzzles, the other is a series of potentially interesting but ultimately meandering boss fights strung together by a loose excuse for a plot. Both get an underserved pass from people because they were exceptionally gorgeous games and that seems to be anyone ever wants to talk about when it comes to them.
Final Fantasy IX is one of the worst games in the series.
Fallout 3 is the best game in the series, and I say this having grown up with the first two. Fallout 2's still a close second, but Fallout 3 is better than New Vegas in most ways. NV having iron sights aiming gives it an edge, though.

So I totally disagree with basically 100% of your GTA opinions, but hey whatever, game opinions man.
But this attitude about the default controls is simply insane. The world didn't give us whacking great big controls with shit-tons of buttons and dual analog sticks and analog triggers and stuff so you have to be held prisoner by default settings.
Remap the controls, what's wrong with that? Talking of the developers 'intentions', if they added control options, then they intended for you to remap the controls if you want and not be a weirdo about it.
Honestly if I didn't remap controls I'd have literally never enjoyed a PC port in my entire life. Remapping controls can turn a shit experience into a tolerable one, or even a great one. Not doing it is incredibly odd; you're just frustrating yourself for no reason.

I loved both games in spite of this and took the sneaky pacifist routes for the challenge. But, making it a viable solution is different than making it the plot's preferred solution for a beneficial conclusion.
Developers, can we stop moralizing while simultaneously placing emphasis on gameplay mechanics on what will lead to the bad choices? You can totally make taking the "low road" dirty and easier than taking the high road, but... don't spend a lion share of the gameplay's features and tools on the "badwrong" moral choice.

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
I don't really think any of the souls games have particularly great OSTs. In fact, I can't even remember any of the boss music off the top of my head because it was so unmemorable.
Not to say that the OST is bad in any of them, though. Though, it's weird that From does absolutely top-notch OSTs in Armored Core but still manages to have such an average OST in the souls games.

I think a lot of it applies when you put it in context. All story was told in an interactable format where control wasn't ripped from you and it has a revolutionary physics engine. That beings said, coming to it at The Orange Box I put it down pretty fast.

Agreed. The only game I had to tear my self away from. I'n sure I've gone back in forth between WoW and TLOU as my favs.
When I started reading the Bloodborne lore stuff, it cemented it as the greatest pure horror game ever, for me. I remember at one time, years ago, when I looked up HP Lovecraft, I literally had to lay down for a few mins. Made me nauseous, truly terrifying stuff.
I say pure horror, because I think TLOU is drama horror, like The Walking Dead.
Mankind Divided is at least attempting to make a non lethal run through as exciting as a lethal one. So they have learned.

I got over it and was able to beat it back when I first played it, but I always stop there whenever I try to replay it. It's always been a momentum killer for me.
It doesn't help that I played Chrono Trigger before it. FFVI felt like a step backwards in many areas.
Do you think this is more of a history thing, though?
South Park: Stick of Truth and Pillars of Eternity felt incredibly polished to me. Haven't played Wasteland 2, though.

I am totally okay if they place equal emphasis and offer exciting gameplay for the non lethal approach. It's refreshing to read that they have learned.
In the past, non lethal just meant tranq darts or chokeholds compared to the cinematic death scenes and dozens of innovative lethal weapons.
As much as I love PoE I've had multiple problems with it. And I'm annoyed that they are paying more attention to balancing incredibly dumb things ("oh this ring shouldn't give +10 deflection, it should be +9!") instead of fixing actual problems of the game. At least the wolf companion of the ranger is properly designed now after five months of not giving a fuck, thank God.
Wasteland 2 did feel polished to me. And the few things I encountered I emailed them to inXile and were fixed on the next patch. Can't say the same about PoE.
Here's one that I have that's becoming really apparent the more I read Ace Attorney threads,
Shu Takumi is a really overrated director and he's not the reason the Ace Attorney games were good. The Investigations games were all really good despite flaws, and Dual Destinies is tied for being the best in the series. Meanwhile, Layton vs. AA was pretty bad, and Ghost Trick was good but worse than every AA game (aside from PLvPWAA).
Also Investigations 2 is the worst game the non-Takumi team worked on, though it's still solid.

I won't go parading that Chrono Trigger is better (though it subejectivey is) but it certainly does excel in pacing. Chrono Trigger does what few JRPGs can, it actually holds your attention.

It's unbelievably sad how people associate PS4's power advantage to why it's a great console. I see Twitter posts like "PS4 at 1080p has this many pixels while Xbox at 900p is this many pixels and this is the difference in pixel count so PS4 is a great console". It's so unfortunate that people completely miss that it has great indies, unprecedented social network sharing features, a simple to use and user friendly OS, and some other little features here and there that competing consoles don't have at this point.
I think both Xbox One and PS4 are equally amazing, and people need to stop riding the "40% more GPU power" and "power of the cloud" dick and enjoy the consoles for the amazing gaming systems they are with equally compelling libraries.
When there are games like Infamous, Sunset Overdrive, Bloodborne, Halo 5, Driveclub, Forza, Uncharted, and Quantum Break on both systems, it seems silly to be a blind fanboy who has to downplay everything the competing console does. I see a lot of that happening in threads around here and it's unfortunate that instead of celebrating amazing games people choose to shit up threads with their misplaced bias.

Not nearly all people who make gameplay videos with commentaries on Youtube cater to that audience, though. The most famous ones, like Pewdiepie, mark-something etc clearly do, but there are legitimately fun LPers to watch too. Maybe times have changed for those people too, but they didn't start out with money in their mind, since most of the good ones come from SA.

Turns out, PC gaming isn't THAT much different from our current gen consoles. This is even more apparent with the long list of titles that lack in the performance department (batman arkham, toukiden) or just downright look like ps3 games (one piece, dynasty warriors).
Before I had built my first PC gaming rig this year, I thought I was going to be blown away. Not the case. I'm sitting here looking at my games and going... "Really? This is 'master race'?"
The only thing I like about my new rig is that it gets higher frames on older titles like vanquish, bayonetta, and red dead redemption. Without mods, the games look the same except for a few lights (wow, it is fucking nothing) like in the newly released mgsvtpp. It is still hilarious how a ps4 can keep up with PC the way it does.

I sorta agree. A female Link would attract more weirdo waifu lovers than actually improve the extremely poor treatment female characters get in video games. If anything I would prefer Nintendo to make new IP(s) with well developed female protagonist(s). Though I honestly can't think of one major female character from Nintendo titles that isn't poorly developed in a number of ways, so I am not sure if they can actually create new strong female characters.

The 3D zelda games are bland, boring and have no depth of gameplay, and all take place in the most generic of childrens fantasy settings. I don't understand why they're revered so much. (Majora's Mask was ok I guess).
